  • It shouldn't in itself if you are staying within your daily calorie goals - that's the only time I've had an issue with it. I also try not to use it in shakes since they don't keep me full for long and I end up eating more anyway. I am wary of all the chemical ingredients in most brands - so when I do use it (lately in…
  • Do you mean protein powders and other supplements? I make an effort to eat all whole foods (not powders or supplements) with as little processing as I can manage (unless I bake it myself - only with my one ingredient protein powder). Sometimes this works out, sometimes it doesn't. This isn't a judgment on anyone who gets…
  • I do a few things - usually i try a really flavorful herbal tea - but i can't drink that after 9pm or I have to get up to pee (like others have said)... air popped popcorn is great too, something like 3 cups popped for 35 calories so a GREAT filler for low cals... distraction helps too, read or take a bath... i usually…
  • Hi! My meals are all usually in the 300-450 range. Every other week I'll look up some recipes for meals and prep stuff on Sunday for the next week to keep it interesting. For example - my foods for this week will be: Breakfast: protein oatmeal muffins [loosely based off this recipe…
  • I prefer steel cut oatmeal - and I usually have a serving and a half for 225 calories in the morning. You could also add a hard boiled egg for 70 calories. But it's great as a snack instead of breakfast so do what's best for you! I'm actually going to try making baked oatmeal with some protein powder this week :)
  • this morning i had 2 organic eggs cooked in a little butter and a trader joe's everything bagel slim with reduced fat whipped cream cheese and a sprinkle of chopped scallions. yummy! I usually alternate between a veggie omelette (luckily my work has a great cafeteria I can get one from in the mornings) or steel cut oatmeal…
  • Sometimes at night when I'm eyeing ice cream or chocolate around the house, I'll spend some time on the success stories board in the MFP community - usually works for me :) Once in a while I'll also do some math and figure OK if I lose 3-4 lbs a month in 5 months I'll weigh... that usually keeps me excited too
  • I'd first say to make a more immediate goal - say your first 10 lbs in 6 weeks to keep you motivated. Drink plenty of water and eat plenty of veggies whenever you can. For motivation sometimes I like to read the posts in the success story message board section of the MFP community. For me, if I go to bed a LITTLE hungry, I…
  • What about turkey, beef, or chicken chili? I also like to make a casserole with tons of veggies some ground turkey or chicken with tomatoes and maybe some ricotta cheese - that is always delicious to me (I'm Italian and it tastes remotely like italian food :)) - this week for instance I made a big ground turkey kale…
  • I still go at least once a week! I get half the amount of brown rice, veggies, chicken, salsa, corn, and lettuce. Tastes sooooo good
  • I use naked whey. It has 1 ingredient - whey protein. 100% grass fed, gmo free, soy free...I love it!! It smells a little like yogurt and doesn't have a lot of taste. It wasn't until I started using it that I realized how MUCH sweetener is in every other powder. This is so great. Enjoy! I got mine on Amazon. NAKED WHEY -…
  • Air pop some popcorn kernels with some salt (or cinnamon for a sweeter twist). Serving size is something like 3 cups popped for 30 cal. Herbal tea works for me and water. Try to down a whole bottle of water wait 10 minutes and if the craving is still there. Then try some of the low calorie snack suggestions..
  • Ok thanks for the sanity check everyone :)
  • I've found I really like food spicier to make up for less fat - I like to slice fresh jalapeños and soak them in white vinegar and throw on like literally everything lol. I agree with fresh herbs adding lots of flavor too... Also on days where steamed broccoli makes me want to cry I like to make a quick Italian style…
  • It's only about 5 - I don't log it unless I add something to it. I do love them! :)
  • I struggle with this too - I've started ensuring at least dinner on Friday is tracked and under goal so at least that's another whole day for the win. I am beginning to work on controlling breakfast and/or lunch Saturday and Sunday too, every little bit counts! Make small changes you can live with - good luck!
  • I'm curious as well - would perhaps taking an epsom salt bath to ease sore muscles and/or foam rolling them out help release the retained water sooner? I'm waiting for recent low back pain to subside so I can get to the gym to begin weight lifting so I'm sure I will have this question too! :)
  • Seltzer with lots of lime or lemon, a few really good olives (the intense flavor seems to help), I've also started having a variety of herbal teas at night to replace a glass of wine. I also have a piece of super (super) dark chocolate with less than a gram of sugar per piece at night if things get crazy. Sometimes taking…
  • I'm about 10 pounds into my journey but I stumbled across a pair of work pants hidden away this weekend that are a size smaller than I've been wearing (funny how clothes that stop fitting just somehow migrate to the bottom of piles/back of closets almost without making the decision to do so, isn't it?) - and they fit!…
  • Add in 5 minutes of foam rolling prior to stretching if you really want the most impact! I find when I roll out first (particularly glutes and IT band) I get a much deeper stretch with more relief. :) happy stretching!
  • A few of my friends experience vertigo while doing yoga (particularly downward dog) - if you're practicing on your own, cut out any poses that are upside down (down dog, forward bend) - see if it alleviates the problem.
  • Hi! I'm from Hoboken :) how about you?
