  • I try not to have cheat meals. I try and plan ahead of time and either save enough calories or make sure I hit the gym that same day. I usually will only have one indulgent meal per month, but all calories are account for accordingly.
  • No, because there are millions of people out there who work on their feet and still end up obese.
  • My breakfasts and dinners are almost always the same thing, so I go ahead and pre-log those then work my lunch and snacks around that. Lunch is my biggest meal of the day, so between breakfast and dinner, I usually have plenty leftover for lunch, a snack or two, and a glass of wine before bed.
  • It's only for paying members, which is a bummer for people who just wanted to hang around the boards for support. Fortunately, MFP boards are free and far more active :)
  • I lost weight on WW in my 20s, but at 35 I rejoined and ended up not losing anything. It made me feel really frustrated to be so limited in what I could eat on the new SmartPoints system. I would eat something that would be very low calorie, but due to how WW calculates their points, it would cost me 8 points out of a…
  • I broke a hammock. No, really, it was seriously the fattest fat girl thing that could possibly happen to me and it was not only humiliating, it was physically painful as well. My parents had a little mesh hammock hanging in their screened porch. I went to sit on it and the carabiner holding it up broke and I fell to the…
  • Long before I got serious about tracking I weighed more than 260lbs. I know this, because at 262 I stopped weighing myself and I can tell by the way my clothing fit that I had put on some more pounds. I had gotten so big and so out of shape that I couldn't even lift my legs high enough to slip my feet into my pants legs. I…
  • Yes. I typically pre-log breakfast and dinner and then work lunch and snacks around that.
  • I, personally, love Stevia so that is what I use in coffee and then use a lightly sweetened flavored almond milk creamer. If I didn't put the cream in my coffee, I'd use real sugar.
  • I don't consider housework exercise. Majorly intensive landscaping work, I do count. Things like vacuuming or dusting? I got fat doing that stuff regularly, so I don't count it. I also don't count a 30 minute walk if it's just a leisurely stroll. I consider it exercise if it gets my heart rate up for more than 20 minutes.
  • I wasn't a fan of the Zumba DVDs, but it was back when they first came on the scene. Perhaps they are better now. Is there a Zumba class nearby? I have found that actually going to a class is a lot of fun an very motivating.
  • The machines where I go ask you to input your weight and height and then you can also track your heart rate as you are working out. Since MFP's calories burned are just an estimate, and because the machines give a lower calories burned count, I go with the lower number just to err on the side of not overeating.
  • I've never experienced that. Could it be a hernia?
  • Vegan, checking in :)
  • It depends on my level of fitness. For starters, unless you're being really diligent about tracking your heart rate, the number of calories burned is an estimate. A lot of trackers tend to err on the side of more calories burned, so as others have stated, aim for eating back around 50% and see how you are doing. If I'm…
  • If it gives you 1450, eat 1450. I'm also a huge advocate against cheat "days", because one cheat day tends to snowball into a cheat weekend then a cheat week and before long you end up falling off the wagon entirely. It's better to enjoy a meal that is a bit indulgent for special occasions rather than have an entire day…
  • I rocked WW when PointsPlus debuted. Then they upped the PP values of a lot foods and did Simply Filling. That's when things got really hard for me, so I stopped doing it. When I'm honest about my food intake, MFP works all the time.
