  • @MissMay I stress bake. It's part of what caused my Covid 15. Right now I know I'm turning to sweets to deal with the lack of alcohol but I'm happy with the reduced cravings. I'm happy to send everybody a slice or here's the recipe: It's the Good Housekeeping Merryfield Apple Cake.…
  • I don't think I'm going to make it & that is bumming me out. :(
  • @Lilylady3k When you said your DH thought about buying half a dozen bottle of wine plus bourbon for your long weekend I can relate. It sounds like such a "normal" amount, what we'd buy for a long weekend, 2+ bottles per night plus beer for DH but in reality it's a great deal of alcohol. I'm really hoping that this break…
  • Proud of myself. DH went out to get more non alcoholic beer. Although I thought about it, I didn't ask him to get me wine. Another AF night for us! @HerNameIsMischief try having 1 less, just 1. Another good way to cut down is have 1 bottle of water between every alcoholic drink...1 beer, 1 water. You'll feel full with less…
  • My husband is a beer lover. He's doing Dry January to appease me but he enjoying his AF beers. Most big brewers / labels make them from Heineken & Becks to Coors Cutter & the new Bud Zero. Another friend of mine started drinking them when she rejoined our social circle after joining AA & getting 6 months sober under her…
  • OMG @SkinnyGirlCarrie -- I must have hit the done button 3x before my last post. At first I couldn't even figure out what I did wrong. @CMB44512 invite that buddy over more often to drink coffee with you on weekdays. He may help / inspire you. We invited a neighbor over for dinner last night. She usually shows up with a…
  • Stop the binge & starve. Learn about portions. Work whatever it is into allotted calories. I lost weight & still ate "bad" things like potato chips & sweets, just in smaller amounts
  • SW: 168.4 GW: 140 1/13 167.8 1/18 165.8 1/25 2/1 2/8 2/12* Going in the right direction at least. I need to be below 159 for my BMI to stop being "obese". * we're going away to an AirBnB for Valentine's Day so that Friday will be the last day I can weigh myself.
  • What you eat is among the few things you can control. When it's all spinning out of control, I focus on that. (It has its downsides because I am anorexic & control not just weight / not eating is part of that)
  • I got support & accountability from an unexpected source this weekend: my husband. I kind of roped him into doing dry January with me. There's just no way I could stop if he was still drinking. He's my worst trigger. We'd have a drink with dinner, then sit there talking until the bottle of wine was finished or worse, we'd…
  • For me one of the best motivators is that I can eat more when I exercise
  • I try to log as I consume but will enter later if that wasn't possible
  • Pandemic has been part of the problem. We got into the very bad habit of drinking every night. I didn't give in last night but I did eat a dozen Hershey's kisses. 🥺. Still that's probably fewer calories than if I drank. Managed to take the dog for a walk this morning. That's something
  • Have something small that you enjoy. I'll take the smack but the walk might help
  • Every time you think you're hungry drink a glass of water instead. If you can't down a whole glass, start with a half. Also always drink water before a meal

  • @MissMay I needed to read that but it's Friday night here & I'm feeling weak. Seriously thinking about going out to buy a bottle of wine. I suppose that's better than having cases in the house. 😟
  • Although I'm the shortest person in my family at 5'7" I don't think most people will classify me as short. Stepped on the scale today & I'm down 1.6 pounds. Yipee! I'm starting to believe that 10 pounds by Valentine's day is possible.
  • Still staying AF. Wondering if I will be able to keep it up through Valentine's weekend when we are slated to meet up with my college roommate then go on to see DH's brother. I knew about portions & people's common misperception that one container / glass of an alcoholic drink equaled one drink without considering the type…
  • It's loose enough that it slides around & the skin underneath is normal, no bumps, hives, bruises, redness. The arm just feels weird. Yes, I get the same sensation if I wear it on the other arm.
  • Can I get in on this? SW: 168.4 GW: 140 CW: 167.8 Nothing fits right now. Ugh
  • Hi I'm late to this thread. I've been trying for Dry January. We finished the last bottle of champagne on New Year's Day. There is no alcohol in the house. If it was there I know I would have caved already, especially with the state of the world. It's so depressing. I'm disheartened by my lack of weight loss, though. Food…
  • I never figured it out. In my head I just gave myself about another 100 calories each day
  • Have you given up the beers? One of the reasons that weight loss regimes encourage you to drink more water is that the liquid contributes to the feelings of being full. If you are drinking a lot of beer, then you feel full even though you have consumed fewer & better food calaories. Yes, a calorie is a calorie is a calorie…
  • Thank you all so much for being supportive! I was expecting to come back to this thread -- which I have been avoiding -- to be bashed for not working hard enough. I put my fitbit back on but it's more of a slug bit, telling me how little I move. I am trying to walk every day but that doesn't always happen. I live in a HIGH…

  • I keep some kind of bar on hand. My favorites are from the Fiber One brand because I always struggle with getting enough fiber & some of their stuff tastes more like a bad for you treat then a diet food. You have to really look at the box though; not all of them are 90 calories like the brownies which are my favorite.

  • For me when I started & was always hungry 3 things helped a lot. 1. Drink more water. When you feel hungry drink a glass of water before you eat anything. 2. Eat more often. I built in a mid morning snack & an afternoon to combat the hungry feelings. So I'd eat breakfast then have a mid morning high protein yogurt. I'd eat…
  • Do some arm exercises. Sit on a kitchen chair & repeatedly lift a bottle of laundry detergent. Do some seated yoga / stretching.
  • I never did the yoyo thing until now. My metabolism slowed when I hot 40 but my eating & drinking habits didn't. I dropped weight in anticipation of my 50 birthday & met my goal but the weight came back, when I failed to regulate all the calories I drink. I may have to recognize that the weight I am now is my new normal…
  • Skipping makes things worse for me. I'm ravenous when I get home & end up eating cheese & crackers before dinner. What helps me (when I'm good) is grazing & drinking a lot of water. When I feel hungry I try to drink a bottle of water before reaching for food. Sometimes that does the trick. I'll have a small breakfast (7…
