Sorry, I thought you already had it set in your mind to just do 1200, 1500, 1800.

Intermittent fasting can be used as a tool to help maintain that calorie deficit.

Also, don't be a slave to the "complete this entry" button in your diary and the ensuing message. Just stay within the calorie goal you wish for each day.

I second this. Classical stretch is what got me out of being stiff and sedentary. It airs on PBS a couple times per week in my area.
-
Is it the same if you walk for a good 15-20 minutes? Get your body really warmed up. When I went to physical therapy, no stretching was done before I either walked on the treadmill or rode the exercise bike for 20 minutes. ETA: Not saying stretching won't hurt at all if you warm up, but I think it will help.…

Are your muscles warmed up before you stretch them?

Cottage cheese, egg, oat pancakes with a bit of strawberry preserves.

As others have said, you cannot choose where your weight comes off. If you rigorously maintain a calorie deficit, you will lose fat. Problem is, you WILL also lose muscle. This is why eating sufficient protein and doing some strength training are so important -- they help you hold on to that muscle that you already have.

The stress response is supposed to work short-term to get us out of danger. Long-term unhappiness, stress, negative thinking results in a long-term stress response, which is definitely not good. Just happened upon a TED talk that talks about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drv3BP0Fdi8

Just popping back in to share an article I just read about the 'viral' success of Instant Pot: http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2017/01/18/509675621/not-just-a-crock-the-viral-word-of-mouth-success-of-instant-pot

I never had any issues cooking eggs, but in the IP, you don't have to watch it as you do on the stovetop and wait until the water boils and/or set a timer. You just turn on the pot and walk away. It's just that extra little bit of convenience that makes me prefer using the IP instead of boiling a pot of water. It's still…

Yea, there are some things that it just doesn't make sense to use it for. But others, it's a no-brainer! My 3 favorites so far: Fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs in one hour. One. Hour. Frozen chicken breasts turned into tender shredded salsa chicken within 30 minutes. YOGURT! Made my second batch today. So good. Full fat,…

That is not that high. Protein helps most people with satiety and helps spare muscle loss that goes along with eating at a deficit.

It will change daily based on what you eat and how much you burn. Are you logging exercise? I wouldn't put too much stock into that message -- everything is an estimate. But think of it this way... your calorie goal is set to a certain number of calories below your daily energy needs (TDEE). Eat at TDEE to maintain, eat…

Morning heel pain is a classic symptom of plantar fasciitis. Of course, a doctor's visit is appropriate, but it won't hurt to try some of the stretching that helps with PF. You need to do a LOT of stretching of your calves and achilles every day, and stretch and manipulate the plantar fascia with your hands every morning.…

This is my biggest issue with my dog. I usually have to take 2 separate walks -- one purposeful brisk walk sans dog and then one foot-dragging, poop picking up, stop and sniff everything stroll. But that's just the way my dog is -- all dogs are different!

Odor is caused by the bacteria on your skin. Glad you were able to change the bacteria population to a less stinky one. Your diet could have had something to do with that. As for alkaline diets, the pH for dummies infographic is not helpful to any discussion. Nor is saying that if your bodily pH changes you are dead. It is…

Exercise to keep your muscles stimulated so you don't lose them. Exercise to burn more calories and lose weight faster. Exercise for your health. Yea, I'd say there is a point to exercising.

I cook oats in Fairlife milk (it is filtered and is a bit higher in protein than other brands), add protein powder until it reaches my protein goal, and then a cupful of blueberries, some chia seeds, and maybe a few nuts. Protein and fiber are what works to keep me satiated and I prioritize protein when assembling every…

I started typing this earlier and got distracted. I hope you are still around under a new username, OP Moby_Dick. I believe that the protein discussion is an important one to have. The RDA for protein is the bare minimum for a healthy young person who is not eating in a deficit. The minimum to avoid getting sick.…

When I try to be more aware and eat slowly and mindfully, I am mostly aware of wanting to eat faster.

I agree that it is not genetic. I see more a strong habitual association between food and comfort and social relationships. Reminds me of when I quit smoking. Oh, and drinking too. While it was really difficult to participate in certain activities without smoking when I quit (like going to a bar with friends -- I just…

If you look at the quoted section above, you will see that they were served up measured meals, but they were allowed to add fruits and vegetables to make sure they met their energy and macro requirements.

I just finished the 4th week of Strong Curves (bodyweight/at home). Since starting, I've been eating more calories (between 1500 and 1700 instead of 1200-1300), have lost about 1/2" everywhere, have lost a couple of lbs, and have gotten noticeably stronger each week. I am checking myself out in the mirror and sometimes…
