I just had the surgery earlier this month. Would you mind sharing your experience? Were there complications that caused the weight gain? or something else?

I just had surgery on the 6th. I too was very anxious the morning of the surgery. Most notably because the weekend prior to my surgery, I shared my plans to get surgery with extended family. 100% of them told me to just diet and exercise and try such-and-such diet, etc.. but they all insisted I should not do it.
