"Dr." Phil would be prosecuted where I live for his *kitten* use of the doctor title. He and Dr. Oz have a tremendous number of harmful statements to apologize for.
-
Absolutely - didn't mean to single you out. As I get older, I'm becoming much more vocal about gender equality, so tend to question such language choices. Not because I don't think someone is a feminist or believes in gender inequality, but to just ensure that they are brought to attention.

So to speak!

Hon, I had an eating disorder for 20 years, and kicked it 10 years ago, so please take my comments as being from a caring person who has been there and lived through it. Might I suggest getting off this forum, and others like it? As helpful as the members here are, it is very easy to become obsessed with food and food…

Seriously? I can't even post the proper link? Okay, the word starts with a "B" and rhymes with "itches"!

Huh! Turns out I can't give the title of the book because of a swear word. Okay, follow this link instead: https://www.amazon.ca/Moody-*kitten*-Taking-Missing-Having/dp/1594205809

I'm in perimenopause, so I have completely given up on expecting anything like a regular cycle. An excellent book to read is Moody *kitten*: The Truth About the Drugs You're Taking, The Sleep You're Missing, The Sex You're Not Having, and What's Really Making You Crazy by Julie Holland, MD. I've given that book to a ton of…

I wish that was the case for me! My tolerance hasn't decreased at all! At least, I don't think it has, and I haven't walked off the balcony (yet)...

Just a lacto-ovo vegetarian point of view, from someone who loves Indian (and Thai, and Greek...) food, this is what I've found. The primary protein in vegetarian Indian food is paneer. The paneer in the vegetarian dishes does have carbs, so saag paneer and many of the other paneer dishes will have some carbs, so you may…

I just want to flag that healthy eating for the family is both parents' job, not just the job of the ones with the genitals on the inside of her body. If the moms are too busy at work to cook proper meals, it's time for the dads to step up, and vice versa.
-
That's truly wonderful to hear. I'm so glad you're doing well. Nine years from now, I hope you'll write your own ten year anniversary post.

Not so easy to recognize an eating disorder for what it is - and even harder to get someone in a program fast. Good job to your friends!

Thanks, Gale.
-
Thank you. It was major at the time, now it's just part of who I was and who I've become.
-
Thank you. It wasn't courageous; just necessary.

My scale's been the same for 2 weeks now, and I'm still a newbie at keto. However, my body fat's down 1.5% so I figure something's happening (even though I KNOW the body fat percentage on my lying liar scale is the biggest liar of all, and completely dependent on hydration levels.)

Have you tried dancing? I also love rowing, and have back and knee issues. Straight up weight lifting, with proper form and being very careful, is excellent exercise. If you stick to machine weights (which honestly, are not quite as effective from an actual strength-building and functional fitness point of view) you can be…

Which goal are you referring to?

I am not losing weight at all on my diet now and I'm not sure why. I'm definitely in a calorie deficit and definitely back in ketosis. I feel good, though, and there are other things that are working for me outside of scale numbers so I'll stick with it until I have to have cauliflower or I'll kill someone.
-
This concerns me, because I have always had awesome numbers on every lab test there is. I'm worried that that will change on this diet. My test results can't really get better than they were, so if they change, they'd have to change for the worse. It's a pretty big leap of faith for me.

Nah, it was all cheese pretty much yesterday. I have discovered the wonders of Juusto baked cheese and it's crazy good when fried up.

Isn't 950 calories a day dangerously low?
-
2g total carbs today! I'm getting the hang of this thing!
-
Ah. I can truly say I would never ever have guessed that acronym on my own.
-
What the heck is an "NSV"?
-
Wow, this r Wow, this really should be a giant warning sign somewhere. Hormonal changes like that are really problematic, and not always minor inconveniences.
-
I sincerely hope that it is a low-carb issue, because if it isn't, that's one helluva rough ride, and I hope that you are medically okay. Make sure to keep your iron levels up.
-
I find it the other way - I have to try really hard to keep the protein levels lower and the fat levels higher. Most of my sources of fat are good sources of protein too, so that's the macro situation I have to keep most in mind.

So I'm hearing two different things: alcohol breaks down into ketones easily, and alcohol temporarily stops ketosis. Are these diametric opposites, or are they both true? I think I need more nuanced information as to what's going on. By the way, we are only talking about 2 jiggers of vodka, not slamming back a mickey.

Well, as I mentioned, it's a lot of eggs and cheese and butter. I also make a rather fantastic dip of very high fat sour cream, mayo and high fat plain greek yogurt mixed with salt and spices that goes really well with eggs, and that ups my fat significantly. I have a spring mix or spinach salad every couple of days, with…
