Moderation, all things in moderation. I personally use sugar cane sugar from Hawaii. I won't eat cane sugar from Central America though. In the past 20 years, 20,000 sugar cane workers in Nicaragua and El Salvador have died of kidney failure. The vast majority are workers bringing in the harvest. So if harvesting the sugar…

Yes its more than ok. I can't eat gluten (celiac disease). When I was first diagnosed in 2008, I didn't have a clue as to what was gluten or not. For 6 months I was terrified of eating, so I only ate vegetables and fruit. In 4 months I lost 35 lbs....that was the beginning of my 70+ lbs weight loss.

Joshperson195. Yes sweet is subjective. But I appreciate your input on the vanilla. I love ice cream--my favorite dessert which I've pretty much cut from my diet. So I'll be thrilled to find a delicious substitute.

It's a deviation of ascending pyramid training. I use a reverse pyramid for deadlifts. It's designed to fatigue the muscle for faster growth and strength. It's very common with body builders

I currently ride a Cannondale; two bikes prior were both Treks. Terrain: since you specifically asked about a road bike, I assume you want to ride pavement. Budget--bikes range from a few hundred to thousands. So set a budget that includes cost for bike, helmet, lock Woman specific bike: women's bike frames are smaller…

Just bought the Chocolate Mocha Chip--that stevia makes it way too sweet for my taste. Texture is more like ice milk than ice cream. Is the vanilla overly sweet?

I never buy a shoe that is recommend by anyone--that means the shoe salesman, best friend, spouse. Fit and comfort is unique to the individual. The shoe that works for the salesman, doesn't necessarily work for the customer. Always keep in mind that profit margin is the basis for nearly all shoe recommendations--the store…

It was my cellulite covered glutes that made me realize my hiatus from the gym and running was destroying my body. Forty-five days ago I started on a serious journey to reclaim my body. Returned to my nutritional way of eating; hit the gym; started running again. There's already marked improvement in the look of my…

Second on Bret Contreras & Kelli Davis' Strong Curvers A Women's Guide to Building a Better Butt and Body Contreras is known as the "Glute Guy" for good reason--his approach works. He has an enormous amount of free information on his website. You can actually create a routine based on the information he posts. I've gotten…

I think it's a southern way of life. I grew up on the west coast and we eat very differently here. For some 8 yrs I lived in Virginia and found the style of eating very rich and heavy. Weight was never an issue for me until I moved to the south. Despite running and going to the gym, I gained more than 70 pounds living…

Im with you--so done with Whole Foods. I'm really hating WF produce. It's a crock that their produce is better. This spring alone I wasted money on mangos, pears, grapes, tomatoes, blueberries, and beets that were either tasteless, mealy, brown or rotten inside. A few months ago I bought a juicer because WF charges…

I had the same issue. But then I switched to steel cut. I cook it al dente cuz I like it chewy. It hold me until 2 pm easily.

Side stitches. It's a running phenomena that scientist don't full understand other than its a diaphragm spasm. Since the diaphragm works hard during running, it's thought by some to be caused when the diaphragm muscles fatigue. It's a plague on runners. Stop, take deep controlled breaths. Some people say massage the area…

Welll...you can change your perspective then go for it! Since a sprint is technically 400m or less, think of a 750m swim, 20k cycle, and 5k as marathons--then just go for it and tell yourself your marathon times were PHENOMENAL! BTW--meeting any commitment is character to be admired.

My ex was passive/aggressive in the beginning, then outright rejected me when I lost 70 + pounds. Things came to a head when we were at a college bowl game and the man sitting behind me made a lot of comments about my body. My husband almost lost it when the guy pulled out a video camera and asked if he could get shots of…

For pec size and strength, use resistance bands with a flat bench press. Bodybuilders I know use bands from either Rouge or Elitefts. For some years it was thought to be Bro Science, but legit studies found adding resistance band works. Depending on what you press, and where from 20-40 lbs of resistance at the top of your…

Weight is deceiving...In 44 days, I'm only down 10 lbs, but I've lost inches. Inches lost 2 1/2" waist 1" thighs 2 1/4" hips. I weigh and measure weekly, but pay more attention to measurements than weight.

I'm sorry to hear about your crash. I understand your worry. At the beginning of the year I came off a long hiatus. I had just upped my run mileage when I was kicked by a horse in the right thigh. I was out of commission for 6 weeks. I've only been exercising again for 44 days. During my rehab I keep reviewing and revising…

The information they gave you will help in selecting a shoe. Here's what that info means... Pronation: what it is and shoe design * Neutral: foot rolls inward slightly from the outer edge of the heel to the big toe. * Over-pronation: foot rolls excessively inward from the heel to midfoot * Moderate pronation: foot rolls…

Interesting...question made me realize technically, I don't take rest days. I perform glute activation exercises every day. Mon - Friday I do strength training, run training, and run. On weekends, just for fun, I usually hike or cycle. Some times kayak. As an adult, I've never been a television watcher (don't even own a…

Since your knee issue stems from a medical problem, you really should have your doctor determine if exercise is even advisable, and if so, refer you to a qualified physical therapist. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition. Certain movements, force, and impact will aggravate the already eroded cartilage. Rheumatoid…

I'd recommend research and work on glute strengthening as a place to start. Weak glutes result in pain and injury. A strong gluteus medius is especially important as it controls the hip with each stride. When I tore my IT Band, my sports medicine doctor & PT said it was a result of a weak gluteus medius. Walk/run cycles as…

Foot position depends on individual anatomy and hip rotation. I've always squated with a slight foot flare. My son, a powerlifter and trainer, who squats like 500 lbs, doesn't use a neutral foot position either. Bret Contreas wrote a good article on creating torque in deadlift and squats. In the post he addresses squat…
