  • Both are healthy in there own ways, like everyone has stated. But i think when it comes to people and the types of oatmeals they buy, eggs are by far the healthier choice. I personally can't stand the steelcut oats, i just can't do it. I do enjoy Quaker oats (the strawberry kind) but lets face it, that isn't obviously a…
  • Nope! Being 5'3" it seems like i have a lot to lose though... I've already lost 20 pounds but i barely see a difference. And i think that's why people think its more difficult, weight is more easily seen when you're short.
  • Abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym. I log but i pay no attention to the "net" calories i gain back. Its more for me to keep in the habit of exercising/logging food.
  • How are you measuring out food? Lots recommend you use a food scale. It's actually not uncommon that when we use measuring cups we have more than we actually think. There is a great video people post, i don't have it, so i hope someone posts it. But you could actually be consuming more than you think... What types of food…
  • Hey :) i get what you mean. At one point i hit my highest at 165 pounds and i was so disgusted with myself i did the change. I lost 20 pounds and stayed in 140-145 pounds for the longest time. And when i restarted (i took a break for 2 weeks while on vacation) i couldn't seem to break the 140 pounds... And it took me on an…
  • Ahh okay. Yeah i don't use that.. But diet coke has calories, no? I don't know, i log everything. You think "well this wont effect it too much..." and you do that a hand full of times throughout the day, or even week, and it all adds up.
  • This. Though 1,200 is the bare minimum its far too low if you want to have the energy to physically be able to lift (properly) and give your muscle the right nutrition to repair themselves and heal. I eat on average about 1,500 calories. I do Strength and Cardio alternating and take a break on Sunday.
  • No don't log it as water -- as it's not. Put it as a regular food and get the correct amount of nutritional value. Nothing wrong with giving yourself a treat, but certainly make sure you log it correctly.
  • @sijomial im not sure we are fully understanding one another. That calorie burn is for a 140 pounds person, right? What happens when i drop it down to 120? I lose calories. So how does weight not play a role? I'm not saying a person can't burn a bunch of calories. I'm meaning when it comes to MFP they normally over…
  • @sijomial yeah of course. But considering the OP asked this question i don't think they're at that athletic point yet. It's a lot more difficult for someone my weight to burn that. 500 cals in an hour? I think i'd die before i got to that point... I'm just meaning in general, for an average person, it's a lot more easier…
  • I'm assuming you gained back 15lbs and that's why you're redoing your diet? If so that's a matter of you still needing to learn how to control your diet. People who gain muscle actually need to eat MORE than their maintenance weight. So working out wont undo anything. It's your eating habits that are undoing it.
  • :D :D I have big calves too... I'm about 20 pounds overweight still, but even so mine are about 15"... I'm not sure how much smaller they'll go down. We'll have to see..
  • You do ALL those workouts in one day? Or is this over the course of a week? There is a thing as too much exercise... It's great to workout, but you might be causing your body to stress. Over working muscles and not giving them enough time to rest. Even the best of bodybuilders take days off. Remember weight loss comes from…

  • It depends how much you weight... An obese person doing about an hour of exercise can lose 500 cals pretty easily... But someone like me, at 140 pounds, i probably only burn about 150-200 (and thats kind of generous). Most people follow a rule of eating back about 50%-75% of what MFP claims you burn. I personally eat about…
  • Everyone should be getting at LEAST 30 minutes of cardio everyday. And that includes things as simple as walking. You NEED to get your body moving EVERY SINGLE DAY. To lose weight? Maybe you have to up it to an hour, some people even need to do 90 minutes. I think it's odd when people say "you dont have to do any" of…
  • Because i highly doubt, at 140 pounds, a 45 minute aerobic exercise is over 300 calories burned? They are too many grey areas in MFP for it to accurately give a number. But back to the question: I personally do not eat back my calories. In general i feel if you're eating above 1,200 calories there is no need. And if you…
  • I personally workout 6 days a week. I started out first doing cardio that had added strength elements (push ups, squats, core, a bit is resistant, etc). But i'm trying to add in "actual" strength, using heavier weights. So i might need to change up how i workout (maybe only 5 days a week instead). So it all depends on YOU.…
  • What exactly are you eating? Sometimes it's trial and error, you need to figure out how your body reacts to certain foods. Have you added more protein to your diet? vegetables?
  • Ick... yeah i have to agree with @auddii. Would more than likely taste like a sweet egg... You can try to google some "healthy" recipes. Just maybe you'll have to eat HALF instead of a full muffin. My grandpa makes these chocolate chip cookies that uses pumpkin instead of flour, they're really good and hits the sweet…
  • I have a 'cheat' day but i make sure i don't go over 2,000 calories. Its more of less when i have family get togethers and i don't feel like trying to under eat. Everyone always say: you cant lose weight in a day. And therefore you cant gain weight in a day. Splurge a little, but be mindfull and don't go too overboard!
  • When is your last meal? You might need to have a late night snack of some sort. What types of food are you eating? Are you working out? Added exercise on a low calories diet can make people more hungry. What calories are you at? Eating at 1,200 cals is way too low for me (i had that problem) but at 1,500 i feel fine
  • You can always hard boil some eggs the night before? Eat that with some toast for some good protein/carbs for the day. Can throw in some fruit too? You can try a healthy omelet with some fresh vegetables (go light on the cheese)? Some people even make oatmeal the night before and microwave it and add fruit and honey!
  • Now... are you at least making sure you're not going OVER calories? That could be your problem. 2 days a week of eating whatever you want can really hurt a diet... 10 pounds seems like a lot for a month though. Are you making sure you're accurately counting calories? Are you eating back what you've lost through workout?…
  • You've already answered your problem. Food is the key to success. You need to very strict when it comes to reading labels, measuring and counting ALL your calories.
  • I'm at the same problem. I have roughly 20 more pounds to go and i've not lost a single pound in 3 weeks. But i found i lost an inch around my waist. Could the same be happening to you? Losing inches and no pounds?
  • The only way for me, personally, was to eat more often. People always told me to eat protein but it seemed to have 0 effect for me. I would try to have eggs in the morning and still felt completely hungry after 2 hours.
  • Snacks for me are mostly fruits and vegetable based. But i do buy some bars from the store: Cascadian Farms has a chewy granola bars, i love them. And Health Valley Organic Multigrain Cereal Bars, Strawberry Cobbler. (They have apple and blueberry, too). I didn't really buy them 'cause they were organic, they just looked…
  • Exactly! I tend to enjoy chocolate milk, it always works. It's not insanely unhealthy, the milk is a good protein source with the added benefit of the calcium is nice to have of course. The chocolate bit obviously isn't the 'best' but doing a tablespoon or so isn't enough to completely ruin a diet.
  • It seems most people's post-workout snacks are protein based. Eggs, nuts, salad, etc. Having milk is even a good protein source. Nuts with yogurt and fruit? Eggs with vegetables? Nuts (almonds, walnuts?) and yogurt. If you're having meals you can do: Eggs and vegetables and toast if you'd like? Salad with chicken and/or…
  • No... at most i have about 30 pounds, probably not even that much. Maybe 20 left. I'll continue and see if i lost anything this week. I'll try to even be MORE strict than i already have. But like i said i've already lost 20 pounds and it wasn't nearly as complicated. I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong.
