Oatmeal with chopped nuts, dried or whole sliced fruit and a little bit of sweetener. Or a savory oatmeal - like congee - with sesame and soy sauce. Toast with banana and nut butter. Why not try soup or noodles for breakfast? Plenty of cultures do that. Don't let the American/British breakfast culture dominate you! :)

I like this mental exercise. It reminds me of dialectical behavior therapy - connecting your behaviors with thoughts. Mastering my "mood dependent" behavior has been a struggle like OP but connecting my behavior with the results is very effective.

Find a way to make your studies more active? For example, create study cards and walk around while reading. Recite chemical formulas while busting out a handful of squats. Absolutely. I feel you. I've gained 40 lbs over 10 years and I'm still disappointed in myself. I don't want to see people I went to college with because I'm ashamed. I used to be 125-130 and fit. Now I'm 158 (down from 165) and look like a cheese curd.

Season and spice your food well. Make and add low calorie sauces. Learning to cook well can make dieting less of a chore.
