  • I love how you handled this! You affirmed your daughter's strength, and you also didn't shame the word "skinny," just turned it in a different direction. With girl-children it is a slippery slope with body image adjectives. She will have people in her life who are skinny, so making it a negative is problematic. For me,…
  • C'mon over! You are welcome to snoop in my cupboards and freezers.
  • Totally my stuck up opinion: microwaving a pizza of any nature is a violation of all that is sacred and holy. Save these for home. BTW: if you have a barbie, any pizza cooked on it, will approach more closely the heavens.
  • Scones are a kissin' cousin of the muffin, as is shortcake. Scientifically proven.
  • Bless you for being diplomatic. We need more of that in the world. I try to be that way myself, but as one of those "old crones" who'd probably mutter in the same way, I appreciate your effort. You probably helped her off her sad/mad place.
  • Tao chi is wonderful for flexibility and balance. The big caveat is to find a **real** tai chi teacher. Tai chi is not a flowery dance, it is a martial art. It may be slow and contemplative but every move is a blow or wards off a blow. Ask anyone who you consider taking as your teacher how long they have been practicing,…

  • Just curious if the doc mentioned ITB to you. Outside knee pain is usually that-though swelling is not associated. Be sure that you stretch religiously after you work out. Here's a link to a four minute leg stretching routine that can save your legs/knees. I speak from experience! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P0Sg1MHhmjY
  • Stay away from cotton. I like Jockey seamless. Great for sweaty running. Commando would leave me chafing. As would thongs.
  • Because they are not food.
  • Ask the restaurant to check the nutrition information on the box. Or find out what kind they serve, and Google it. Also, I don't judge you for eating them. I just figured out how to make them gf at home.
  • "Barbara Kingsolver Greens." Recipe in "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle." In essence: onions, carrot, sun dried tomatoes, any green (kale's my fave). Poach eggs in this mix, or eat as is. Kale and mushroom stuffed omelette. Steamed kale stirred into sautéed garlic and anchovies. Over pasta maybe.
  • Love me a hamburger salad!
  • Just came back from 4 days camping. Breakfast: Espresso or cocoa with milk bacon hash browns eggs Pancakes chicken breakfast sausage eggs Shakshouka, eggs, bread Lunch: Cheese sandwiches every day with mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle. Small bags of chips, soda or Lacroix Dinner: Taco/burrito bar Burgers, chips Brats, BBQ…
  • Erythritol, like Olestra, should not find its way into any human body, and this illustrates why. Not that I am opinionated about it.
  • Hell yes! BTW: My little old gray-haired mother joined the Peace Corps when she was 67. They posted her to Costa Rica. At the time, not that many people had refrigerators, so the Peace Corps had to teach all their volunteers had to deal with that in a country where people lived on beans and rice. They were taught that if…
  • Check out the volume eaters thread, too. I'm like you and am just looking into it. BTW: thanks for supporting my ne'er-do-well cousin Dave! :-)
  • Get a hold of Vegan Brunch cookbook. Great recipes! I'm not a vegan, but I was a very good vegetarian for a decade, and I cooked all the meals for my DH when he went vegan for 2 years to see if that would lower his high cholesterol and put his prostate cancer in remission. Unfortunately, it wasn't effective for either…
  • Duct tape. I am helpless in the face of a binge.
  • Dried up muffins can be re-animated by coarsely crumbling them up and gently folding them with Greek yogurt and an appropriate fruit. Creates a trifle sort of affair. Less sadness.
  • Leanitup: you are just a nut for hot dog salad, aren't you? I'm very fond of hamburger salad, but I think I could get on the hot dog salad bandwagon.
  • Coffee Eggs Refries and corn torts
  • Not sure if it will be burgers or BBQ ribs smoked on the barbie, corn, potato salad, watermelon, chips, strawberry shortcake.
  • I pre log some. I like to get my dinner logged early in the day since it is almost always my most calorie dense meal. Like estherdragonbat I am Jewish. But, since Shabbat is supposed to be a taste of the Paradise to come, I don't log anything from Friday afternoon until Saturday evening. At all. There will be no reason to…
  • Agree! Spend the money on good, tasty cheese and you will use less. I have a mean-*kitten* low cal blue cheese dressing recipe I made up myself that uses this concept. I make one salad worth at a time because blue cheese dressing is heroin.
  • Ok. Here's the deal on low carb: it was invented for professional body builders to cut the last bits of fat off their bodies in the last few weeks before competition. It was not intended to be used more than a few weeks. For those going "keto," it works great to burn fat in the short term, but in the long run, keto has…
  • FemmeFire: recipe please!
  • Avallino Coffeehouse (Bellingham, WA) gluten free carrot cake muffin with cream cheese frosting nuked for 20 seconds. Even better than regular carrot cake muffins if you can believe that!
  • I love all things peanut. But I limit what I eat of them.
  • I can't imagine wasting any calories or time on cereal. It would make me cry.
  • Totally a butcher's job. And....I've had jobs that involved weight and distance measurement. You get very good at them after a while.
