YES! BINGO! It's counter-intuitive, right? We have been so conditioned to deprive ourselves in an effort to "lose weight" when in actuality the opposite is true. Obesity is all about DEPRIVATION- both physiologically, nutritionally and emotionally- not caring for ourselves enough to give ourselves what we truly deserve:…

EXACTLY!!! Again, for those who haven't through all above- I am NOT suggesting that we eat more than our daily maintenance requirement. That would cause weight gain. I am also not suggesting that actually STARVING ourselves would not cause us to lose weight (albeit in a very unhealthy way.) I am suggesting that keeping…

Thank you so much, @gandssmith! I know it SOUNDS nuts to those used to depriving themselves- but if you don't believe me, ask a professional nutritionist. I am rather an obsessive type once I get into something. I don't "forget" to log food or have "cheat" days. [Those days only "cheat" yourself. And why would I want to…

I went to a nutritionst at the gym and got a test done which measures your EXACT resting metabolic rate. I found that very helpful. I had to pay out of pocket for the test, however many insurances pay for nutritional counseling! (mine pays 100%- no deductible & no copay!)
-
I went to a nutritionist and had a test called "Medgem" done. You wear a clip on your nose & mouth breathe into a machine for 10 minutes or so (I found it very unpleasant). It is supposed to be very accurate- and each person is different. (It gave me an *incredibly* high number- over 1900 calories!!- and I am 61 years old!…

@deannc1 that sounds like a great plan! Amazing that it's so much cheaper there! I never would have imagined. I've heard that plastic surgery can be WAY cheaper & better overseas...
-
Um...unless you think that the computer can somehow SEE whether you've eaten it yet- YES! :) @cherrypit333
-
Thanks, @deannc1. Not to worry- you can look forward to being as close to perfection as humanely possible! :) I'd imagine it will be a great incentive NOT to gain weight back after the surgery! I imagine it's not cheap....

I also ate at 3:30 am last night (my next goal is to move my bedtime up slowly- but it's not easy to change a lifelong Night Owl habit). Anyway- I had 18g of almonds & a glass of water (2 cups)- so at least I did something virtuous along with it. It put me 100 cals over my cal budget- but I wasn't that concerned as I'm…

Personally, I have NEVER had luck getting pants taken in- unless it's just a little tuck in the waist or something. Every time I've done it, they end up not fitting correctly. IMO you can get jeans so inexpensively here- at Marshall's or wherever- that it really doesn't pay to get them taken in and risk them getting…

Maybe something with light hand weights or fitness bands?
-
Another idea I had- and this would require that you have SPACE and TIME- I was thinking of staring a meetup group for people who are losing weight- and then having a "clothing library" where people could "check out" clothes.
-
I was actually thinking of joining one of those services where you pay a flat fee per month and get to "rent" clothes- it's sort of like the "Netflix" of clothing. Has anyone here tried anything like that? I think we deserve to look GOOD and have fun dressing cute WHILE we are losing. I was thinking this might be a…

I eat **only** full fat dairy, grass fed. SO worth the extra few calories- and there is research now saying that full fat is actually better for you. I'm almost at the "30 lbs released" mark! (just .6 lbs away) since I started on Jan 1.

Wow! That's amazing!!! @Cutemesoon - implants are easy- and you can choose the shape/size you want to be.
-
WELCOME!!! I starting on my own before I found this site- and since Jan 1 I've lost 29.6 lbs! Honestly- I have found it AMAZINGLY EASY (and I'm 61!) My best advice: Go to a nutritionist and get the "Medgem" test done- it will tell you exactly what your resting metabolic rate is & how many calories you need to maintain your…

This is the STILLMAN diet, from many years ago. I'm an expert, as I used to do it when I was a teenager. You MUST drink AT LEAST 8 glasses of water per day or you will DESTROY your kidneys. Yes, you will lose weight- on STILLMAN I lost 1 lb per day. But it is VERY unpleasant, not sustainable, and NOT healthy- and on the…

PS- @deannc1- over what period of time did you lose the weight?
-
@deannc1 I love your rationale for why they should pay for the surgery. Seems absolutely fair to me! That's the LEAST they can do :) ANYONE out there in this age group who lost and didn't have any remaining loose skin- or who "snapped back" eventually? [Btw, this am for the first time I saw the number "163" (.6) on the…
-
Thanks very much for the input, @deannc1 . Over what period of time did you lose the weight? When you pinch the loose skin, is it very thin (ie, do your fingers touch?) as they would if you pinched the skin on your hand? Did the surgeon recommend losing all the weight you want to lose first?
-
@pdxwine Congratulations on **92** lbs. That's incredible. Over what period of time did you lose it, and how old are you? I'm hoping we will hear from some women over 55 who have actually found a way to rid themselves of the excess skin- or who never got it in the first place.
-
I weigh and measure very carefully too. We have lost a similar amount of weight in a similar time frame (I've actually lost 28 lbs since Jan 1st- mistyped original msg.) Anyway- I am stating a fact- what has worked for me in my own experience.

You have to eat LESS than your maintenance requirement. MORE than that will make you gain weight, obviously.

@Kamikazeflutterby Thanks for the reply- BUT no, I'm not imagining it and I know what a calorie is. I've been counting cals all my life. Nutritionists I have spoken with confirm that they recommend MORE calories to many of their clients for weight loss- and that many people fail precisely b/c they do not eat *enough*.…
