  • The maths says that this will work and it's a really great idea, but as it's a very small deficit it will happen very slowly so you would have to be very patient. For example: BMR for a 33 year old female at 148lbs is approx 1444 calories. The same at 140lbs is approx 1409 calories, creating a daily deficit of just 35…
  • This time last year I was in the exact same position as you! I am getting married in June this year and started a conscious effort to lose weight in May last year, not long after I got engaged. I wanted to shift the 2.5 stone I had put on since meeting my fiancé but I wanted to do it at a sensible rate so that I didn't…
  • First of all, don't feel disappointed! You should feel proud of yourself that you achieved your goal by getting back into the gym. We don't always get things right straight away though... Try something more low impact such as a cross-trainer or a rowing machine. You could maybe mix in some time on the treadmill too if that…
  • I don't do milestone rewards, the reward for me is hitting the goal itself. But I also don't abstain from eating particular foods and so I don't feel the need to "treat" myself.
  • You can definitely lose weight with diet alone as long as you are eating fewer calories than your body needs to be sedentary. I do think that exercise is important for health and wellbeing and so, as other people have posted, if you are able to do some online workouts at home or arrange a personal training session, that…
  • I’ve consistently lost weight using a weekly target rather than a daily target; I eat a little less each week day so that I can enjoy my weekends a little more and treat myself. I find this way keeps me going!
  • If I go to the gym first thing in the morning I will work out fasted. If I am exercising after work then I will have a snack around 2 hours beforehand to give me some energy. If I eat too close to working out it makes me feel a little nauseous. I guess it's all down to personal preference.
  • I am fasting intermittently each week, following the 5:2 ratio. I eat 500 calories on two weekdays per week (usually Monday and Wednesday) and then for the rest of the week I stick closely to the calorie deficit that MFP has given me for my goal weight loss. This means that at weekends I have a bit of wriggle room for that…
  • I use Happy Scale to log my weight daily so that I can see the trend. I log my weight in MFP weekly, first thing on a Friday morning.
  • Realistic advice is just what I wanted, thank you. Perhaps "break" is the wrong word to use for what I was thinking - I would definitely remain accountable and continue to log everything (food and workouts), and just allow myself a little more on the calorie front. At the moment I'm not eating back any exercise calories so…
  • Thanks so much everyone for your comments, they have really helped. If I do take some time at maintenance I will keep going to the gym as I still want to maintain my fitness levels, so hopefully that with only a slight calorie increase shouldn't cause me to gain any weight (I just wouldn't be losing...). I do take on board…
  • Thanks for your views! It seems opinions are quite divided on this one but I think you're right in terms of whatever works best for the individual, I think weight loss as a whole is like that! Maybe I'll see where I am at in the autumn and decide then. It's good to know that it can be done! And also when you've been eating…
  • If your daily calorie goal is around 1,200 calories per day and you're exercising as well then there is no reason why you shouldn't be seeing results. I have had a look at your diary and unless you didn't eat anything at all on 23rd July then you aren't logging what you eat correctly. There are some evening meals missed…
  • I am doing the 5:2 diet as I know that it really works for me. I find that limiting my calories for two days during the week means that I can enjoy that extra glass of wine or a burger at the weekend which keeps me motivated! At the moment I'm also limiting my calories to 1540 on other days as well as I'm getting married…
