Sure, why not.

Dammit, somebody beat me to it!!!!

Ignore it. That 1.5 lb change is nothing. I have fluctuated as much as six pounds over the course of one day.

I get this CONSTANTLY and it drives me up a wall. I was getting comments like this from people when I was 10 lbs heavier than I am NOW. But here's the thing I've realized: A lot - a LOT of people who say this are people who have been overweight for so long that they've forgotten what it really means not to be. Just…

Well this is very good news, then. Thanks for the responses all, gives me a lot to think about.

This, this, THIS. A hundred, thousand times this. Don't focus on 'eating clean' or cutting this or that nutrient or food. Calculate how many calories you need (based on your weight, activity level, age, etc.) to eat in order to be at a caloric deficit, and you will lose weight. Believe me, that's 99 percent of it.

For what it's worth, in the past year I've lost 50+ pounds simply by keeping my caloric intake lower than my expenditure. Some days, that meant I was exercising, but some days it didn't. On those days, I figured out what my allotment would be, and made sure not to eat over that caloric limit. One of the guys who works in…

I second (and third) the comments about the Fitbit/MisFit tracking accuracy. Activity trackers - even the best ones - are notoriously inaccurate for correctly estimating energy expenditure - especially if it isn't measuring your heart rate (I'm an endurance 'athlete' in training and I use heart rate zones when I'm cycling…

This. THIS. The population at large has literally lost all perspective, it seems, on what a healthy weight really is.

I think everyone might be interested in this article from the NCBI (NIH). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2990627/ Some interesting stuff if you read the entire thing.

Freaking amazing.

It's not just you (or just women, for that matter). Has been happening to me for a long time; sometimes the variations are so sudden it's hilarious.

First I risk drowning, followed by rolling around on metal and rubber, and top it off by attempting a heart attack, all while trying to go nowhere special.

Could always use more friends here - send them requests my way!

Do not - DO NOT -listen to anyone who tells you that Nursing is a bad career choice. My cousin is an RN (and hasn't been one for very long either) and she is making well over six figures at the hospital she works at (she has a position supervising nurses in her ward, if I remember correctly). Nurses - especially RNs - are…

If anybody wants to add me, feel free - I'm looking for more peeps here too~

Definitely looking for more.... feel free to add me!

Excellent chart. And yes, MFP's "calories burned" calculations are way, WAY off. It overestimates like crazy.

If their name was "Avobe," how could I turn them down? :) Friends.

23 pounds in 8 weeks? That's pretty epic. Well done.

Just to jump in here and add a little anecdote about how water retention influences your weight... One Saturday last summer I went out and put in about 25 miles on my road bike. On a whim, I weighed myself that morning before setting out (and I had a light, mostly carb breakfast to fuel up for the ride, but that was all).…

Bloody astonishing. And here I'm grumbling about trying to drop 15 stinkin' pounds....

Big props for posting this. My mother, who had been overweight her whole adult life, has many of these same problems now. And they are all due to her obesity. It also killed my father. But that's another story.
-
Yep, same here. I went up 3 pounds from Saturday to Monday...and now I'm back down 3 pounds. Ain't no big thing.

Can't really comment on your body composition based solely on your profile pic, but I'll tell you this much: You are not even REMOTELY old. And you are DEFINITELY not "ugly." Take my word for it. I'm serious.

This is actually not the first study to publish these sorts of findings. Here is one from 2009: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19198647 Here's an interesting article from 2015 on Science2.0 website discussing another, earlier study on the same topic:…

Only six hundred calories a day? Bad, BAD idea. Don't do it.
