  • I don't think there is a way to figure that accurately since there are too many variables. For example, are you mowing a flat yard or a hill, are you using a self propelled mower, how much time does it take, etc. My suggestion is just have a cold beer afterwards and call it even.
  • I don't particularly enjoy working out nor do I dislike it, but I do it every day because I like the results. My workouts vary from 30-60 minutes depending on if I'm doing a video, running, or lifting. I'm a morning person so it's not hard being motivated to get out of bed and exercise. I'm very consistent with my workouts…
  • I know my local library has several of the more common DVD's that you can check out. I'd recommend going that way and finding a few you like and then buying them.
  • I generally stay away from processed carbs during the week but am looser on food choices during the weekends. I have no problems eating a small baked potato or having a piece of fruit, and I love veggies. I am a lot less hungry eating meats, dairy, fruits, and veggies than when I eat processed carbs.
  • I was able to do 5 with my kid on my back two years ago, but then he grew. He was about 50 lbs at the time. Now he's almost 90 lbs and I can't do any with him. I might have to get one of those weight belts and try them again.
  • I did it a couple years ago with my ex-wife back when we were married. I found it boring to do the same video everyday for a week. I don't have before/after pics but I think we each may have lost about two pounds during that month with healthy eating. You'll be very sore for the first week, so drink plenty of water and try…
  • I've done other beach body videos including P90X and P90X3. Don't expect to get results like the infomercials, but any exercise program with proper diet/nutrition and you'll make some gains. I use the videos as an addition to my normal weight lifting/running and am able to get decent results that way. I'd do body beast if…
  • Lately, I've been doing both (2 workouts/day) to try to reach a short term fitness goal. But in general I'm a 5 AM workout person. Those days when I get up at 5 and don't want to exercise I just tell myself that the hardest part of the morning workout is the first step out of bed. Once I'm up and put on my workout clothes…
  • I love my pull up bar/dip station. If you don't have much upper body strength you'll need a pullup assist band or a chair.
  • I did the original P90X over the summer. It was a decent workout. I dropped about five pounds of fat and got some slightly bigger arms doing it.
  • I'm on week 4 on P90X3 mass. I've done it a few times before and the original P90X. I'm just using it to fill in some gaps in my workouts. It's my favorite video series, but I don't get much in the way of noticeable gains doing it because I'm already pretty lean.
  • Have you checked into used equipment? My entire gym was $350 and is mostly good condition used equipment. If you started small instead of building a whole gym you could get by with a fraction of that cost. My employee bought a used weight bench with squat rack, Olympic bar, curl bar, and 250 lbs of plates for $80 last…
  • Shin splints???
  • I got my bench press, weights, pull up bar, and treadmill used (my basement gym is my profile pic). My total equipment cost was about $350 for an entire basement gym and I do the 5X5 stronglifts there among other things. Lots of used equipment will pop up on craigslist and the local yard sales. You just have to be quick to…
  • I've did P90X last summer. It is a decent workout but don't expect progress near what the ads show. I think I dropped 3 lbs and got more defined abs and arms doing it. I definitely felt stronger and could do more pushups and pullups after it was done. I don't think it's that bad, just work to whatever your fitness level is…

  • I posted a thread on here about the same thing a couple months ago. Basically, it took me over a month of stretching after a really good warmup to be able to get into a good squat. The stretches that worked the best for my hip and ankle flexibility was squatting with my back against the wall, and squatting holding onto a…
  • My motivation is my alarm clock. It goes off and then I'm sitting there thinking I really should work out. I'm also a single guy and like being in shape because it's not fair to expect fitness from a woman if I'm not taking care of myself.
  • I do squats with my bench setup all the time. Just put the bar on the highest position so you can get under it and pick it up, then take a step backwards and do your squats.
  • Since Siberia is part of Russia, I'd go with a nice vodka based name like Skyy. Can you tell it's Friday and I'm thinking about a post work cocktail?
  • Body weight exercises like pushup and pullups being difficult is do to the strength vs weight ratio. You either need more upper body strength or less body weight to move around. Try focusing on your diet and continued weight loss since that goes a lot quicker than gaining an equivalent amount of strength. You've been…
  • Ever consider a prison pen pal?
  • She knows me well enough to do it, but I sure wouldn't want her to. Heck, I wouldn't even want her to attend.
  • While it might be true that some women sacrifice themselves for their family there are a lot of others that are living off their husband's hard work. I don't think this is a gender issue but a person issue. My ex-wife sure liked to ride my coattails.
  • I'm probably the only guy that will admit this but I've done it a couple times, with the most recent time being over the summer. I don't know how many calories I burned but I generally figure with a circuit workout of that length it's around 250. I also use much heavier dumbbells than they do to get a better workout,…
  • I bring my dog to work whenever it's nice out and walk her during my lunch break. It's not a lot of exercise but sure beats sitting on my butt all day. Last weekend we went pheasant hunting which was 3 hours of walking through waist high grass so we both worked up a good sweat. Here's a halloween picture of her.
  • I'm jealous of the full squat racks. One of these days I'll have to upgrade. But for now this setup gets the job done.
  • Breakfast. Usually 2 eggs and 2 pieces of turkey bacon, with a cup of tea.
  • I weigh just about every day and log it into MFP so I can graph out my trend.
  • I have a home gym and put it together to save money ($79 for a gym membership each month vs. $350 one time for used equipment) and time (15 min drive each way). I have a bench with squat rack and Olympic bar, dumbbells, treadmill, and free standing pull-up/dip station. I thin that covers all of the big exercises that I…
