  • Are you eating back your exercise calories? When I ate back all of mine, I actually gained weight. Now I eat back half of them and I am losing weight. Also, are you sure you're eating in a deficit? Are you weighing your food?
  • A calorie deficit is the only way to burn body fat. It doesn't matter if it comes from exercise or reducing what you eat. It also doesn't matter what type of exercise you do.
  • I have the same problem. Three things that are helping me. 1. Practice makes permanent. I have had to shift my thinking from trying to achieve the perfect BMI to setting better habits. 2. Weight management is a skill that I am learning. For a long time the whole thing mystified me. It seemed magical but it isn't. It's…
  • Thank you! I think I need to slow down.

  • I am getting back into running after 30 years. I am training on the treadmill. Everyone keeps saying to run really slow. Is 4.5mph too fast? I alternate with walking. I am a really slow walker too so each time I increase my walking speed by 0.1mph. I'm up to 3.5mph walking. I hope that, theoretically, sometime in the…

  • You could also try switching up your macros. Maybe higher carb and lower fat. I try to only eat 15% fat because that's when I feel best.
  • I used 4:3 to lose some weight. I found that what worked best for me was to eat dinner only on fast day. That made it easier to stick with the 500 calorie limit. On fast day, you should not eat back your exercise calories. The idea is to 500 or 550 calories only. I used to exercise right before dinner on those days so that…

  • For me, it isn't about thinking it's sustainable. I tried it and I have tried eating high carb low fat. When I switched to high carb low fat, my depression went into remission after almost 40 years of struggle including one hospitalization. My insomnia went away. My menopause issues went away. My cholesterol dropped from…
  • I gain weight when I try to eat low carb along with a host of other health problems that crop up. I now eat high carb and low fat but in a calorie deficit. I am also exercising a lot. I have only lost five pounds on the scale but I am dropping inches like crazy and I am down from a size 14 to a 12. That's just me. You will…
  • That is what works for you and that's great. If I eat lower carb and higher fat, I end up with precancer on my esophagus that takes over two years to heal, major depression, high cholesterol, insomnia, and a host of other health issues. The point is that there is a wide variety of macros that work for a wide variety of…

  • Agree. One of the earlier posters said he was hungry because carbs make you hungry. That's not true for everyone. That was my point.
  • You would need to eat 1041 to lose a pound a week but you should never eat less than 1200. You will lose just at a slower pace which, I am told, is better when you have so little to lose. You could go up to 1291 and lose a half a pound a week.
  • Macros are irrelevant. I eat HCLF as in up to 70% carbs, 15% fat, 15% protein. I am losing more weight than I planned because I simply don't have the appetite to eat all of my calories. Before someone woos me, for the record, since I started eating this way, my cholesterol has dropped from 210-220 to 132. My fasting…
  • I monitor calories, protein, fat, and fiber. I eat HCLF so I need to make sure my fat is low enough. Protein I struggle to get enough. And I watch fiber instead of carbs to encourage me to eat whole grains instead of junk.
  • I'm on Team Splenda here. I used to be an "all-natural must be better" person until I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. That's when I learned that those herbal remedies sure are cute and comforting but they can't do heavy lifting. That and the multiple times they jacked up my liver enzymes. Safe, my *kitten*. Give…
  • IF can work great. It doesn't work for me. I have a very sensitive system and it's too stressful for my body. I like to graze. I am losing weight and I feel good. That's the best method - the one that works and you feel good.
  • I eat quinoa regularly. I don't know what it should work for??? I know it fills my belly, helps me hit my fiber target and my protein target.
  • I weigh daily and use a weekly average to compute my loss for the week. That evens out the scale fluctuations and gives me a more accurate picture.

  • I want to be smoking hot and pose as a pin-up holding knitting with a caption that says, "Grandma and her knitting." When I was younger I thought pin-ups were terrible. I guess turning 50 changes you. LOL
  • Strength training is so important for other health benefits too. There are minimalist programs that you can do in as little as a half hour twice a week. I used to do a barbell routine that was just squats, bench press, bent over row, shoulder press, and pull ups.
  • Mine used to be in the 210-220 range. My doctor wanted to put me on statins because I am at high risk for heart disease. I eliminated butter and eggs. I cut way back on red meat and switched to a high carb low fat diet. I just had my annual a few weeks ago. My total cholesterol is down to 132. My fasting glucose is down…

  • When I am outside I listen to nature. When I am using the treadmill, I listen to my Piano Guys station on Pandora. When I am using the elliptical or lifting weights, I listen to old school hip hop on Pandora. Pump Up The Volume, etc. Especially when I am reverse direction on the elliptical. It takes me back to roller…
  • I thought I read online that most women will only gain 10-15 pounds of muscle so it's not even an oreo.
  • Hello Ladies. Newbie here. I'm Liz from northern Wisconsin. I love living in the woods. My woods are my happy place. I just turned 50 in February. I have to say, I have been surprised at how much it has empowered me. For the first time in my life, I really don't care what other people think anymore. It's so liberating.…
  • You can get a cheap pair of bike shorts from Amazon. That's what I did. Well worth it. I will buy a good pair when I am at my goal size.
  • On the app, on your diary, at the bottom of the page is a Nutrition box. If you click that and then the calories button, you can change it to weekly view and net calories. It will tell you exactly how many calories over or under you are for the last seven days.
  • I chose to use MFP plus exercise because if I miss a workout or two, I will be overeating if I use TDEE. This way I have to earn those calories.
  • I recently went through this. For me it was a reaction to a specific food. I used to get awful bowel cramps. They stopped about two years ago and then started up again a month ago. It took me a couple weeks to figure out that it was eggs. I cut them when I went HCLF and just tried adding them back in. Turns out I am…
  • Maybe you would do better with weekly calorie goals instead of daily. You can eat less during the week and more on the weekend but still stay in your overall calorie budget. Make it part of your plan so that it is sustainable for the long haul.
