  • Costco has a nice chocolate vegan protein powder. Like others have noted I don’t drink it lose weight but to give a good bunch of protein, and it’s pretty convenient to make and mix and drink on the drive to work. I add a couple teaspoons of PB2 to give it a Reese’s type flavor - chocolate with peanut butter.
  • Ran my fastest treadmill 5k yesterday - 26:09! Very proud of that. It’s amazing how as you lose weight you move faster, who’d have thunk it
  • Squats, chest and back, jump rope about 50 mins in my lunch break, and about to head out now to the Y for an hour and a half of water polo scrimmage.
  • Started at 367 In Jan 2016 Lowest was 225 in January 2017 Was back up to about 270 this past summer Weighed in at 250.4 on Friday (before my family got together for Christmas and I ate and ate to my hearts content). I would say three years in I haven’t made any maintenance changes because I haven’t reached my goal weight -…
  • Thanks for your insights and information. I’m always willing to be educated. Like I said, I couldn’t really back up my points with anything scientific, more of a gut instinct based on my own experience. I also know precisely what I’ve been through in losing 140 lbs over the last theee through a steady combination eating at…
  • Kinda surprised by some of the responses here. Weight training is a killer calorie burner because studies have shown that a lifting session will keep burning calories loooong after the workout is over while cardio essentially stops once your heart rate is normalized. The other day I had a pretty intense lift sessions which…
  • I got myself up before 6am to go on a run before work because I won’t be able to this weekend. Nice little 3 miler all at sub 10min/mile. And I wasn’t feeling as gassed as I would have even just two weeks ago. Can feel my hard work paying off as I can continue to increase my distance when I have the time or the speed when…
  • 1) get to 220 lbs by end of 2019 (253 this morning) 2) participate in a 10K race 3) participate in a sprint triathlon race 4) 2 million+ steps 5) support my wife in every way possible with our first baby coming in February.
  • This week included Sunday: 2 hours water polo at the Y Monday: lifting/cardio Tuesday: lifting, then after work went to a yoga class for the first time ever Wednesday: lifting/cardio Thursday: lifting/spin class after work Friday: I guess today will be a rest and recover day. Got plans with the wifey this evening/weekend.…
  • Ha! No. It’s about a 115 lb difference. I went from about 370 to 230 from 2016 to 2017, but since then went from about 230 to 270 from 2017 to 2018, now down another 20-25 lbs since this summer.
  • I landed a new job in May and had to get a new suit for the occasional client meeting I would be attending. I haven’t had to wear it for maybe three months though, and after losing about 25 lbs I tried on the jacket because I have a client meeting tomorrow and it was a little - baggy. So that’s nice, but I wish I’d lost…
  • I love weighing myself after a run. Typically 2-3 lbs less after a 3-5 miler. I’ve tested it numerous times by weighing myself before the run and after. 3 miles is about 2 lbs, 5 miles is close to 3 lbs. But I do my morning runs first thing and don’t really drink much water during the run and always use the bathroom before…
  • I have the same problem. It confuses me. So the simplest solution for me is to just track my workouts with my activity tracker, sync those calories burned and then delete the step counter calories. I don’t understand how I could eat say 1800 calories on a 1900 goal and burn another 500 in a workout and then it has me in…
  • After several challenging days of lifting and running I’m taking it easy on my body and will be hitting the pool after work. Probably about 2500 yards, maybe 3000 if I’m feeling perky. They’re letting us out of the office at 2pm for thanksgiving so I can still get in a good swim while it’s nice outside (ps I love living in…
  • This isnt exactly a meal per se, but some good low cal snacks that I like to take with me to work are strong cheese (80cal and packs a punch), slices of salami (100cal per Oz), air popped popcorn (I like SmartPop White cheddar and a full serving is a lot and 130cal), salted pretzel sticks (role gold is 100cal per serving,…
  • I bought myself a new watch for every 25 lbs lost... and the big event is that my dad promised when I’m under the weight restrictions he’d pay for me and anyone else in the family who wants to join me to go skydiving, which is kind of a life long dream of mine. The caveat is I have to sustain it for an undefined period of…
  • An option I had through my work was telephonic health coaching - it was essentially an accountability partner that would check in with me every week for about 15 minutes, go over my goals and successes and challenges. It was useful but my company stopped offering that at some point. Also, at the beginning of my journey I…
  • I was sharing with my wife how I’m nervous about having two big tgiving meals this weekend (my family on thurs and hers on fri) because I’ve been working hard at losing about the last 6-8 weeks and I’m having success and don’t wanna fall back Into old habits. I will probably go on a long run each Thursday and Friday…
  • I was there once as well. I learned though, like many others have mentioned, the other people in the gym don’t have time to be looking around judging others. There all just doing their own thing as well. Also, I have been down the road of hiring a trainer to learn the basics but that was years ago and I’m thinking about…
  • 2016 was an amazing year as I lost nearly 140 lbs. But this life is a marathon and not a sprint, and I crushed that sprint, but in 2017 I got married and in 2018 I’ve got a new job and now a baby in the way and life has happeneds and I’ve backslid about 40 lbs. so the good news is that after juuuust nearly 3 years since I…
  • I started at 367. Got down to 225. Back to 266 so still under 100 and back to counting calories more regularly and hitting the gym regularly. Wanna be back under 250 by years end.
  • Lived in California my whole life but if we Calexit I might just have to immigrate back to the good ol' US of A
  • That sounds like too much math. I just set my calorie goals at however I'm feeling in that particular season of life, and also for accountability when I'm slacking. I've moved it around between 1200-2000. I don't consciously eat my exercise calorie back. 5'10" 30 year old male - I've lost over 140 lbs in a year that way.…
  • I add it to my chocolate protein shakes to give it that liquid Reese's taste. Heaven
  • I've recently got down from the 230s to the 220s. My mini goal is to get to 220 (maybe by end of Jan) and My plan then is to up my daily calorie goal from 1600 to 2000, and increase protein intake to help facilitate muscle growth and kick up my workout intensity a lil bit
  • I just had chipotle chicken tacos the last couple days: 1) Cast iron 2) coconut oil 3) diced chicken breast seasoned generously with salt, pepper, and chipotle spice rub 4) cook in hot oil for about 8-10 minutes (small dices cook faster). They tasted great! Served on a small sized soft flour tortilla. About 150 calories…
  • If it's the shopping that wears you down maybe look into Amazon Fresh. I don't use it but a close friend uses it exclusively, hasn't been grocery shopping in months. Orders over $40 have great delivery
  • You will get bored of/annoyed/fatigued by logging and tracking everyday - and when you do, you will stop losing weight. Weigh. Track. Log. Lose.
  • My brother and his wife brought their daughter home from China in June. Lily has been such a blessing to us all. I'm thrilled to be an uncle to this little girl who was once abandoned half a world away! Congrats to your family! Adoption is awesome!
