This, this, THIS. A hundred, thousand times this. Don't focus on 'eating clean' or cutting this or that nutrient or food. Calculate how many calories you need (based on your weight, activity level, age, etc.) to eat in order to be at a caloric deficit, and you will lose weight. Believe me, that's 99 percent of it.

For what it's worth, in the past year I've lost 50+ pounds simply by keeping my caloric intake lower than my expenditure. Some days, that meant I was exercising, but some days it didn't. Big props for posting this. My mother, who had been overweight her whole adult life, has many of these same problems now. And they are all due to her obesity. It also killed my father. But that's another story.
