  • That's hard on your body, you know. I personally don't think that ANY competition or prize is worth damaging your health for...even if it's "just this one time". And you regularly eat 5k sodium anyway? Unless you have naturally dangerously low BP, that's definitely not good for your health. I'm not supposed to be over 2k…
  • 2 might be okay. If you gain more than 2 in a few days, though, that's usually fluid retention. I have heart failure, so I have to weigh every day. If I gain a pound (oe more) overnight, I know it's just "water"... And then I have to take my diuretics, or I won't be able to breathe that night :/
  • My cardiologist and dietician both tell me I can have whatever I want, just be careful about sodium (because of my heart failure). Have you ever seen the sodium content in a restaurant meal? It's usually about half your daily RDI!
  • I have a hard time with this, too. Some ideas I've written down for afternoon and evening meals... Sandwich (PBJ, cold cuts, tuna salad, egg salad, grilled cheese) Cottage cheese and fruit (this is more a snack than a full meal) Pasta (mac/cheese, spaghetti, lasagna, chicken salad pasta, etc) Roast meat & potatoes Chicken,…
  • Oh my gosh, you guys... I knew eggnog had more calories than milk, but dayum! 150 in 8 oz whole milk 390 in 8 oz eggnog (store bought) I wish I could drink this stuff all year!
  • Yeah, I just got put on Metoprolol, and it's been helping a bit
  • No high fiber means no pasta, huh? Does white bread aggravate it? I get Dunford Bakery bread, and it's 100 calories per slice for the white kind. Other things I can think of are rice, bananas, mangos (200 calories for one!), potatos (take the skin off, eat mashed, that should reduce fiber). Hamburger isn't very heart…
  • You can get Boost Very High Calorie (530 calories in 8 ounces!) on Amazon. It's about $45 for a box of 27 drinks. It does NOT need a prescription :) In fact, my doctor wanted me to drink this. Because it's OTC, my insurance wouldn't pay for it, and I'm low income and can't afford $50+ on just drinks (already breaking my…
  • I assume you want to drink that much water to stay hydrated. And partly to help the bloating too. Could you try 100% fruit juice? I drink that and whole milk. Since I struggle so much to gain (or even maintain) weight, my cardiologist and dietician say anything that I swallow has to have calories. I do have soda pop ever…
  • I recently found out about hemp hearts... 180 calories for 3 tablespoons. They are about $10 per pound, but that's a good 14 servings or so. Cheaper than the protein powders, and they have 10g of protein! I haven't tried them yet, but when I get my kitchen cleaned and dishes washed this week, I plan on soaking them…
  • I did 2 Boost Plus every day for a while to gain weight. It's too rich/sweet for me, so I would dilute it with some milk (I would have a full serving (8 oz) of Boost, and 4+ ounces of milk). Butter Pecan was my favorite flavor. Depending on how you want to gain, Boost Plus has 350 calories... but Boost Very High Calorie…
  • Well, things are going okay... a couple of times in the last 2 weeks I got nauseated for a couple days and didn't eat much and skipped my pumping, so my weight is still hovering 74...give or take a pound. I've also been really tired, and sleep all day, so not eating as much. I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow, and plan to…
  • I think the wonderful position is the getting to have stuff like ice cream, pudding, smoothies, comfort food like mashed potatoes and pasta. I know when I tell people that I eat a lot of junk food (cheesecake, ice cream, donuts, etc.) to help me pack in calories, that they get jealous.
  • I used to use half and half in my diet shakes, but then found out that evaporated milk has more calories. So now I use 8 oz evaporated milk, 2 tbs peanut butter, 2 tbs olive oil, and whey protein powder, and up to half a cup of whole milk to thin it out a bit. 350 calories per cup, and it makes 3 cups. It's not too thick,…
  • Huh, weird...I don't like hummus if it's cold LOL
  • I have to be careful about salt, as I have heart failure. Nuts just don't seem to digest, and they probly don't do any good if they're just going straight through me. But nut butters are totally fine :) Oh, and Nutella! And hummus! There's non-perishable pudding cups, but they always taste weird...is it just me?
  • Water doesn't have any calories. The juice I drink has 150 calories, which helps more easily reach my 300+ goal for every time I eat. The juice is in individual bottles, which don't need refridgeration until opened...which is why I do that instead of milk when I'm out of the house for more than 2 hours.
  • I should totally rename the meals in my food diary to this! I just woke up from a nap, and gotta go eat...again. Ugh, it seems like that's all I ever do!
  • We should eat like Hobbits... Breakfast, Second Breakfast, Elevensies, Afternoon Tea, Dinner, Supper... LOL
  • Lately when people say they wish they had my problem (eat all day, whatever I want), I've started saying "You're welcome to take it from me, because I don't want it!"... that usually shuts them up. I also hate when people try to give me advice in what to eat to get more calories. For one thing, avocados and nuts are too…
  • [/quote] Yeah, I could never get the MFP alarms to work for me, either. Alarms on my phone are sometimes ignored LOL I'm getting better about eating, though... it's just so annoying to always have to stop whatever you're doing every 2 hours to get something to eat. Spending 15 minutes, 6 times a day, is like 2 hours of…
  • I'm going to do a few friend requests here :) My struggle is that with heart failure, I sleep a lot...10 hours during the night, and a couple 2 hour naps during the day. I skip meals because of this. I would like a few people to hold me more accountable and say "Hey! Do another snack tomorrow BEFORE your nap!" ;) In fact,…
  • Ha! That's nohin'. Boost: Very High Calorie has 530 calories per 8 oz. Of course it's also $40 for 27 servings (on Amazon).
  • If you get the full fat dairy, you wouldn't need too much. 4 ounces of whole milk has 75 calories. There's also high calorie drinks. 100% fruit juice has 100 - 150 depending on what kind you get. I know people say soda pop is bad, but it's also 100+ (Barq root beer is 160!). Carnation Breakfast Essentials is 130 if made…
  • Avocado, rice, pasta, bread/bakery treats, full fat dairy (cheese, yogurt, sour cream, ice cream), dried fruit (mango is high calorie!), olive oil
  • I was on the Depo birth control shot for years, everybody kept telling me it makes you gain 20 pounds... not me! I also got told that when I hit my 30s my metabolism would slow down and I'd gain weight easier... HA! I'm LOSING weight, and I'm almost 40 now, if I'm not careful about getting enough in me. The home health…
  • I'm 5'0". Never been over 90 lbs in my whole life (that's what I weighed in my prime, at 16 years old) My cardiologist doesn't want me to go above that, because too much body to support would put extra strain on my heart. But being under 75 (I am right now) also isn't good, because when I get sick THAT doesn't give me any…
  • I agree, to log everything. I was eating constantly, yet either barely maintaining, or starting to slowly lose. I decided to keep track, and I was never over 1200 a day... with my health issues, I need minimum of 1600. At first it's a little bit of a hassle to measure, weigh, and record everything, but after a while you'll…
  • Here are my suggestions First, talk to the people you share the fridge with, and tell them it's important that food YOU have bought/prepared is to stay yours. Dollar Tree has 3 packs of plastic containers...buy a few sets of these, and write your name on them with permanent marker (it will fade after a few washings, gotta…
  • My first thought was athlete... I've heard that depending on sports, like cycling or running, 5000 a day is average.
