  • The MFP/Fitbit connection is very buggy. I've tried to disconnect my fitbit and reconnect it to get it to synch up, and it won't actually let me disconnect. I go back to reconnect and find it's still connected. I've tried going to fitbit and taking away MFP's permissions and then re-allowing MFP, everything. I can't get…
  • You're probably retaining water, maybe due to your cycle, or eating something with a ton of salt, or something like that. Try not to sweat one or two weight-checks that are outside of a trend.
  • You need to make sure you don't cut calories too much right now or it will affect your milk supply. Wait at least three more weeks, and then even be cautious cutting calories too quickly. It takes 500 calories a day to make milk, and until your body is used to it, your body will be very happy to simply stop making milk if…
  • I started having meal-replacement protein shakes for breakfast (which I used to skip most of the time) and sometimes for lunch. There are tons of brands and options, and I sometimes put them in the blender with frozen fruit. I meet my protein goal now, but I wasn't getting there on my own with my food preferences. (Not a…
  • I have Hashimoto's hypothyroid disorder and I take 100 mcg. Once I got to the right dose and once my body adjusted to it (which did take several weeks) I was able to lose. I'm losing steadily now. If you're weighing your food, tracking absolutely everything you eat, and you're sure you're accurate and you still aren't…
  • I don't track exercise on MFP. I go to the gym regularly, but I don't work out that hard. I would track it if I were doing extreme amounts of exercise, because I'd need more food, but that isn't where I am.
  • I demonized artificial sweeteners for so long, and I used that as an excuse to eat things with sugar, and I got fat. I'm over that now. I'm using artificial sweeteners and I'm losing weight. Extra weight isn't healthy either - excess fat around your liver, more work for your heart, greater chance of diabetes, etc. Between…
  • I would give yourself more like 6 weeks before you work too hard, but you do burn a lot of extra calories by breastfeeding so if you eat reasonably healthy (which can be challenging with a new baby to take care of) you will probably find you lose some weight even without trying too hard. Then, once your milk supply is…
  • It's funny that your username is water weight too! :D Your scale will show more weight for a few days but you'll lose that water weight eventually if you just keep going.
  • I don't drink expensive sugary coffee drinks anymore, but I do have coffee.
  • I love quinoa but for some reason I'm afraid to make it. LOL
  • I decided to up my protein after a talk with the doctor as well, and I went the protein shake route. I don't know how else I would get that much protein in foods I like without adding a ton of calories.
  • I made potatoes tonight and they were huge. I did them for 25 minutes with a quick release, and they were still a bit hard in the middle! So I've learned something. I might have done a natural pressure release next time and I'll either do that again or just set it for more time from now on.
  • Poaching chicken breasts is a great idea!
  • I've been having protein shakes. I am so much less hungry when I get a lot of protein. I can't believe how much easier weight loss is since I've tried this. And there are lots of choices as far as protein shakes go - milk-based, vegan, organic, really whatever you want. And you don't have to go anywhere special to find…
  • I tried weight watchers years ago, but didn't like it. Though one problem I had back then was that fruit juice was fewer points than the corresponding fruit, for instance orange juice was fewer pointed than an orange. It appears they've corrected that kind of thing. It might be better now.
  • A good rule to life, particularly in relationships, is to assume the best intentions that could practically be true. Don't delude yourself into hoping for something that isn't reasonable or practical, but think about what practically could be reasonable intentions. He could be supportive but awkward, or he could have been…
  • I eat something safe first so I'm not that hungry.
  • I am also a Nicole who was a bean pole growing up. I was until I started having kids. I never learned good eating habits because I didn't need them when I was younger. I'm 20 years older than you are, though. :) You can do this. Just keep track of everything you eat. Eat more of the things that make you feel full so you…
  • I did it on the stove top this time, but I had enough time to do that. I think in the future I'll pop it in the pressure cooker.
  • My husband would love this! Thanks for posting :)
  • Treadmills are tricky if you wear your Fitbit on your wrist, because if you're holding onto the bar, then your wrist remains level and many of your steps aren't counted - like you'll jostle your wrist a bit here and there but it won't move like it does when you're usually walking. Put it in your pocket when you're on the…
  • Protein shakes make me very full so I don't want to eat as much. They're really helping me. But they might not affect everyone that way.
  • "Diet" is really a very useful words. Like, someone shows up with donuts and I say, "I think I'll pass - I'm on a diet." Now I could go into more detail about needing a calorie deficit and the donut not being tempting enough to use that many of my calories to eat it, but that's just silly when "I'm on a diet" works so well.
  • I just eat when I'm hungry. Sometimes 3, sometimes 4, sometimes 5, whatever. I just weigh and track whatever I have so I know how many more calories are available to me.
  • I'm hypo and have Hashimoto's. I was think until my thyroid went bad in my 30s. But it's under control now, thanks to modern medical science.
  • I cook the food and anyone is welcome to eat it who wants it. Otherwise they can take care of themselves. My husband loves what I cook though. Or at least he knows better than to complain! If your boyfriend does the cooking, then it's trickier. You would have to use portion control, or make something for yourself…
  • Mmmm I love curries and that is actually what I usually make in my pressure cooker! I have a cookbook called Madhur Jaffrey's Quick and Easy Indian Cookbook (or something like that) and it has some yummy recipes, many with pressure cooker instructions.

  • Oh wait! I realized that I said I'm 47 but I'm really only 46. :*
  • I went to my doctor to find out why I was so ridiculously hungry all the time, and he said he thought I wasn't eating enough protein and that I was worrying about fat too much, and that those things make many people feel full. I started adding protein powder to my smoothies, and lately I've been having protein shakes. I…
