  • I'm in my 14th week of keto. It's been wonderful for controlling migraines--that was an issue for me--and I find it easier to restrict calories because, let's face it, eggs, bacon, steak, cheese...these are filling foods! I miss fruit, though, and having to restrict vegetables seems kinda weird. The hard part for me was…
  • Good Morning, Ladies! Today makes 12 weeks on MFP, for me. I could regale you with my progress stats, which aren't too shabby, but I actually think something more important is happening here, which is that, after traumatic injury, two surgeries, divorce, four more surgeries, failure to control my weight, and lots of…
  • The thing is, with my head in line, I have no problem with my feet being too low in the water (um, finally...I did work on that for a while)... It's only when my head is up out of the water, that I cannot for the life of me get my feet near the surface. So that's why she's having me do this. *sigh
  • The evilest :)
  • I love this. Larisa
  • My instructor wants me to practice with the dreaded kickboard, learning to keep my head out of the water *and* my feet high. I figure I probably have weakness in hip and low back extension, from the surgeries, so I did it. I didn't, y'know, like it, but I think I actually made progress.
  • Good for you; breaking it down into goals that are easier to handle is a sound strategy. I just weathered what would have been my 20th anniversary. I was unprepared for how hard that was. Lesson learned. Virtual hugs to you! Larisa in Seattle
  • I LOVE kayaking. Hmm I need to find another kayaker/swimmer and we can trade off.
  • That was kind of you...and lucky for him. I'm fluent in Mandarin, having spoken it every day for some eight years...but I didn't swim yet, then, so I know none of those terms, beyond the actual word for swimming. oops. I should look them up...
  • Class today was all about side breathing. :)
  • Well, thank you! I don't know about swimming like fishgutzy, but I am well nigh indomitable.
  • Swim class today. Both biceps tendons/rotator cuff tendons hurt; it's not the swimming, as I've been focused on kicking for a good couple weeks now. I've been tweaking how I sleep. hmmm.
  • Thanks, DJ; I love this! Larisa
  • OMG that's awfull! :heartbreak: I wish you speedy healing and minimum pain.
  • That is awesome; congratulations! :star: :sunglasses:
  • Hi Ladies! I just hafta share, I had the best swim ever, today...I swam and swam and swam. I've progressed to where a good swim really does fill the hole left by my Lost Love of walking. :heartbreak:
  • I swam and swam. Hooray! so much progress. Except crawl. I was taught bilateral breathing from the get-go, and it was pretty much natural, until today. Today, every time I rolled left, my face was too low...but I swam through it*, and after about 35 minutes, it gradually corrected itself. I also did dolphin kick…
  • I love that term; I learned it here. I'm sooo close, myself... but stalled out... Well done, Dr Katie! :star:  Larisa
  • Hahah I wanted to elope, back in the day. My dad was completely for it. My mom was adamant against.
  • Hahah I made a Blazing Saddles reference? I haven't seen that since I was college age.
  • I'm trying to screw up the courage to go to the early morning lap swim; so far I've been sticking to the adult/senior swim where there's more accommodation for those of us just finding our way...but if I can make the 6am swim work, I could swim twice, some days...at least right now, while I'm underemployed...and I could…
  • I'll check that in the morning; thanks!
  • Fingers crossed for you! Have you taken and anti-inflammatory? Ginger tea, maybe? and don't be afraid to ice it. (hugs) Larisa in Seattle
  • Laps today, lost count of course, but hey I'm still a beginner. Some crawl stroke, some back stroke (roughly 10 laps each) and lots of kicking laps (all types). Neeed kicking endurance... I'm making lots of progress in getting my kicks to actually propel me, and in getting water in my mouth, not swallowing it, breathing…
  • I  this so hard. Wow, I didn't have explosiveness, but I did have significant GI difficulties, and by the time I found out I had celiac, I had been misdiagnosed with several forms of autoimmune arthritis, and was anemic, along with several vitamin deficiencies. It's rough stuff! And yes, regarding spinal…
  • Today's class was better. I worked on whip kicks, and endurance in crawl.
  • BTW thank you kind ladies who are offering to root for me in the national competition...but you have to pose in a bikini (even at our age), to win nationals. And I posed in leggings and a fitted shirt. I just didn't need to win, in that way. I have already won in the way that I cared about. And actually? you all…
