This has potential to be a great idea. I always like the idea of putting some/more intelligence into eating instead of eating willy nilly and counting calories (mind you). I guess it's a different type of work/challenge. What's your idea of "mindful eating"? To me, it's a bit of timing, different foods, to start.

Got me curious so I looked up the info. From wiki: Koalas typically inhabit open eucalypt woodlands, and the leaves of these trees make up most of their diet. Because this eucalypt diet has limited nutritional and caloric content, koalas are largely sedentary and sleep up to 20 hours a day. I suppose if we slept 83% of our…

I bet that takes a form of obsession (with fitness), patience and a ton of free time. I walk 3 rounds around my workplace parking lot and it completes 10k. I don't feel tired but feel time standing still. The difficulty with alot of exercises isn't in the physical act itself. Sometimes the physical "exhaustion" can even be…

10K steps is fitter than 9K which is fitter than 5k...and so on. Any moving is better than none and there's not one definition of "fit" for everyone. I would kill for my wife to do 10K step daily. If she did that she would be fitter than 80% of people I know. I don't care for walking. I can walk all day and it doesn't seem…

jicama and cucumber.

I eat pizza, rice-base products (noodle and such) breads and all sorts of rices and it's hella hard to lose weight. I have had much easier time with fresh salads and grilled chicken, pork. But everything is my choice :) It's up to you. There is hard way and there's easy way. Pick your poison.

I know a few of those people and the thing they have going for them is that they don't love foods as much as the overweight. To give you an idea, just look at kids. Alot of kids have to be pressed by their parents to eat, otherwise they would be very frail.

I think when you are truly depressed, making a plan or structuring anything is going to be difficult. Most of the time you'd feel low energy and low motivated. If you think your eating is directly connected to depression then I suppose get your depression treated. However, often time eating is just an excuse for…

I know what you are saying. This "cico" debate always highlights two major mindsets. One that argues the technicality of CICO, which isn't wrong, and the other that focuses on the whole picture/approach and practicality of a complete diet approach. If the OP indeed only talked about the underlining principle of cico, which…

We can't blame tmoneyag99 ! The OP wrote a novel, followed by several pages of responses. Are you saying much ado about nothing? Which I agree btw. :)
-
Therein lies the rub! A lot of time when something is NOT easy, so not easy that it becomes impractical. So impractical that it renders the thing moot, inapplicable. If you want simple, why even go to CICO. Why not just eat less, move more? Your marathon analogy is apt. How many morbidly obese people see marathon as an…

I logged for 8 weeks, lost 10-15 lbs, then stopped and continued to lose another 10 lbs or so. I just eat normal "portions"-- whatever that means with a particular food, neither too little nor too much. On good meals I eat more and on non essential meals I eat less. Weigh in a couple times a week, make slight adjustments.…

Switch "obesity" with "poverty" and the argument is still the same, but as you can see there's still a large group that blames poverty on lazy and dumb.

I don't think there's one correct answer for all. For me I realize I have to do more, even at my expense, to get my family on board. I keep yapping to my wife on giving our daughter good, healthy foods and for us also. No one likes walking exercise and I don't need to do more for myself but I still have to drag everyone…

I got stressed out doing this. My stupid scale went off after a short wait time so I felt pressure to do everything fast.

It's safe to say that you can eat as much broccoli, celery, cucumber as you like and never worry about becoming obese.
-
I'm against always trying to find, make foods appetizing. You're trying to reduce your eating and inducing it through good foods are two very opposing ideas. I'm not surprised if you struggle. My idea for food is... have two categories. Good, favorite foods which you can enjoy at the right time and place; and plain, boring…

A couple times a week only after the days I spend effort to lose. I monitor my wt on a weekly basis so obviously wt is allowed to go up and down. It's pointless for me to weigh to know I gain. Only important to weigh to know if my effort is on track. Minimal work.

This is where MFP has been most helpful for me.

Thank you. I know when I lose around 5 lbs over 24 hrs, I tend to immediately regain a couple lbs the next day. Nevertheless, any loss makes me happy :) I try not to overthink this thing.
-
You missed my point. I don't care to distinguish that 7 lbs loss as fat or what. A 7 lbs loss is a 7 lbs loss. That water or whatnot has always been part of you but now gone. My question is... was it ever crucial? I'm more than 20 lbs lighter than my initial wt. If I weigh myself 3, 4 lbs lighter by weekend, does that I…

I'm genuinely curious.. So, at the weight 7 pound lighter, he doesn't need water anymore? At what point will it become not about water anymore but real weight loss?

This. Just about anything I can find outside of home is better than packaged frozen meals. Foods from supermarket deli are unarguably better; fast foods are tastier, freshier. Can foods are at least cheaper.

You are not crazy. I'm against eating daily at a fix number. We're not a pet nor can we have or measure a precise calorie output. It's very helpful that you eat according to your energy spending (more or less) which you seem to have done.
-
It doesn't even have to be a meal. In certain time I need to eat, I just eat a few sugar crackers + a black tea. Good for many hours. Is that even a meal? I like what the second poster said: Whats important is to eat when your hungry, and NOT eating when youre not hungry. And being empty stomach or a bit hungry-like while…

Wow...are people actually able to enjoy that donut cheeseburge? That would take a sophisticated (bizarre) palate. This remind me of George Coztanza trying to simultaneously enjoy sex and food.

Hey OP, I'm having the same problem. From your description my problem seems like exactly like yours! I think I'm pushing for the lower weight that my body doesn't agree with. It's only 5 lbs from here, but I'm surprised that there's been more problems than it's worth. Lack of sleep and very light sleep when it happens is a…

If you see it as cheat meals/days, you're not ready and it'll be a disaster. On the other hands, 2-3 days a week I eat freely and it's not an issue. Couple things you should know: they are all accounted and I no longer have the disordered eating behavior found with obese people.

Very good observations there, Ala. No surprise that they flies over some people's head. Anytime there are more options and flexibility to have, it's a good thing!

LOL. Read like a very effective warning to guys. I only went with "dangerous" just to be inclusive. But I agree with the sentiment.
