I eat a piece of fruit or dark chocolate. But it helps to consider why you have cravings. Is your blood sugar stable? Do you crave them more when you're tired, stressed, etc? You might need more sleep, stress management, more frequent meals, etc. Another option is to work on resetting your palate for sweets. Eat whole…

Perspective. I try to view setbacks as part of the process to becoming a better, stronger version of myself. Also, focus on the bright side of a bad time. A couple years ago I had an abdominal hysterectomy and wasn't allowed to do much of anything for 6 weeks. Instead of worrying about the fitness downfall, I appreciated…

You need to address the emotional issues that are causing you to overeat. For example, why do you feel anxious about him coming home later than you do? And what changes can you make in your own thinking or habits to lower that anxiety? If, for example, you don't feel safe when you're home alone, pour that energy into…

I'm not arguing against CICO, and no, height isn't the issue - my mother is 4'11", eats a high-carb vegan diet, and weighs 90 lbs. Just an anecdotal "me too." But I realized reading this that a major problem for me is my workouts suffer when I eat carbs. They make me feel sluggish and cause notable energy/blood sugar…

When I first did low-carb, I followed the primal blueprint diet. Tons of vegetables, meat, full-fat dairy, nuts, minimal fruit except berries. My energy was through the roof and I could fast without craving food. Obviously there's plenty to argue against that diet too, but I'm just sharing personal experience. My weight…

I'll second this. I'm 5'2" and I have to mostly eliminate carbs to reach/maintain weight goals. I'm sure the CICO argument is valid, but honestly I can eat a ton of calories from high fat/high protein/low carb and still lose weight, yet gain too much on calorie restricted higher carb diets. That's along with exercise -…

Hang in there, it does get better! When I first started working out hard, I had to wait 2 days between workouts - squatting into a seat was sooo painful. But the rest days helped a lot - I was able to push harder through each workout after a little recovery. You are tougher than I was - you can do it! I've only done two…

Can you give some more details about your exercise regimen and typical meals?

I went to a crossfit gym without knowing anything about it - and the first class was brutal. So was every single class after that. The benefits: I got in shape super quick and increased my strength and endurance in a very short time. It also made me stronger mentally - I learned that I can push myself through damn near…

That's a tough call! Sometimes working out again helps relieve the soreness, but other times you really do need rest for muscle recovery. Listen to your body! If you feel a little better after a warmup, go for it, but if you're in pain, don't push yourself to do more. You can always do an upper body workout or something…

Do you have time in the evenings to work cardio into your weight training? Intervals will bang it all out at once. Other than that... I'd recommend changing into your workout clothes the second you wake up, before you're awake enough to talk yourself out of it. The hardest part is getting started - one small step sets the…

So true! I feel like a bottomless pit when I eat oatmeal, breads/pancakes/etc, or fruits other than berries.

You can do it! I used 5 lb weights on the first day too, which was OK until the side lunge/arm raise things - I couldn't get them all the way up in the last few reps. Tonight is day 2 for me, see if it's any easier (or harder from being sore, ha)..

I eat full-fat plain Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and walnuts to enjoy yogurt without all the added sugars. The high fat/protein content makes it very filling, so it's tough to overeat as a snack. But it's also bitter by itself - takes some adjustment to get used to. I started with lots of fruit in it for sweetness and…

Do you always eat fruit with breakfast? And what kind? Any time I eat fruit with a higher sugar content, like bananas, I'm hungry within a few hours. But whenever I ate big omelets for breakfast (eggs, veg, cheese, avocado, sometimes bacon), I wasn't hungry again til much later in the day. You might want to try cutting…

I'm in! I just started level 1 of the shred yesterday. I'm taking rest days on Sundays because I work 12-hour shifts that day, but also I think it's good to give your body a break. I'll be rotating other workouts too and adding extra weight training at the gym throughout the week.
