He wants me off the metformin gradually, hence the change to regular metformin, changing the dosage as needed by self monitoring my glucose levels. No meds and good health/life is my ultimate goal. The appointment for CAC is with Emory University later this month. $150 gets you a package that includes CAC, Lipids, BP,…

Hi, Just got back from my doctor's. He has switched me to regular dosage of metformin, 2 500s twice a day in order to reduce my dependence on metformin gradually. He does not want to see me for another YEAR!!! Happy Happy, Joy Joy! As for my lipid profile, he agrees there is no necessity for lowering my LDL with statins at…

If it is my real friends, they understand, since my diet is working and I have been very vocal about it, especially since I have to shop for new clothing in lower sizes.

Nope, kids are grown.

I will put this on my to do list. I will also discuss with my doctor if he knows where I can get this done at low cost in the Atlanta area. (as well as the elusive LDL-P test) I want my dear hubby to get this as well.

I don't log my food since most everything is homemade. Simplified menu. 2 eggs, bacon or sausage for breakfast every day, Meat, fish (canned Sockeye or Sardines) or cheese for lunch (4 ounces), meat or fish for dinner, (six ounces). Included daily are fresh veggies, olives, butter, olive oil, coconut oil and nuts.

Thank you all. Just hope my doctor understands that not taking statins is my decision and not everyone can be "saved". I had to drop my endocrinologist since my insurance changed and my PCP (Internal Medicine) will now be overseeing my diabetes care and prescription for metformin and glucose strips. Hopefully, he is not…

So, since I am still losing weight, my Trigs are going to be high? One has to ask when do I stop losing weight? I am 2 pounds away from my goal of 145, which seemed insurmountable in June. How low should my goal be? Female, 5'8" and age 62. This new fangled BMI index flummoxes me as I grew up with weight charts.

A bit more history. Previous lipid numbers a year ago, were "normal" since I was on generic Lipitor. My A1C was 7.2 then and my weight one year ago this month was actually 180. My endocrinologist told me that Diabetes was a progressive disease and asked me how long I wanted to live! He then put me on Jardiance. On Father's…

Congrats!

In my opinion, only a quack would recommend surgery at 225 pounds. Keto on! You are doing fantastic!

We did not over stuff, but in the first half, we had clam dip and fried pork rinds. I drank wine and hubby drank low carb margaritas. I was rooting for the Falcons, did not understand that sudden death meant that Atlanta did not get the ball, so it pretty much came down to the last coin toss. Great game overall.

My family was in the restaurant business. I was taught to order over-easy in order to insure that I received real eggs in a restaurant. Shame on Huddle House for adulterating their eggs. By doing that, all it does is cut their food costs, expose people to allergens and wreck our diets.

Maybe your doctor meant milk? Milk is very high in carbs, especially skim. Real cheese, not American and other fake cheeses, are very low carb, high fat and supply calcium. Whipping cream for coffee is also a good idea.

Lost my gall bladder 20 years ago. I am convinced it was due to a Dr ordered very low fat diet that I was on trying to lower my cholesterol. I have had three phantom attacks since then. Started my lchf diet 6 months ago and consume quite a bit of olive oil, coconut oil, butter, cheese and fatty food. I have had zero…

April 2016: 178 lbs. CICO, no change in high glucose and an even higher A1C, 7.2 (1000 Metformin twice a day. Dr added Jardiance.) June 30th 2016: Started LCHF: 172 lbs, fasting glucose average: 145 (1000 metformin ER twice a day, stopped Jardiance almost immediately) Current Weight: 150.4 lbs, fasting glucose average: 95…

Due to lower stomach upset, our New Year's Eve dinner was delayed to New Years Day Dinner of Lobster with drawn butter and baked acorn squash. Simple and Yummy! Happy and healthy New Year to everyone!!

Soon it will be New Years and most of the temptations will have gone away. And diets will be on everyone's agenda. Be brave and strong until then. We are all there with you.

One must have extra money to put into the HSA and depending on circumstances, one may emerge a winner on this plan or a looser. Typically young, healthy, high wage earners benefit from this plan. One also may simply avoid seeing a doctor. That is my plan since I do not want to spend my retirement money on doctors before I…

My husband's diabetic mother died from KA, on his 16th birthday. The official cause of death was listed as cardiac arrest. His whole family believes the doctor at the hospital killed her and covered it up.

A wage increase?!!!! Maniacal laughter is taking place in our house right now. My husband is turning 65 at the end of this year. He will be continuing to work until he is 69 due to the Great Recession and frozen wages. We just received notice that his pension payments are being suspended while he is still working and they…

Our insurance is through CVS/Caremark. They have allowed 600 glucose strips for three months. 6 times a day x 30 days x 3 months, rounded up. The cost in 2016 was $75.00 That is now. Next year, I just don't know since our plan is changing. I have no info on the cost of Blood Ketone Strips since they were never offered.…

We rarely go to the movies anymore and we do not eat there when we do.

I'm in Georgia, winter here is lovely and doesn't last long enough. The air is brisk, clean and invigorating. There are no yard chores and no bugs.

Went out to vote at 9Am, back at 9:45. Line was short and time was spent talking to my neighbors about cats and a recent bear sighting. Now I can sit down and have coffee.

When opening doors in public, avoid germs by using the bottom of your shirt to grasp the handle or use paper towels.

No need for condolences. All worked out in the end. His true fasting LDL was a bit high (119), but everything else was normal. He is taking Krill oil and is LCHF. Perhaps a LDL-particle count is in his future?

The results of his first (non fasting) Biometrics, draw are are nearer to the beginning of this discussion. Those very high triglycerides (223) resulted in his failing to meet goals. I am a retired Med Tech too, I would have been severely chastised if I did not ask if the patient was fasting, it should have been…

I am not sure why yesterday's post did not move up to Nov 5th from Oct 4th. Technical issues with MFP? Thought it would be of some interest.
