  • Whether I set the loss goal to 2 pounds or 1 pound MFP still comes back to 1200 calories. When I first started MFP & was starving I did change my loss goals only the recommended calories didn't change so I learned to eat less. Food was never my problem. Of course there will be days when I'm way over, at a party or…
  • Pay attention to portions. I ate chips & candy while still losing weight. You just have to remember that a portion of chips is 10 -12 chips. Count them out on a plate. Put the bag away. Never eat from the bag. Eat them very slowly. I had to play games with myself some times: have a chip taking very small bites, wait one…
  • I had a goal to have a bikini & social media body for my 50th birthday. I almost made it. I did wear the bikini on my birthday but I disallowed photos.
  • The tonic will kill your calorie intake. Stick to soda. Also try 1 drink, 1 pint of water. You are there & social. The water helps keep you full & more sober. Do what the super models do -- eat ridiculously little portions of the bad stuff. For example they will split a cheese burger among 4 people. Your mouth is happy but…
  • Movement in a pool, not necessarily swimming. MY 72 year old MIL & her octogenarian friends who live in a warm climate meet every morning & do a water based exercise routine. Most don't push themselves but they do move. I have done the routine with them & really give it my all. When it says kick your leg, many move in a…
  • I too try the cold turkey route. For me it's hard sometimes because that morning soda was my morning caffeine. Having the ever present bottle of water helped. I have also started to experiment with various teas. I just had a hot cup of peach tea. I feel like I got my "sweet" but at no calories.
  • Keeping it out of the house helped me. I tend to drink more because it's there. So when it's not there it's easier to be good.
  • You can eat SOME of the bad stuff. 1 donut or little debbie a week isn't that terrible, especially if you fit it into your calorie count. Eating several is a problem. Learn more about portions & self control. It's hard because some stuff is so tasty, we eat mindlessly. Last year when I was being "good" I still ate the bad…
  • Booze is my calorie downfall.. This time of year is particularly difficult. All that holiday cheer. Support from people who understand this struggle would be awesome.

  • I need more than desire I need action steps
  • I'm newly back too but with more superficial goals. I am generally trying to incorporate self discipline into my entire life for the 1st time.
  • Planning is a must if you want to avoid it. Nobody loves the taste because face it, fast food isn't about gourmet dining. It's about convenience. So if I have healthier options in the car with me, I can skip it. I try to pack an insulated lunch bag or at least have some string cheese, or a Fiber One bar & extra water with…
  • In winter we eat a lot of soup. It's easy to put some in Tupperware. A yogurt & some fresh fruit can tied me over.
  • Mine is open but it's often an exercise in what not to do. I get more help with meal planning by simply searching for healthy low cal recipes on line. I also bought several cook books.
  • I was going to say the same things as rainbowbow. Try not to eat back all the calories. Especially on nice days, pack the 2 year old into a stroller & go for a walk. Also physically play with your child . . .a game of tag, swinging on a swing, playing with a ball. Get your body moving.
  • It depends on what you do after you lose the weight. Once you are there, that is not license to eat all sorts of calorie laden things, ignore portion control & go back to sitting on the couch stuffing your face. You can still have cake on your birthday just eat a small piece. Stick to properly sized food other times &…
  • Your body knows how many calories you took in & how many you expended in any given day. As long as the calories you take in are less than the calories you take in, you will lose weight. You need a certain amount of calories to simply exist -- to pump your heart, to breath, to think etc
  • I found that it passed. I was at 158 & wanted to get down to 135; for my height, weight & sedentary lifestyle whether I set it for 1 or 2 pounds of weight loss I only got 1200 calories. At first I was starving all the time. I learned to drink a bottle of water before I ate anything. Sometimes that helped. In the beginning…
  • I never did the juggling act you are doing but as a working woman, I can assure you that your crock pot & casseroles are your friends. Find healthy low cal recopies & make large quantities.
  • I always gave myself the weekends off. For me that meant drinking alcohol -- lots of empty calories & no nutrition, not to mention the bad judgment that comes when you get drunk munchies. Sadly, weight loss (& for me nutrition) is something that you have to pay attention to. I also realized there was something to be said…
  • I would not stay in one by myself. Read the reviews & the property description carefully. Use another search feature like Google earth to view the property in advance. Have a "discussion" with the owner before you commit. After "talking" to some of the owners I knew their properties would not work for me. Know the…
  • My immediate concern is convincing my husband not to get me a heart shaped box of chocolate. I don't need the temptation.
  • It does let you close your dairy for the day. You just don't get a message that shows up in your feed & it doesn't tell you what your weight would be in 5 weeks. If you are under every so often because you just didn't feel like eating, which happens to me some times, don't worry about it. If you think well eating 1200 is…
  • Click once on the person's name. A new window pops up. Inside that window click on their name again. This time you will get a green button that says Add As a Friend. Click that & the system will send a friend request to the person who can accept or reject. I sent you both friend requests but understand I don't really know…
  • I quit cold turkey for a while. Between July & October I managed to just have 2 sodas when I had been drinking 3-4 per day. The best thing I did for myself was get them out of my house. If they weren't convenient, it was easier not to have them. I slipped back & now have 2-3 per week but I try to work them into my…
  • Pay attention to portions. I usually ate chips when I was bored. 1 serving equals about 11-12 chips. I dutifully count them out onto a plate then eat them very S L O W L Y because I know that is all I am going to get. I got my boredom junk food craving without completely destroying my calorie intake. I also learned to eat…
  • I quit cold turkey. Had been drinking 3-5 cans of regular Pepsi per day. :o Over the years I'd give it up for Lent just to prove I could. It was always hard & Easter morning I would head straight for a soda. The headaches as I got through the caffeine withdrawal were quite painful. Get it out of your house as a 1st step.…
  • You are not alone. Around 40 your metabolism changes too. I read somewhere that what you used to do to lose weight at 40 you have to do just to maintain. You can & will do this. Hang in there.
  • Hi -- I'm slightly :p older than you but you & I are roughly the same size (or at least I was when I started). My goal given my age is a bit more modest. I was 158 in July hoping to get to 135. My sugar addiction is in the form of sugared soda. I was drinking several Pepsi's per day. I went cold turkey, mostly. I had 2…
