I am also doing SL 5x5, in to my 6th week now. Starting BW was 312, down to 286 today, eating better and doing intermittent fasting 16/8. Seeing great progress in strength, endurance and weight loss. 5'8 male.

I'm with you on the high pull (wider grip), seems to eliminate (for me at least) the risk of putting my shoulders in a dangerous position. As has been mentioned, depends on OP's goals. I also am doing 16/8 IF. Down 15 lbs so far, eating between 12 and 8pm. It fits my lifestyle and makes me focus on calories in/out. I workout between my 2 big meals (again, lifestyle) and don't deprive myself of too much, as long as it fits my caloric goals. The only thing that I have "cut out" is fast food, I'm a junkie!…
