College was a long time ago for me. I went to a big school with a huge campus. We walked everywhere so weight loss was almost automatic, despite the high carb diet, the late night snacking & all the partying. So up the amount of walking you do. Take the stairs as much as possible. Park as far away from class as you safely…

I don't have that much to lose. My diary is open but it's more an exercise in what not to do. You're still welcome to look.

Plain grilled meats & steamed veggies. I have learned to add cauliflower to make lower calorie mashed potatoes. All the creaminess waaaayyy fewer calories. I have also discovered Fiber One brownies. 90 calories, very chocolatey & a big plus / need for me, 5 g of fiber.

Everybody has to start somewhere. But right now you have unrealistic expectations. That could cause you to become disheartened. You can probably lose 30 pounds in 3.5 months but probably not 2. What happens at the end of February that has you in an all fired hurry?

Next time you feel hungry, drink a glass of water. If you are still hungry after that, eat something healthy & low calorie like an apple or some carrots.

Mindful, slow eating is required. Good self talk helps. You see the plate of food before you that is properly portioned control & before you start eating, you say to yourself you will be full when the meal is over. Planning small, filling, low calorie snacks, that you can eat during the day. I found I did better on 5 meals…

I'm right there with you. I gained about 4 pounds since Thanksgiving. I ate & drank everything, logged nothing & rarely exercised. Try to remember this journey is not linear. It's a small set back. The holidays are over. You are back on track. Forward ho. We can do this.

I want in. I have 10 weeks until my 50th birthday & a goal to lose 10 more pounds & tone up so I look good in a bikini. I never had a problem with my weight. I was about 125 my whole life until I hit 40, then the pounds started creeping up. My 45 I was pushing 160 & miserable. I hadn't changed my lifestyle too much so the…

I missed chocolate so I added a fiber one brownie every so often. I get dessert, only 90 calories & 5 g of fiber.

I've only been around for 6 months & my goals were much more modest but feel to add me as a friend. I sent you a friend request. Your goal translates to losing 10 pounds per month. At your weight that is plausible but ambitious. MFP recommends 2 pounds per week. Did you set your system to know what your calories ought to…

Eating is rarely my problem although I'm bound to over do the stuffing. I know ALL of my empty calories are going to come from liquids. That's where my control fails. I posted the Q more as a general discussion because Thanksgiving is such a gluttonous food holiday.

My ideal / reach goal is to lose 3 pounds by Christmas & be back into the lower bracket but my more realistic goal is to simply not gain. It's a holiday party month filled with cocktails & dessert. I'm not going to be miserable because I deprived myself. I'm only 8 pounds from my final goal which I set last July; I wanted…

Reigning in your eating is the first and best step. I haven't exercised in 1.5 months but still managed to lose weight by not overeating. It's both harder & easier then you think. If you are not already doing so track your food here on MFP. Do walk. 20 minutes is a good start. Every little bit helps. Stet a goal that you…

I simply ran out of hours in the day. My husband is away on business this week so I'm hoping that restarts my mojo. Also we walked 2.3 miles yesterday & it was tough. I know I'm supposed to go on a 5 mile hike over Christmas week so I have some catching up to do.

Portion control is key. I also suggest you bring something you can eat. A pretty veggie platter is a nice offering. Drink A LOT of water at the event. When someone says why aren't you eating? Say I'm not hungry. If they persist ask an equally rude question back, such as why are you pigging out? When they get offended…

What do you want to say? It seems the discomfort is more on you, not the friend. She's just making conversation. If you can't be candid with her, what does that say about your friendship. If she's close enough to ask, she ought to be a good enough, non-judgmental friend that you can tell her the truth. If she's not a good…

Just pay attention to portion control. After eating smaller portions this entire time you will be shocked at how little you may want to eat. Try to get some exercise while you are away. Dance a lot at the wedding. Take a stroll around the old neighborhood. Enjoy!

I agree with the suggestion that you use the pool. You get more burn for your buck too.

Follow every drink with a pint of water. It slows down your drinking, keeps some calories in check but allows you to continue to have fun. The next day have a banana. Seriously. Best hangover food ever because you need the potassium. Also try a smoothie. If my head hurts too much to tolerate the sound of the blender I grab…

Meal planning helps a lot with better choices. If you have a bag of carrots & celery sticks in your backpack you are less likely to dive into the plate of cookies at the student center with all of your friends. If you want the "cheat" feel without the calories opt for a bar of sorts. I am a big fan of Fiber One brownies…

Block the naysayer. It's an internet message board, not your life. Some random poster is irrelevant. You know you need to eat better. Having somebody else tell you that isn't really helpful, unless you asked meaning you don't know where you went wrong. But you know what happened. You know you weren't always faithful to…

The articles I initially quoted were main stream references to scientific articles, digested down to sound bites. I never said Dr. Oz was the be all end all; he's an entertainer. That said. Here's a link to an article in the Yale Journal of Biology & Medicine:…

We like our outside grill & our foreman grill when we can't go out. You can get a lot of flavor without extra calories.

Here's a sampling of articles about diet soda & weight. I have no idea what scientific methods if any the authors used to reach their conclusions. http://drhyman.com/blog/2013/02/15/how-diet-soda-makes-you-fat-and-other-food-and-diet-industry-secrets/ http://www.rd.com/health/diet-weight-loss/is-diet-soda-making-you-fat/…

A handful? My TDEE was 1600 & my weight loss was 1200. 400 calories seems like more than a handful to me.
-
Even the diet stuff will sabotage weight loss. I love regular Pepsi. I had one today but that's a far cry from the 5-6 I used to drink. Cut down as much as you can. Think about what filling food you could have for all of those calories & drink more water. My pounds didn't start coming off until I gave up the soda

I agree that making an announcement is NOT the way to go.

When it comes to relationships your weight isn't as important as your self esteem (which seems to have taken a hit). You need to be in a good place emotionally to start a healthy relationship. If you don't think you're good enough for him you will unconsciously telegraph that during your interactions & you won't get the…

Don't start with the big scary class. Do some work on your own first. Walk around your block. Do some calisthenics at home. I'm a pretty strong person emotionally but the thought of an exercise class scares the begeesus out of me. I joined the Y last year & thought, oh the Y is a nice family oriented group with friendly…

This app makes it easier than you think. Eat whatever you want. Yes, I'm serious. The app is going to teach you about portion control. It's mind blowing. For example, did you know one brick of Raman noodles is actually 2 servings? I think that's ridiculous because who eats 1/2 a package of Raman? But you learn a LOT by…
