  • Hi. I've had thyroid cancer. It spread to my lymph nodes after radioactive iodine treatment. I've had 4 surgeries on my neck. I would say it can take a while for the meds to get right. I also lost my parathyroids so I have to increase my calcium intake. This is something you will need to keep your eye on as well as vitamin…
  • She is eating 2000 a day and not losing- after 3 weeks - that's how I've read it. It would suggest something isn't right. There isn't a calorie deficit I would assume. Of course everyone is different, everyone's metabolic rate is different. It just struck me with similar stats that 2k a day is a lot. I would gain at that…
  • 2000 cals a day sounds like a lot for weight loss. I am similar stats to you - 5'8" and 190lbs. I can only lose weight at 1400 cals a day and I train 4-5 times a week plus 10k steps a day. My maintenance cals are 1800 so unless you have a very active job then 2000 cals is probably too high. I would consider dropping to…
  • Yes and it didn't work- most of the meals are so caloric it's unreal. I had a PT at the time and she was scathing of his plan!
  • I went for tandoori king prawns - dry cooked with onions, 1/2 portion of boiled rice and a small piece of naan. Really enjoyed it and felt it wasn't too calorific. I feel more satisfied with less food now than before.
  • I can't offer much by way of advice as I'm in a similar position but I will just say keep plodding on! It's the food that will effect your weight the most not the exercise so really look at what you're eating, weighing, measuring etc. I have no thyroid gland which apparently reduces metabolism by only about 5%. Of course…
  • You guys are all amazing! So much inspiration and positivity. Onwards and upwards, I will keep it up!
  • I think this is right. I have a desk job 4 days a week and only train on 2 of those. I do get up and move around the building for various tasks during the day but mostly it is sitting. I guess I need to think carefully about adjusting the calories on those days to compensate. I won't give up, I am determined to keep at it…
  • Yes it does thank you. I generally try not to eat my calories back as I feel it defeats the object of trying to be in deficit. However I do have a desk job 4 days a week- despite this I still manage my 10k steps as I am pretty active before and after work. Weekends are non stop and I walk lots. Having said all this I think…
  • This might be where I am going wrong. I presumed with my activity levels that I am not sedentary. I train 4 times a week doing high intensity cardio classes and boxing, plus 10k + steps a day on average. Perhaps I am eating more still than my body needs .
  • Thanks for all the advice. I have opened up my diary so feel free to have a look and offer any more advice. I genuinely feel I need to cut calories even more as I'm not convinced the Fitbit is accurate with the figures. I'm aiming for 1000 a day deficit and feel I am doing this but it's just not showing. In the past I have…
  • I do use happy scale to trend the loss. I love my exercise and it's really been the catalyst in changing my mood and helping with joint pain so I don't want to give it up. But I don't see the changes either in the mirror, clothes or on the scales. I am however stronger and fitter so I guess the changes are internal.
  • It's not my time of month. Last week when I weighed and had lost it was just as my period had ended. It's just so disheartening. I know it's not linear but I have waited for a full month and was hoping that more than 1lb would be lost. It hardly seems to the effort when I factor in my efforts at exercise which I have been…
  • Hi, feel free to add me. I'm currently 190 and looking to get to 150. I'm in Derbyshire Uk, mum to 3 kids, have no thyroid gland and been a yo-yo dieter for years! Just started MFP journey for weight loss, slow losses at .5-1lb a week and I do 4 cardio classes a week.
  • I also had a similar issue. I upped my exercise massively and thought I was eating good but actually y gained 7lbs since Jan! 2 weeks ago I started tracking food on here- 1st week, no loss at all, this week- despite it being TOM I've lost 3lb! I'm definitely more careful about logging weights of food more accurately and…
  • I've gained 2lb this week and overall 7lb since starting exercise in Jan! I look more toned but I am still overweight at 5"8 and 14stone! I got down to 11 with slimming world and piled it all back again. It used to work for me and now it doesn't so even tracking macros and calories instead and upping the exercise. I am so…
  • Sorry- a mixture of cardio intense classes with some strength work- for example I do a dance fitness class, a boxing/cardio class, another dance class, boxfit, kettle bells and do resistance training at home. I've been doing this for about 8 weeks now but only calorie tracking my food for 2. I don't think I have water…
  • Thank you. I can't stomach eggs or meat for breakfast so the granola has to stay! I think I just need to up my protein and fats and it will balance out. Would a protein shake be a good option or is there snacks other than nuts that would do the job?
