  • I always find fruit helps me with sugar/candy cravings  Especially particularly sugary fruits like pineapple! Dates are pretty good too- stuff one with nut butter for a natural Snickers-esque snack. They're pretty high calorie though so try not to go overboard!
  • I drink a lot of water (often over 2 litres a day) to help keep me hydrated, but I drink tea and coffee as part of meals and snacks for the taste and to finish off my meals. I also drink alcohol on weekends (and some naughty weeknights). I drink smoothies but consider them meals as opposed to drinks, and I drink diet/sugar…
  • I bought some ice cream that I've wanted for ages but was too scared to try because of the calories
  • I think the point to these things is that they're meant for people who aren't dieting, and they are meant as a healthier treat food. Not healthy as in "low calorie", but healthy as in high nutrients, low refined sugar, etc (usually). Nuts aren't bad for you, we need healthy fats in our diet and vegans (especially health…
  • I have a cheapo Mi Band  I use it because it's cheap and gives me a step estimate which helps me be more active (at least in theory)! I've found it has also helped me with my sleep hygiene :)
  • I get blood sugar peaks and dips when I have refined sugars. I've recently stopped eating added sugars (candy, chocolate, sugary drinks, plain sugar etc.) for the most part. Instead, I get my sugars mainly from fruit and dates, with a little rice malt syrup every few days. It's really improved the blood sugar dips-…
  • Not me! I'm trying to work up to not weighing myself at all (or at least not more than weekly or monthly).
  • Why don't you try eating fruit instead of candy? Try interesting (and sweet) fruits instead of the boring old apples etc... fresh pineapple, fresh watermelon, berries (really good for snacking on, even frozen ones). Dates are good- in moderation! Especially with some nut butter :) I find that I'll be craving candy, but…
  • I saw Food Inc and realised that even the most humanely killed animals are not truly humanely killed... as the concept doesn't exist. I went vegetarian the next day. After that, I looked into the treatment of animals in the food industry and the environmental effects of the food industry- was horrified- and started…
  • Just keep an eye on it with your doctor :) Getting off blood pressure medications is a good thing, it means you're getting healthier! As long as you don't end up being off all your medications and still having harmfully low blood pressure- but that's pretty unlikely. I often have issues with low blood pressure around…
  • I'm vegan! Feel free to friend me :)
  • The chickpea water/aquafaba is really great for making meringues! Some people find it difficult to succeed in making them using it, but I found it was fine- and everyone I served them to actually preferred them to the egg version, surprisingly :) I want to experiment with making chocolate mousse using it. It's quite funny…
  • Peanut butter!! And tempeh :open_mouth: Beans are great too, but I find that I need to have something alongside them like toast or rice :)
  • That's why I use coconut oil for frying tempeh bacon :) I don't really fry much else.
  • There is a place for coconut oil, although I do think the health benefits are mostly unsubstantiated. I use it for cooking tempeh bacon in because it gives it a great flavour. It's also great for making your own chocolate! I know some people use it as a spread by itself... I would never do that, it sounds so gross to me. I…
  • You could have a tablespoon of peanut butter on a rye cracker (so good), veggie sticks with hummus (protein +fibre), edamame beans (you can buy them frozen and quickly microwave them). My favourite is some kalamata olives!
  • The point of eating everything in moderation is to avoid unhealthy food restrictions, which can lead to huge amounts of anxiety and disordered eating when taken too far- and can easily lead to social issues as food is an integral part of many social interactions. A healthy relationship with food isn't just using food as…
  • I love Clif bars
  • I'm planning on making my own dishes to bring to parties, and my own Christmas cookies :) And brandy soaked cupcakes... yum. Being vegan often means I'm not hugely provided for at Christmas things so I find I don't experience the overeating issue. Bringing my own stuff ensures I do get some sort of food! :)
  • Congrats! :) Must be a great feeling.
  • I love peanut butter. Great way to get protein and fat into my diet! I love it on toast with jam or in a smoothie. Or with icecream. I eat crunchy natural peanut butter with no added sugar or oil- it's so much more satisfying than the usual stuff with heaps of add-ins, I find :)
  • That's so true! My boyfriend and I make delicious lentil burgers with cumin and spinach- so good with avocado and veggies on a good bun  Plus they're healthy!
  • I personally like dark chocolate- or just treat yourself with some candy every once in a while :) You don't need to cut anything out! Fruit (especially berries) are a great day to day candy substitute if you want to be healthy, but real candy in moderation is fine too :)
  • People won't judge you for going to the gym :) In fact, they'll probably be happy for you and impressed that you made it to the gym while many people don't exercise at all! Even if they do judge you privately, remember that you are doing this to better yourself. It isn't your problem what others think- they're pretty much…
  • I'd prefer going from overweight down. I've been from underweight up, and it's physically and mentally painful. Something that a lot of people don't understand about eating disorders is that the very act of being underweight for your body has a physiological effect on the body that distorts your body image and makes you…
  • I don't have a local Walmart, and I think judging people on their outward appearance is rude, unnecessary, and ends up hurting everyone involved. So I probably won't be doing that.
  • Sandwiches, avocado on toast (my favourite), smoothies, leftovers from dinner the night before, toasted cheese sandwiches etc :)
  • Calculate the number of calories you need to maintain the weight you're at, then eat more calories from healthy foods than that :) I'm currently trying to gain weight without counting calories, and some things that I've done are planning out my meals (three meals and 2-5 decent snacks) so I'm not tempted to skip meals etc.…
  • I'm not really an emotional eater but I think preventing myself from relapsing into my eating disorder has some similarities to the strategies others here use :) Not labeling foods as good or bad is a really great strategy for anyone to use, in my opinion. Eating things in moderation is fine- balance is important mentally…
