I don't consider it that way. I think of calories PER satiation. I find a chicken breast with 450 calories very filling, but no one would say it's a low calorie food by weight or volume.

There's nothing different if you are tall though.

I just drink zero calorie soft drinks. I'm somewhat addicted to Pepsi Max which has no calories. Addiction is a desire to continue the behaviour. You get a craving for it and you give in to it. What I do is to change my attitude towards it. The thought of doing it has to feel so bad inside that it overcomes any expected…

I aim to eat just at my BMR.
-
Nah. I don't like my body. It's pretty gross. I want to be skinny.

Pepsi max is like the elixir of the gods.

In my experience, if you're hungry, you should probably eat. You can't fight your brain forever. You should eat satiating foods for your meals, so you won't feel hungry. How do you know what is satiating? Well, you just keep trying different things until you find things that work for you. I suggest low food reward whole…

I see. I thought the LCHF community thought well of him. Perhaps not then. I tried to reference someone in their camp.

I want to get ripped and be pretty :p

I've read at least one paper that concluded that protein timing is dubious at best. I wouldn't worry about it. If it does matter, it's likely not much. In terms of fat loss, I can't think of why it should matter.
-
Haha. How so? Is there a history here that I'm unaware of? :) I can handle it. *braces for impact*
-
I probably would.

"You don't need to lose weight." :p B) o:)

Established by science. I make no appologies for stating science. Insulin is a satiety hormone in the brain. Even Robert Lustig, who is well known in the low carb community, of "Sugar the bitter truth" fame, admits this. I don't discount people's individual experience. The point is simply that if someone doesn't find…

It's established that insulin causes satiety. Carbohydrates don't 'cause more hunger. This makes sense, since you would want an appropriate feedback to stop the organism eating. A good amount of my information and thinking has come from Stephan Guyenet (an obesity researcher). He was really the catalyst that changed my…

Yeah, yeah. We can't all be this clever. It just comes naturally to me. $350 ono

Yes! This is my conclusion too. If you look at what most obese people have trouble resisting, it's junk food that consists of some high mixture of both macros together. Who is binge eating plain potatoes, or plain bananas to obesity? That's just not how it happens.
-
A perfect example of correlation does not imply causation. The attribute that causes obesity could be any one of SAD's attributes. Carbohydrate content is merely one attribute among many. This is the classic error of thinking the thing we are focusing on is likely the thing causing the effect. My conclusion is that the…

You are right in the technical sense, but there's a lot of psychological, emotional, habitual or even biochemical blocks for a lot of people that makes it a lot easier said than done. I could never do it until I radically changed my mindset, values, self image, food psychology and habits. Something that has only recently…

Technically fitness is free. You can do bodyweight exercises and go for a run. A person could get a hell of a lot fitter than most people by simply doing that. I go to the gym for the convenience. And I consider it worth it, because I got 3 times a week, and I can go at any time, morning or night, it's always open. If I…

I'd see a doctor and ask his advice. If he does a blood test and you're healthy then you might be on the far end of the bell curve in terms of body type. But it sounds like you need some more weight, even if it's just muscle.
-
I had this theory that junk food is about 50/50 carbohydrates and fat, because that's a very rare combination in natural food, and so it's very rewarding to the brain. It's like the jack pot to your reward system. Can you think of any? The only thing I can think of is some kinds of nuts, and a lot of people have the same…

I see this error over and over again. People come up with some draconian exercise and diet regime and think they can just go from zero to a thousand miles an hour. Of course you burn out! You need to work up to that. You need to build habits over time. For years I had the exact same struggle. I just couldn't do it. You…

Down under.

Very cool. I'm eating mainly plant based, and I aim for 70% 20% 10%. A bit more protein 'cause I want the muscle. Nice to hear a positive anecdote.

Why did they delete my thread? *cry* :p

It still begs the question. How does one eat at maintenance calorie levels, and why don't some people do that?
-
Well let me objectify my definition a bit. I mean high carb, low fat. A diet where the vast majority of calories come from carbs, and which no more than about 10% fat. The protein is mainly set from day to day so any extra calories from day to day come from carbs. Indeed, that is more like the upper bounds for low carb.…

I think intermittent fasting is for people who are already slim looking to get absolutely shredded. If you're overweight or obese, it's just not really necessary.
