  • Hey JJ, first off good luck with your goals, if you have the right motivation and a solid consistent plan you will lose the weight. I'm not sure how much you need to lose, but at 42 I started from about 103kg (227lb) and at only 5'7 I was obese. With logging everything into MFP and regularly walking, some weights and then…
  • Hey thanks for the feedback everyone, lots of useful tips in there!
  • Thanks, probably a stupid question, but anyway. Not sure how long but certainly for a number of years. Good to know you're still improving, hopefully I can for quite a while to come.
  • Hey, great to hear your back. We all need motivation to keep at our goals, I'll add you if you're keen!
  • Good on you for making a start, happy to help if I can at all. Friend request sent!
  • Well you've made the step to try my fitness pal so that's a start! Just start logging your food carefully and set realistic goals and you can achieve them with some time. Adding in some exercise such as weights or walking would certainly help too. Good luck!
  • I was in a similar position to you, at 42 I started weight training and eating a lower carb diet. I know there are others who will say you need a specific diet, but for me it was just a consistent calorie deficit and I lost about 80lbs. It took about a year but I think it's a safer, healthier and cheaper option than…
  • Hey, glad to hear you're trying again! For me it was finding the right motivation to get the weight off in the first place. I've now got to make sure I keep it off, but so far that's going ok as I've discovered I enjoy running. So if I had any advice it would be stay consistent, set realistic goals and find something you…
  • Hey, great to hear you're trying again. Hopefully you can build on what you've achieved already and really hot your goals this time. Good luck!
  • This is exactly right. If you follow this advice and be consistent you'll be able to achieve your goals. It's all about that calorie deficit in the end! Good luck and don't be shy asking the community here for advice, there are plenty of supportive people here who've changed there lives for the better.
  • Sounds like you've made some great progress already. The only thing in the end really is your calorie intake. You might a flat spot here and there but if you consistently and honestly log everything you'll get there for sure. Good luck with it!
  • Welcome! Set some realistic goals, stay consistent, and I'm sure you can achieve what you want, good luck!
  • People you haven't seen for a year will ask "are you ok?" and look concerned like you're dying of cancer. Shopping for clothes is fun, no more big guys section! You get colder in winter without the extra layer. People give you free advice, like you're too skinny, even if you're still bigger than them. You might find like…
  • Great to hear Bridget, I'm sure you'll achieve your goals if you stay consistent!
  • Personally I've weighed as much as 107kg/235lb but I'm 5'7 so that was still a fair bit over. In just over a year I've managed to get myself to my goal weight of 66kg/145lb and there are plenty of others on here that have had success also, so know that with the right motivation and being consistent in logging your food you…
  • Hey Luke, I've just lost a bit more than that using MFP but I'm looking to keep it off now. Feel free to add me and I'll try and help!
  • Hey, I hope that works out for you! I've been here for over a year and currently have two friends lol. I'm trying to get more active in the community also, so feel free to add me if you'd like. I'm sure there are plenty of others on here who would be keen to support you as well.
  • Hey, sounds like you've had a rough time! My brother has Crohn's disease and my father in law suffered from fatty liver so I know a little about those, but if anything hopefully they can help give you motivation to get where you need to be health wise. I know that using MFP, if you log everything consistently and set…

  • Hey Shawna, welcome to MFP. I've managed to get to my goal weight using MFP, always happy to help if I can, but there are certainly more qualified people on here than me. Good luck with your weight loss, if you stay consistent, set realistic goals and try to get more active you'll get where you want to go :)
  • Hope it goes well, it's something I've thought about a little post weight loss too. Good luck.
  • Hey Justin, good on you for deciding to make the changes you need to get more healthy. I don't have a particular health condition, however when I started out I did weights and walking every day as well as tracking my kj/calories on MFP. Over time I've started running regularly and have hit my goal weight. Just be…
  • Welcome Rocksteady, I'm 43 myself and I've just come off losing 36kg/79lbs in just over a year. If you stick to your caloires in MFP you can definitely achieve your goals, just make realistic goals and keep at it! Good luck!!
  • Good on you for deciding to make a start Dave, there are many people on here that prove it can be done. Just pick realistic goals and stick at them. There will be times when your weight will fluctuate, but don't give up. If you're logging your food as accurately as you can then you WILL lose the weight and feel so much…
  • The top pic is from May 2016, bottom pic is September 2017, I've lost about 36kg (79lbs) and found about 1000 wrinkles lol
  • Nice work, that's definitely paying off for you! I'm 43 and for the first time in my life starting to get in shape. I still need to lose a little more weight yet before I can think about getting abs, but great to see someone else getting there. I'm still not sure if I have what it takes to be THAT disciplined, but then…
  • Thanks for all the helpful tips everyone!
  • Hi, thanks your suggestions. I've now set my diary to be viewable by friends, I'm not really sure whether opening it up to everyone is a good or a bad idea, but I'm more than happy to add you or anyone who wants to have a look over it. In regards to food logging I've tried to be very accurate, but I'm sure there are times…
  • Thanks for your thoughts. Yes the 8000kj was including exercise, I've also had other suggestions from online calculators up to about 9400kj. Generally I haven't been eating back my calories/kj from exercise at all, except on a very few days when I've had to attend a party or some other out of the ordinary reason. I'm…
  • Thanks, my weight loss has been fairly steady so far, with a few peaks and troughs as I'm sure is normal. I've just upped my kj count to 6900 to see how that works out.
  • Thanks, I have until now, the only reason I'm thinking about this is that I'm wanting to try and get a balance of not losing too much muscle as I get closer to my goal weight. If I use some online calculators, such as the one at 8700.com.au it suggests 9400kj per day which seems way too high to me. Anyway, I've upped my kj…
