I've lost 21 horseshoes!

@pneschich You have undergone a major surgery, and the body takes time to heal and recover from that. Your body is also trying to adjust to a vastly different diet and digestive abilities. I hope all the bloodwork comes back ok, but remember to give yourself a bit of time and space to recover and adjust to your new…

@pneschich Best of luck today! You have gone through so much on this journey so far, and I wish you a safe and speedy recovery on this new part of the journey. @debbieinva That's a great accomplishment! As far as water, I have pushed myself to make adequate water every day a priority, and I have seen and felt the benefits…

Welcome to the new people! There is always lots of support and motivation and understanding of struggles here. @Misnomer971 It's so hard to stick to a plan in restaurants. I read something awhile back about most restaurant desserts aren't really worth the calories unless it is someplace that specialises in…

@pneschich Good luck! After all that waiting, it's finally happening, and I wish you a speedy recovery

@birgitkwood You don't have to make a final decision that you have to commit to for the rest of your life right now. You could always try maintaining for awhile and see how you feel after a couple of months of giving your body a break from the constant deficit. After that, you might feel able to go back to a small deficit…

I don't think you need "special" foods or to think about food as "special". A lot of that is just marketing. I use coconut oil for cooking. Wouldn't want to drink it. I also have a protein shake for lunch because I spend my lunch break walking, so that gives me something I can just drink quickly at my desk and not worry…

There are individual groups which you can join, and they have their own subset of threads within their forum. This is a thread within one of the main forums, so there isn't really any way to "join" other than to just post  You can bookmark the thread which will then add it to the list of threads you follow and make…

@pinkstarberry That amazing progress and very exciting! Being able to maintain your weight over the holidays and with so much going on is a big victory as well and shows that you have incorporated this into your life rather than as something temporary. You are an inspiration. I am still trucking along. I hit 40lbs lost…

I'm doing a 16:8 split (usually ends up working out more like 18:6 in practice), skipping breakfast and having my first meal around 1:30-2pm. I drink a glass of water when I get up and have 2-3 more throughout the morning. I'm not getting hungry at all now. I only struggle on the weekends when my husband makes a delicious…

That's what I'm on right now, and I managed to fit in some pizza and spaghetti for dinner last night (which I had been craving), so I'm not feeling deprived on it.
-
I've recently quit eating breakfast so that I can have bigger meals later in the day. I don't find it has affected my energy or productivity in the mornings at all, so I am happier skipping it and my previous mid-morning snack. Makes me less hungry overall I'm finding.

I always used to eat breakfast because I thought you needed to - "most important meal of the day" etc. Once I started logging my food, I struggled with a deficit because I like to eat in the evenings, but I wouldn't have many calories left for dinner. I also started noticing that eating small bits here and there left me…

The cool IT guy in work helped with a new desk set up, so now I can alternate between sitting and standing. I'm very excited as I know long periods of sitting are linked to all kinds of health problems, and this will help me be less sedentary in my daily life now that I'm not tied to a chair 8 hours a day. I stood for a…

@melaniedscott Ouch, so sorry to hear about your foot. That must be very frustrating and add to the stress of the new year. @ShyCush6 Glad your father-in-law is improving. I'm sure the puppy visits are doing him lots of good. I love the idea of transformation over resolutions. I want to start adding in some resistance type…

@wishfuljune That's a great word and very appropriate. We need to keep making strides in life to avoid getting stuck in a rut @Rachel0778 Sometimes if we're feeling bad about ourselves, it's hard to feel good about others. It's good to recognise those feelings though - many people will just react to those jealous feelings…

That's a great realisation @Nikion901 - and I think the way I look at weight loss is starting to change for the better with more exposure to this site and to the great wisdom of others who have been successful. I used to have a very linear, very strict view on weight loss, and I think that played a large part in why I…

I've been wondering this since I started logging food, but why is potassium so important?

I'm not defending a fad diet here, but people can live off almost entirely potatoes. Pre-Famine, the bulk of the poor Irish population lived almost entirely off potatoes and milk. Your average Irish person was very poor and didn't have access to even other vegetables for the most part (aside from what was scavenged). The…

You could look into Intermittent Fasting on a 16:8 type schedule. I realised a couple weeks ago that I don't care for breakfast but do like a bigger meals when I do eat. Now I skip breakfast and eat two bigger meals for lunch and supper (bigger because I have calories left from not eating breakfast). I'm much happier…

I actually think strength is a great word for me this year as well (not to jump on the bandwagon!), both mental and physical. I'm taking evening classes to move into a different career path, and it's proving challenging to juggle everything. During the holiday break, I've gotten into the habit of taking long walks every…

Congrats @MermaidPrincessRach ! that's a big milestone I've really been enjoying all the long walks during my holiday break. I'll miss them when work starts up again, but I'll continue my lunch break walks in the park. I'm feeling very good as I've gotten back on track as far as my diet goes, and I've lost my Christmas…

That's a pretty hefty amount to lose in a short time frame - almost half a pound a day. You might want to focus on the three stone part rather than setting such a strict deadline.

With previous weight loss efforts, I always weighed myself weekly. I would feel horrible whenever the scale didn't show a loss, and I think some of that discouragement led me to just give up for the week...which then started a trend of bad weigh ins, etc. When I joined here 6 weeks ago, I started with once a week, but then…

@ShyCush6 Those hikes you mentioned look amazing and so beautiful! I'm enjoying my holiday break by taking lots of long walks with my dog. She's doing so much better this week. I had to rush her back to the vet just before Christmas as she couldn't keep any food down, but that seems to have passed thankfully. This week she…

@skinnyjeanzbound I have a border collie/setter cross. She has sooooo much energy, so she loves the long walks. Feeling very annoyed at myself. I had completed my food diary for today after dinner and hadn't eaten most of my exercise calories back (as I ate well above maintenance for several days during Christmas). I was…

Severe sleep deprivation makes me want to eat everything in sight to keep functioning.

Great work @MermaidPrincessRach ! I've been taking advantage of my time off for the holidays to go for long walks with my dog. A week ago, a long walk on the beach left me exhausted, but today the same walk just felt good. Have to work on controlling my eating a bit when I come back though. Today I was starving by time I…

I've been resisting all the Christmas goodies and going for walks during my lunch break, but somehow I've gained half a pound. Trying not to get discouraged as I know weight loss isn't linear etc, but it makes it so much harder to not give in and eat whatever I want for Christmas if I'm not losing anyway. I'll keep…

@FeraFilia you look great! It must feel good to celebrate your progress and feel good about how far you have come. I reached my first goal today - I have lost 10% of my bodyweight! I wanted to reach it by the end of the year, and it is nice to celebrate progress rather than focus on how far I have to go still.
