  • That's fantastic progress. It took me almost a year to lose 10% of my starting weight; of course, I started at a much higher weight than you. June 2021 = 292 lbs, April 2022 = 263 lbs. Currently 258 and hoping to reach next 10% gola of 234 sometime in September. Are you exercising in addition to counting calories?
  • Wow, I had a lot of posts to catch up on. I haven't been logging, had two out of town business trips and an emergency trip to Florida to deal with some medical issues related to my mother (and am headed back there tomorrow), but I guess I'm getting the hang of what (and more importantly, how much) to eat, because I am…
  • Sorry, I forgot to post my weekly weigh in yesterday. It follows. Both of my parents grew up in Pittsburgh (actually, Swissvale). Listening to some of these recipes, and hearing about the Pope's interaction with Melania Trump yesterday made me remember that both of my grandmother's baked poteca (pronounced po-tee-zta), and…
  • @Nikion901 , when I first started thinking about the total amount I wanted to lose to get to normal weight I was so overwhelmed it seemed impossible and totally depressing. Several people on MFP advised me to break it down into manageable chunks (which I should have known from the way I address large business projects and…
  • Welcome @seppat97 . Many of the contributors to this thread are remarkable cheerleaders (I am more of a lurker and occasional poster, but draw infinite comfort and wisdom from reading the musings, successes and failures of the individuals working towards their goals here). I started at 292 and my ultimate goal is to get to…
  • @cellosmiles , I love the visual of the idea that the group has lost the equivalent of one small adult. It really puts in into perspective. I, too, have enjoyed reading the ancestry and food traditions of some of the groups' members. I started doing ancestry research but gave up pretty easily. My sister (schwester) has…
  • Sorry to mess up the team batting average this week. Went to visit Mom in FL and thought I made good food choices but wasn't logging (and certainly wasn't weighing/measuring), so up 1.8 pounds. Hopefully our lead off batters are on a winning streak! Name: Kathleen Age: 56 Height: 5' 9" Start Weight (week of April 19):…

  • Working 12-14 hour days so haven't had time to read or post. At times like these I wish I got paid by the hour!!! I hope everyone is doing well. Here's my challenge update for the week: Name: Kathleen Age: 56 Height: 5' 9" Start Weight (week of April 19): 256.2 lbs Goal Weight (week of June 28): 241.2 lbs (15 lbs) Weigh in…
  • @e911dispatch , that's wonderful! My anniversary is in November, and this year will be 32 years, so maybe the month of November will be good luck for you, too!
  • @andst5001, that is an incredible amount of weight to lose in less than a year - congratulations! How did you lose 2.5 pounds a week every single week for 50+ weeks? Were you eating an obscene amount of calories prior to embarking on your weight loss journey (e.g., fast food every meal)? I'm eating 1,200 calories a day and…
  • @Birdygirl15 THIS!!! " I am a serial dieter, but with enough science education to know what to do, how and why, just lacked the willpower to stick with it." If we could solve the above, we could rule the world (and become the next billionaires)!
  • Welcome to all the newcomers. I joined MFP in September and have found this thread very inspiring (although I must admit I read it more often than I post). I lost about 30 pounds from September - November while diligently logging my food on MFP and reading the threads and blogs for ideas and inspiration. Then, I went into…

  • @Nikion901 I don't know what medical issue(s) you are dealing with, but I highly recommend trying to find a conservative pain management specialist (MD) who is NOT affiliated with a neurosurgery or orthopedic surgery practice before seeing a surgeon. There are a lot of medication therapies and injection therapies that can…
  • LaDana, 11 lbs in the Earth Day challenge is great! @pneschich I've been wondering how you've been doing but was afraid to ask, so I'm glad Holly did!
  • @Nikion901 , you nailed it when you said the key to success is definitely in the mind/soul/heart/whatever, but I have found that for me, there are also some tangible things I can do that assist in the day to day: 1) I do better eating smaller amounts more frequently and since I work full time (but at home most of the time)…
  • Welcome Tim. Wow, 118 pounds is amazing! Welcome to the thread. I've lost 34 pounds and have another 100 or so to go.
  • There's a bunch of people in a thread named "Need to Lose 100 LBS -Robins Thread" that all had or have large amounts of weight to lose. Feel free to search for it and "join" in (there is nothing to "join" per se, just introduce yourself and comment as often as you as you like). I think we are just starting a 10 week…
  • Thank you @RobinB0812 for organizing a new challenge! I like the idea of a 10 week challenge, but would be happy with whatever the group decides by vote count.
  • @birgitkwood, you are my inspiration. My husband had a massive stroke almost 30 years ago when I had just turned 27 and our son was 5 months old. He recovered significantly but not completely, so our lives have been impacted since then. However, I am determined that if you could make healthy choices and changes, then so…

  • I would like to join the challenge late, just so that I feel some accountability to a group. You don't need to count me in your group totals, since I have been missing in action from this group since late November. What day of the week do you post your updates? I thought it was Wednesday last week; is that correct?…
  • Promise: Empty
  • @Dalceridae , please do stick with it. My weight has done some very strange up and down spikes, seemingly not related to calorie intake (and I'm past the monthly ups and downs), but if you look at my weight chart in aggregate, the downward trend is obvious.
  • That's almost 4 pounds per week, which is probably not healthy or sustainable.
  • @pneschich, so sorry for the myriad health problems your family is dealing with. Hopefully you will recover enough to enjoy a bit of family time over the holidays. Remember: "Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory." Albert Schweitzer
  • Congratulations @Dalceridae! I also reached my third interim goal today, which was 10% of my body weight (I set tiny goals, e.g., 5% of body weight, reduction in obesity category, etc.) since I have such a long way to go. I agree that we must celebrate our progress (while not losing sight of our near and long term…
