Okay, have to laugh at the edits turning my swear words into "kitten"! If you quote my post, you'll see the original words I used!

I'm hearing a lot of shame in this: ashamed to have gained weight back, ashamed to let someone see you weigh food, ashamed for not working out, ashamed of yourself period. The trouble is, shame is not all that helpful in actually changing behaviour. Instead, you just feel like *kitten*, and worse, that you are a *kitten*…

I actually would start with the strength training videos put out by Cathe Friedrich (www.cathe.com). She produces excellent weight training programs, and her videos are of excellent production quality. She also has superb form throughout her exercises.

I'm a weightlifter, and I lift heavy, not that Fitbit or MFP notices.

Really? So, these are all discussions meant to get you to make personal comments about other members? And people encourage this? I guess I still don't understand...

To each his own.
-
But what does it actually MEAN?
-
Well, a pound of anything is unlikely to be healthy in one meal.
-
This was a historical quote. At the time I absolutely was burning that much a day in excercise and it wasn't through walking.
-
That's definitely my trajectory as well - I've been lifting and running for 10 years, but I started out not even knowing the difference between a stretch and a strength exercise. Someone gave me a light resistance band as a gift, and all of a sudden, my world opened up.
-
I personally love both lifting heavy and running, but if I had to give one up, I'd give up the running - lifting heavy actually causes a cardio effect. I don't actually care if lifting makes me lose weight or not or if running makes me lose weight or not - I love them both and would do them regardless of weight loss. I…

I don't use them, mostly because I set my base calorie intake pretty high already - 2000 (trying to lose weight slowly) with the assumption that I will get lots of exercise within that base calorie rate. I have found in the past that when I give myself permission to eat more when I exercise more, I tend to over-value…

Any colour of carbs aren't the devil, but I will say that on the keto diet I am not hungry at all ever, while still in a calorie deficit. I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, so before starting the keto diet, my diet was primarily carbs and protein, and I was hungry ALL THE TIME! Seriously, two hours after breakfast (with eggs and…

I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian on the keto diet for the past six weeks or so, and it's going well. Not hungry anymore between meals - and can go a lot longer between meals than ever before (single biggest bonus for a busy woman). Energy levels (and blood sugar) stays constant throughout the day, and don't drop if it's been 8…

Issues I found with the study:* the macros are not what I would consider LCHF - too many carbs, not enough fat- and definitely not ketogenic * it's only an 8 week trial, which is way too short a time to have any meaningful results * very small sample size, with only 27 individuals in the study, of which only 24 completed…

On these last posts, I am now leaving the forum.

I have to admit that I am a little disturbed to be feeling so under attack by the most recent posters on this thread and am considering leaving the forum. I had assumed that this was a forum that was about helping people achieve their goals, not about getting people to eat the way they assume is correct. Certainly, if…

Thank you so much!
-
Thank you again, everyone, but I was just looking for ideas as to different recipes and food that would fit within my dietary restrictions - I am not looking to change my dietary restrictions at the current time.
-
This is the keto diet. I didn't make it up, I just follow it!
-
No, I mean 20 total. There are differing opinions as to whether net carbs or total carbs should be used as a measure - I use total carbs.
-
Thank you, but this is very high in carbs and sugar for my diet.
-
Unfortunately, hummus is high in carbs, and I'm trying to limit protein to a moderate intake.
-
I'm afraid so many of the suggestions given, while VERY appreciated, will leave me having significantly more carbs than I have now. I am on a very low carb keto diet, aiming for a max of 20 total carbs per day, so nuts, vegetables, etc., are pretty much out except for treats.
-
I've been a vegetarian for 30 years, so I won't be changing at this point in my life! I find that explaining the reasons why I became a vegetarian is a lightning rod for controversy, so I'd rather not explain.

Which is true with any kind of coping mechanism that gets out of hand, right? Alcoholism, bulimia, binge eating disorder, drug addiction, problem gambling...they are all just coping mechanisms that get out of hand. Then, of course, we have to deal with both the original trauma or problem that caused us to need the coping…

I've been thinking about how you phrased this "eating disorder was [...] driving me nuts"; it's a really lovely way of putting it - no shame attached. You've managed to put it in its place in your life: it's not you, it's something that's annoying you that you have to deal with. That says to me that you're actually well on…

Thanks!

Thanks, Claire!
