  • I love Thanksgiving and I'm OK with having one or two days a year that are absolutely not weight loss days. LOL. Bring on the carbolicious calorific yums.
  • I'm very extroverted. I like to have people around and I'm motivated by the energy. I love to go to the gym. Someone said their gym doesn't have wifi and that would make it worse. I listen to Spotify when I'm at the gym.
  • Is your thyroid prescription at the right dosage for you? I thought it would be challenging, but I'm losing weight very easily. Easily enough I'm considering increasing how many calories I have each day a little. If your medicine (Synthorid or whatever you take) is set at the right level, you should be OK, but if you weigh…
  • I lost over 10 pounds my first month, and I've lost 30 pounds in just over 3 months. I use meal replacement protein shakes to keep calories down and get more protein (which makes me less hungry.) I also weigh my food, and I don't usually eat back exercise calories. I assume my weight loss will slow down as I get closer to…
  • I have an old Flex that I've been using for ages. It does motivate me. I really like to reach my goal each day. Also, my friends and I are always in little challenges you can do through the fitbit app. They're fun.
  • I just hit up Spotify and look for some exercise-related playlist. I don't always know what the song is or who the performer is, but they're upbeat anyway. My favorite playlist has a lot of Beyoncé.
  • My younger daughter always complains when I go to the gym if she's home. I generally go when she's at school, but I'm not held hostage either. She has a father and a teenage sibling who are both very capable of watching her. But yeah I feel like I have to hurry.
  • There's a picture there! :) It's a pokemon. The name was suggested by my youngest child.
  • I ate clean for years. I was so good about it. I shopped at food co-ops, farmers markets, everything was local and/or organic. I figured I was healthy. But I was fat. The fact is there isn't that much difference between organic and non-organic, and whole foods don't affect your body that differently from chemical foods.…
  • I wrote a post about postpartum issues here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10459284/postpartum-weight-loss#latest Don't worry about everything you eat affecting the baby. Just maybe caffeine. Has he been fussy after you eat? Some moms find that eating onions, or broccoli, can bother their babies, but…
  • It can work that way, but it doesn't necessarily. If they are only marketing it as low fat, they are not claiming it's lower in calories. You'd have to check the label to see, and some products might be lower in calories and others might not.
  • This sounds like more than a person can reasonably handle alone. You said you never got treatment before. Now is probably a good time to start. Love to you!
  • I don't like bacon. I love potato chips. I try to satisfy myself with popcorn or something, but whatever. And I'm allergic to chocolate so I never have that and don't miss it.
  • I guess this is where I'm lucky to be older. I don't care if I'm not perfect when I'm done. I just want to be healthy and live longer.
  • Yeah the FitBit is really just for fun, but if I can have fun trying to walk more than my friends in these silly FitBit challenges I'm always invited to, that's not so bad. There are worse forms of entertainment.
  • Not everyone who drinks protein shakes intends to lose weight, and they aren't all put together intentionally for that. If you are at a calorie deficit you'll lose weight even if you drink coca-cola, and that also isn't intended for weight loss. But I imagine they're just making that clear for someone who would rather buy…
  • I would never be tempted by a $147 audio book. LOL
  • I think a better idea than a cheat day is to arrange your calories so you can have the things you like from time to time so you don't feel like you need a cheat day.
  • I just get regular sour cream. There isn't that much on a taco. You might as well have something that tastes good. Plus, as someone said above, fat helps you feel full. And low-fat isn't necessarily lower in calories. Sometimes foods have added sugar to keep low-fat things tasting good.
  • I don't do cheat days but I do sometimes have stuff I know is bad for me. One day, I woke up really late, like at lunchtime, had a very light lunch and then was so busy that it was dinner before I had time to eat again. I had freaking fried chicken and french fries! I weighed how much and counted the calories, and I didn't…
  • I don't drink sugary drinks, but I'll drink a sugar-free one if I want. I don't know if it helps with sports but sometimes they taste good to me. I don't want to undo a bunch of work I've done exercising by drinking a ton of calories though.

  • I've heard 80/20, but there's value to exercise beyond weight loss. Exercise strengthens your heart, lowers your cholesterol, and exercise can increase mobility for older people. Like, start exercising before you get old, increase your strength, and you will be more mobile when you're old. Exercise is huge for your health…
  • It has had absolutely no effect on me whatsoever.
  • Oooh my husband and kids would love that!
  • FitBit - a Flex and I've had it for ages. Maybe it was $100 when I got it? Membership to Planet Fitness: $20 a month (I pay for the nicer membership so my husband can come with me if he wants) Protein shakes, but I'd be eating something else if I didn't have those, so I think they are a wash.
  • I have meal replacement shakes for breakfast, and sometimes for lunch, and they make it much easier for me, personally. But protein powder and protein meal replacement shakes are two different things. But they're available all over, like grocery stores, big box stores, etc.. If you don't like the taste, you can put them in…
  • I can handle pizza. I had just a small amount of pizza yesterday and was fine with just having that much. Sugary pop though, no way. I can't handle it. I'll just keep drinking it. And it's so sweet that everything else tastes lacking if I get used to that taste.
  • Your body uses about 500 calories a day to make milk when you are breastfeeding exclusively (no formula, no solid food.) So account for that when you figure out how much to eat. And don't try to lose too quickly or your milk production will suffer - if your body thinks it's starving, it might stop making milk. Lose slowly,…
  • Ha! Just now, after complaining here, I was able to actually disconnect, and then re-connect. But still no synching. I've more or less given up.
