@myallforjcbill - I didn't realize you were struggling so much with your back. Bummer, truly. I'm right there with you in the "never could figure out weight loss without getting any activity" club. I definitely have more activity discipline than refrigerator/pantry discipline.

@rachel0778 - DW and I both hate to clean. You know what made a surprisingly huge difference for us (with 3 pets)? A Roomba 980. We looked at what we'd pay for a regular cleaning service and put the money into the robot instead. We still have to dust, but the floors have never been better.

>What's a problem you are currently dealing with? Big problem, little problem, any problem. Work-related stress (is that non-specific enough?) + I'm not able to work out the way I'd like because of my hip. I'm not dealing with it well, frankly. I strung a few weeks together with small losses in Oct and early Nov, but have…

>On the flip side, what makes you grinchy? It starts way too soon and lasts way to long, to the point that any special feelings about the Christmas/NewYears season are beaten into submission. If your special season is 10% of the calendar year, you don't really have a special season. Also, get off my lawn. ;-)

I need to get mini goals back into my repertoire. I've had success in the past when I've set small, thoughtful weekly fitness and weight loss goals.

I live in (take it with a grain of salt) America's Fittest City. Does it matter? Probably, to some degree. It certainly doesn't hurt. When all is said and done, though, it's a matter of personal choice. The bike and ski trails, fitness centers, and other amenities are lovely, and it's easy to find healthy food choices. The…

I'm too far removed from counting points to have anything meaningful to say. I'm a little tempted to stick my toe back in that water, but honestly I really feel like I should be able to lose weight while tracking calories instead of counting points.

Oddly enough, my excuse for forgetting to post yesterday was that I was in Fargo, ND for business. Too many things on my mind, I guess. Apropos to nothing, I saw a tumbleweed blow by outside my meeting room. Cold, wind, and actual tumbleweeds will be my lasting memory of North Dakota.

< -- huge loser. Holy smokes. I just now realized I forgot to start the LTL thread yesterday.

Awesome. That was fun. Thank you!

>What role do habits play in your healthy lifestyle? Do you cultivate and nurture specific habits? Or, do they "just happen?" Good question, and a good reminder. Nothing hard ever "just happens" for anyone. I got a good comeuppance about that way back when from a senior attorney/mentor at my old firm, and I came to greatly…

No surprise, except as noted by the lead researcher: “The heart rate measurements performed far better than we expected,” said Ashley, “but the energy expenditure measures were way off the mark. The magnitude of just how bad they were surprised me.” Add this to the list of reasons to never eat your activity points/exercise…

I can easily find out *how* reduced fat dairy products are made, but am not quick to find what happens to the residual fat. How Skim Milk Is Made So how is skim milk made? Traditionally, the fat was removed naturally from milk due to gravity. If fresh milk is left to sit and settle, the cream — which is where most of the…

Given that there are no fat-free or low-fat cows, where does the all the fat removed from all those reduced fat dairy products go? Reminds me of the famous Boneless Chicken Ranch.

I wasn't sure anyone would notice. Thank you.
