  • I am afraid to weigh myself. All business travel has ceased for my hubby and older adult child is working from our house. While a stable income and having him home is great, I have been spending an inordinate amount of time in the kitchen, cooking up a lot of bean dishes. Add in some rice and well, there goes the low carb…
  • Not surprised.
  • We have ordered Happy Family with Egg Drop Soup or Hot and Sour. No rice, noodles or fortune cookies. The owners are kind enough to give us extra soup. My 2 hour sugar levels have been satisfactorily low (somewhere around 110 or less). Chicken and broccoli are also good for us.
  • The two of us (age 62, 66) budget $400 a month for consumables (food and things like toilet paper). Most of it is bought at Sams Warehouse, Costco and Aldi. There are months that we can't even spend the budgeted amount. Our food portion sizes have gotten smaller, which helps. We recently had company (our age) and were…
  • I have totally gone off my metformin and my glucose reading are normal! My next doctor's appointment is in November. Can't wait to see what my A1C will be. At least the war with my Diabetes has been won!
  • My almost lifelong experience with migraines (started age 9), ended with my hysterectomy and ovariectomy. Those migraines never went away with food and I was too nauseated to eat much anyway.
  • Yes, see above post on NMR results. Weight is holding steady between 138 and 140. We have been on this diet now since June 2016. Insurance contracted rates resulted in me paying about $13. Not bad. Hubby had his NMR and no surprise, his particle count was higher than normal also. Both of us are fighting the good fight.
  • You are an inspiration to us all!!!!!
  • We grilled brats yesterday. We had them with sauerkraut, grilled home garden zucchini, and layered bacon over the zucchinis while grilling them. Yum! Forgot to add, sliced fresh from our garden, heirloom tomatoes.
  • Have you tried using the GoodRx app? They are also online. It's free and I have been getting really cheap prices for my meds. They may have a coupon for name brand Glucophage. I am finding it cheaper to find the prices through them and go to other pharmacies, then go to my "required" in network, CVS. The Free Metformin…
  • Simple foods are the staples of my LC diet. I don't like to cook complex anymore. So I eat 2 fried (butter) eggs in the morning, coffee with heavy whipping cream. Every day. Sometimes with a slice of bacon or sausage piece. Today I added a little bit of tomato from my garden. Lunch is canned red sockeye salmon, or sardines…
  • The brand that my Publix Pharmacy, Atlanta area, gives for free (no charge at all!), is from Ascend Laboratories. My gastric tract has no problems with taking it. There are other stores around that do the same or charge practically nothing at all. I use the GoodRx app to get my prescriptions now that my insurance has gone…
  • I have reached 139 pounds, 5'8", Female age 61. I have to think about maintaining weight also, no less that 135. But, the problem is, there is no hunger or cravings with carbs less than 20 a day! I went from about 178 to 139 in 13 months, with the added bonus of my diabetes sugars averaging in the 85 to 110 range, 2 hr…
  • Stains are not for everybody. That being said, you need to have a heart calcium scan to see if you already have calcified arteries. Insurance does not pay for this, but Groupons are available online for about $50.00. Usual price is about $150. An NMR advanced Lipid test can be had online too, if your doctor refused to do…
  • No. Please don't force perfume on other people.
  • I don't think you can go wrong by sticking to water. I avoid the sweeteners since they increase insulin levels.

  • The Statins have been increased to lower the LDL-C. That in and of itself can possibly lower the Calcium Score (over 1,200). No guarantees. I am currently supplementing with CoQ10, Wild Alaskan Fish Oil, Vitamin K-2, Mature Multi Vitamin, Super B, and getting more sun for my Vitamin D. My weight is now down to 141 and my…
  • Finally I have the results of the NMR Lipid Profile. As I strongly suspected, my LDL-P is high, even though I have been on the LCHF diet for a year. God knows what is was when I was eating the ADA diet. These results are with taking 20 mg Generic Crestor for about a month, with 10 mg the proceeding month. My doctor has now…
  • Think of those poor horses when the kittens attack! Singing, "Attack of the killer kittens, attack of the killer kittens.."
  • Well, kittens have to work for a livin'.
  • Now I am having relatives email me with links to the coconut oil controversy. The AHA can kiss my white shiny patootie. The AHA and the American Diabetes Association have given me a death sentence with their high carb diet advice for more than half my lifetime. Kitten them and the horses they rode in on!
  • The doctor's office could not tell me what the NMR costs, neither could Anthem. I called Labcore up directly and they said the basic cost was $119, with Anthem's contractual rate it will be less and then would apply to my high deductible if done under doctor's orders. Anthem does cover the test. Gale, I am so happy for you…
  • Hey Guys, I went to my PCP to get an advanced lipid profile done, and they really did not know what I was ordering. Doc poked his head in the door and said to order a VAP. So they drew blood for the Vap and it turns out that Lab Core doesn't do it any more after they sent it off. This office is totally uniformed about this…
  • Blocked in Georgia, USA. I will use a VPN to see it.
  • Today, I passed the exercise stress test with flying colors, absolutely no problems, so because of that the cardiologist will not order a nuclear stress test to see if my coronary arteries have good flow. This is probably insurance related since insurance has to approve it. A high calcium score is not justification. He…
  • This is a link to an article written by a reporter who had no adverse signs of health problems and had a Calcium Heart Scan done which ultimately ended up with him having bypass surgery. The only risk factor was his parents health history. It saved his life.…
  • My high deductible Anthem Health Insurance just went through for this. I have to pay that SOB $242, out of my pocket. He labeled it a Consultation. Additional to be separately determined is the EKG I had during the visit. There is a $66 for something they didn't include on the original EOB, maybe it is the EKG. My test in…
  • We received the Calcium and lipid profile results for my husband in the mail. Without statins, his lipid profile if perfectly normal. His calcium score is 569, excessive plaque burden. His diabetes is worse than mine, but has gotten a whole lot better since we started LCHF last year. His high blood pressure has been under…
  • Interesting videos, thank you for your help. It seems like there is a total disconnect in the medical world.
  • Hardee's Biscuits with Gravy! Used to eat it at all the time. Made me what I am today, diabetic. Just remembering the taste makes me salivate. Now, that was good eating!
