  • All arguments on phrasing can be avoided just by using proper terminology. Muscle doesn't weigh more or take up less space than fat. It is more dense than fat. The only way you can compare their weights (masses) is to state you have the same volume of each. The only way you can compare their volumes is to state you have…
  • If you do decide to let up during the vacation, I would say get back in good habits as soon as you get back but don't weigh yourself for at least a few days. That weigh any water retention would have smoothed itself out and you won't have that part of any weight changes contributing to any extreme discouragement.
  • If making a large amount of pasta, I weigh how much I put into the pot, then I weigh the final weight after draining. That way I know what the ratio dry to cooked is. Just be careful if you take seconds or when divvying up leftovers because the cooked weight will become lower as it sits from evaporation. So 150g right…
  • If I go to a gathering I know is probably not going to have healthy options, I pig out on lower calorie-dense foods like cherry tomatoes, berries, salad beforehand or even bring a bunch with me. I'm not hugely comfortable in big groups because I'm pretty introverted, so I systematically keep putting food in my mouth even…
  • Ignoring the egg part of the question and addressing the loss of bum part. What exercising do you do at the gym. I've seen it said that if you do a lot of treadmill running it can contribute to that due to your legs functioning differently than non-machine running which (according to what I read) causes you to lose your…
  • It is a cream based soup with high amount of fat. In the ingredients, the first is water and second is heavy cream, which is only slightly heaver than water. I don't think I had an abnormally high or low amount of the other "stuff". I had bought a quart and what I ate was the last third of the quart after my daughter had…
  • Go to My Home Go to Goals Click Edit in the Fitness box. It is in the right column.
  • The idea of eating cottage cheese has always grossed me out. But if it's blended, do all the little gobs go away? If so, what flavor does it actually have?
  • I work at a gas station where if I'm not actively ringing people up, I'm supposed to be getting stuff done. So I do a lot of walking back and forth and on some days carrying cases of beverages to restock the cooler which then can include a fair amount of lifting, bending and twisting. Also depending on whether I close or…
  • I hate my job and my car is broken so I have to walk to and from the job I hate even though my feet hurt from standing all day at the job I hate.
  • I buy 90% lean ground beef. But that is mostly because I'm lazy and don't want to have to drain the meat after browning it. And I like my meatloaf better without all the fat coming out of it. I tried my chili with ground turkey once and found it very lacking. And ground turkey isn't necessarily lower fat although the…

  • I'm 5' 5.5" with a large frame and very large calf muscles. (I joke that I could lose 10 pounds by cutting them off). I started at 227 pounds and am currently down to 187 pounds. My first goal was to get below 200 pounds and now I am setting short term goals at 20 pound increments. My temporary long term goal is 150 pounds…
  • As long as the lower calorie meals in the morning and afternoon are keeping you satisfied and you don't find yourself sneaking (or wanting to sneak) other food, then you're fine. I did this a while back with good results. About 300 cal for breakfast, 100-150 calorie snack, around 300 calories for lunch, 100-150 cal snack…
  • Actually you can add all that information after you "Enter New Recipe" under the "Old Recipe Calculator" but you have to select the radio button for Yes under the question "Would you like to submit this recipe to the MyFitnessPal recipe database?" That is the only way I ever saw it show up at all in the first place.
  • It is probably from a food combining person. There is a theory that different types of food require different digestive environments so eating two foods together that require different digestive environments results in neither being digested properly. Ultimately it says fruits should be eaten before anything else and…

  • What may help is if you do try to stop counting calories at a certain point, weigh yourself daily instead and track it on a website like trendweight.com. Then if you see the trend start to creep up you can start tracking calories again until it trends back down. You would still get a yo-yo effect but a much smaller one.
  • I eat a lot of chicken breasts. I also mainly try to find healthier ways of cooking foods I already like. Using less oil/butter when cooking, using spices instead of sauces. I hate zucchini and won't eat it, brussel sprouts, eggplant, summer squashes, etc. They all taste like grass to me. I also will not eat fish unless it…

  • According to Calorielab.com, a person weighing 168 lbs, swimming at 50 yards per minute (the speed you said you were swimming, converted) will burn an additional 536 calories per hour. Going 50% faster (or taking 1/3 less time for the same distance) will burn 765. These may still be a little high because it doesn't…
  • Late updating but 6/6: 198.6 6/13: 196.9 6/20:195.6 6/27:195 7/4: Goal: 188.6 pounds Hit kind of a plateau, but I'm going down again (190.4 today!)

  • 6/6: 198.6 6/13: 196.9 (forgot to weigh myself :P so this is the average of the 12th and 14th) 6/20: 6/27: 7/4: Goal: 188.6 pounds
  • I usually use shandela for the first four letters of my first and last names but it was taken so I had to use my backup, which is the first letter of each word in my last name and then the first four of my first name.
  • A few things 1. I can actually touch my toes (never was able to do that ever) 2. The front of my thigh has a very noticeable muscle when I am laying down with my knee pointing up. It used to be just fat looking. 3. I can fit into a pair of dress pants that I used to wear about 15 years ago. 4. When I started up 2.5 months…
  • I don't use an app, but I log it daily at https://www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/HackDiet which is what trendweight.com bases their method on. I actually read the online e-book that was written by the person who developed this. It was a pretty interesting read and he explains how you can use it even once you reach your goal…
  • Some people (like myself) really suck at "eyeballing". I can't eyeball 12 inches, I can't eyeball 3 oz, and I can't eyeball a half of a cup. I know my flaws and I work with them rather than try to fight against them. If that means I have to obsessively weigh and calculate, then I live with it. I always have loved math…
  • If "dieting" doesn't work for you, try focusing on making small changes in your eating. Examples are hard to give without knowing your current eating habits. Increasing your protein to help protect against muscle loss would be a good idea though. Also, try doing strength training to add muscle which will increase your…
  • I've lost exactly 10 pounds since 4 weeks ago, so I'll see if I can do it again. 6/6: 198.6 6/13: 6/20: 6/27: 7/4: Goal: 188.6 pounds
