Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah! I got up early this morning and cooked her part of a Christmas dinner for a friend who wasn't feeling well. Now the rest of the day will be for resting a relaxing, other than getting my steps in for the day. I'm in first place this week in my step challenge, which ends today, so I will be walking some extra steps today just to be sure I keep my 1st place. Everyone enjoy your holiday and try to be moderate if you are going to partake of the holiday goodies!0

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, everyone!
@amy-- Hope you and Tom had a wonderful holiday!
@campfire-- Congrats on 1st place in your step challenge!
@pneschich --Hope your foot and knee are doing better. I've suffered form PF, but not to that extreme--sorry you have to deal with it.
@robin-- Great to see you pop in--Happy holidays to you!
@misnomer-- Welcome to the thread!!
@rach-- Congrats on the loss--that's awesome, especially considering most folks are struggling to not gain at this time of year--go you!
@fera--Wow, that's a lot of cookies! I'm so glad I don't bake because I would end up eating much of the results.
Hello-to the rest of you. Sorry I haven't been good at keeping up with personals lately, but please know I am reading your posts and rooting for everyone.
AFM--The holidays here weren't too much of a challenge. Yesterday, we went to my sister's for a casual pizza dinner. Not a lot of food to tempt me, but I did have a piece of cake and a couple of cookies for dessert. Today was supposed to be the big Christmas dinner at my SILs house. However, my DH wasn't feeling well, so he decided to cancel and we had a quiet day at home binge-watching Shameless. It was actually really relaxing.
Exercise has been a little bit better due to warmer temps--Gunner and I have been able to go for our regular walks again. I've also been doing this 6-minute ab video that was a part of my last Amazing Race challenge. It's easy and quick, so I've been doing it every day. Tomorrow I plan to get back to the gym, but my ankle has been feeling weird the past few days. It's not sore, like I twisted it; rather, it feels stiff, like the joint needs cracking and when it does crack, it feels better for a bit, but still not "right." I'm concerned that it may be some sort of stress fracture, so I think I will stick to the elliptical or stationary bike and avoid running for a few more days. Why put extra stress on it when it's feeling this way?
I don't have a lot of grading over break which is nice. I am applying for an educational trip to Japan next summer, and I need to write a 300-word essay for the application process, so I want to get that done before going back to work.
Grading Goals:
1. x/40 Scarlet Letter papers
2. revise 1st semester AP final exam
3. write Japan essay

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, and Happy Holidays to those who don't ... and A Happy New Year to Everyone!
Just popping in to say hello and share my Monday Check-in for the last time in 2016 ...
I've successfully overeaten throughout the past 12 weeks that I am the same weight on this last Monday as I was on the first one of 2016 ... with a lot of up and down in between. It's all a learning experience. It's a blessing that I'm not higher in weight than when I started. It's a good think I have a plan of action for the coming year.
Next week my new health insurance policy kicks in and I'm hoping it will be worth the added premiums I'll be paying monthly for it to have the gym membership as part of my coverage ... the plan covers Silver Sneakers. My local YMCA participates and offers all except one of the SilverSneakers fittness classes. The semesters at my gym run for 2 months at a time, so when I go in on Tuesday (they will be closed on Monday) I will finalize my enrollment and sign up for the activities I have scheduled into my personal calendar.
... Silver Splash on 3 days a week, Silver Sneakers Yoga on 3 days a week, and Silver Sneakers Classic gym class on 2 days a week. The Yoga and Splash classes will take place on the same days and the Classic class will be stand alone on the other 2 ... so that will be 5 days of heading out to appointments with better fitness for the next 7 weeks, then a new schedule of offerings will be provided and I can try something different or not.
The nice thing about the Silver Sneakers program is that I can attend fitness classes at other gyms at the same time as the ones at the YMCA, which will allow me to try another gym if it doesn't seem to work for me at the Y.
The other part of my plan is, of course, to reduce the calories I consume. However, I think that I also need to consider how different foods affect me and make dietary changes beyond just cutting calories.
This past year I was successful in several of my goals ... one had been to cook my own meals instead of relying on either prepared foods purchased at the grocery or from a restaurant. I want to continue that goal in 2017 because I really have had a lot of success with that change of habit and want to bring it forward with me into the future.
Another goal accomplished was to use MFP daily. In fact, that particular goal has been overly successful because I now find myself trying to cut the amount of time I spend here. ... So in my new year I am setting limits on computer time. I've already started to implement that change in my habits by shutting down my Apple instead of just letting it 'sleep', I even shut down the DSL router. .... just that little detterent has had the effect of freeing up several hours in the day ... hours that I can use to work on other goals ... like activity, and chores around my home!
So that's it for my posting on this thread. I'm not planning to visit here very often next year. But, if this thread doesn't entirely cease from inactivity, I do plan to pop in once in a while and see what's going on.
So long folks, and good luck on your goals for the coming year.
Niki0 -
@Nikion901 - Totally get it. I moved my computer down to the basement so I'd stop using it so much! Good luck to you on that (and the rest of your very admirable goals!), and hopefully we'll see you around.
Avoiding all those baked treats like the plague right now... So many cookies and candies still left over. As I sit here avoiding baked treats, that have managed to sneak their way into my mouth far too many times than I'd like to admit today, I was thinking about my New Year's resolutions. I've made them before, and almost never make it past the first couple months. This past year I managed to keep my resolution, for the most part, and will finish it like I planned. It's a wonderful feeling!
For 2017, I have decided on a couple that will be beneficial to me in different ways.
1) Train for, and successfully complete, a 5k. I will do that this year. I am not bending on this. I have wanted to run in a 5k for years now, and this is the year I am going to do it. This is my fitness resolution.
2) I started a Tumblr, where I will be posting a photo of something that made me smile every single day of 2017. I am doing this in an effort to focus more on, and have a greater appreciation for, the positive in my life and stop complaining about the bad so much. This is my mental health resolution.
3) Compliment my husband every day, something big or something small. I want him to know he's loved and appreciated, and I feel like I've neglected that a little bit with the arrival of our son. This is my marriage resolution.
4) Get dressed, do hair, do make up, make myself look nice, at least once a week, for no reason. I tend to neglect myself in favor of the kid, the hubs, the house, whatever... and I need to remind myself that I am worth my own attention sometimes, too. This is my resolution to help build my confidence.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a Merry Christmas!2 -
@fera-- love your goals for 2017! I also need to sign up for some races b/c it really helps keep me motivated to run regularly. Some friends at work expressed a desire to run a race in March right before our spring break, so I'm going to find a run 5k and get us all registered. When I first started running, I used couch to 5k to train for my first race. If you google it, you can get training schedules for a 5k or a 10k. There is also an app, but I've never used that (didn't have a smart phone back then. Make sure you go get fitted for good running shoes before you start, or you will risk injuries that could interfere with your progress. I'm currently suffering from some foot and ankle pain, and though I initially thought it might be some sort of stress fracture, I've come to realize it's similar to the plantar fasciitis pain I've had in the past. I know it's due to the fact that my running shoes are too worn, so tomorrow I'm going to buy some new runners.
@niki-- totally understand with trying not to spend so much time on the computer. I've cut my time on here quite a bit since school started in August and it's made it much easier to keep up with all of my grading. I plan to check in a lot over the next couple of weeks while we're on break, but I will limit it again once school resumes January 5th.
AFM-- I made it to the gym today, and though I said I wasn't going to run, I couldn't resist jumping on that treadmill. I did compromise and only ran 1.5 miles before switching to the elliptical for the other 1.5. I also walked gunner since the weather was so nice today and also cleaned up the back yard. I am going to do my ab video right now since I already marked that as done.

It's my Birthday today! I'm excited that I've almost made it to the New Year with a slimmer me, and a healthier me in tow! And next year when I turn 69, I plan to be at my goal weight! It has been relatively simple to get to this place, and all of you wonderful friends on this thread are a major reason. You encourage me, make me smile and laugh, and rejoice over our successes. Your transparency helps me to be more diligent about avoiding the traps and hard places, and your example has inspired me beyond measure! Companionship is such an important thing, a feeling that you aren't in this alone and that you can speak your mind, even when it's not a positive place that you are in, to people who truly understand because they are on the same journey and know first hand what a big deal this is! I wish you all the joy and comfort that you have given me. Today I will celebrate my birthday, fully enjoying all that I do and all that I eat, but I have an idea that this year, perhaps I will not feel like that gnawing hole in my heart needs to be filled with so much food that I don't feel it anymore. It's a lot smaller than it was this time last year! Hugs and Love from TN3

@campfire-- Happy birthday!!1

Hi guys! Hope everyone is doing well.
Just checking in to update goals. I didn't have time to walk Gunner yesterday, but I spent all day at the outlet mall with a friend, so I certainly did more than enough walking to make up for it. Not sure it was enough to cancel out the dinner we ate out. She was in the mood for Italian food, and though I tried to make decent choices, I still came away feeling like I ate too much.
Today, I had to skip the gym b/c some friends had to move a lunch date from tomorrow to this afternoon. I did take Gunner for 2 walks though, and plan to do my ab video this evening. I also will definitely make up the gym visit tomorrow.
Missed yesterday, and I have quite a list so here are my...

Yesterday I started the DASH for Weight Loss plan from the book by Marla Heller. I am following the sample menus she provides. Other than being rushed in the morning to pack my lunch and thus forgetting my jello, it was fairly easy and enjoyable. I packed my lunch for today last night so the morning rush doesnt happen again today. and i wont forget my jello.
I am still trying to make my New Year's goal of weighing less than 300 lbs on New Year's morning. This morning I was 303.4. I think I can make my goal, especially if I follow the plan.
There are times when it is a struggle, but I respond to those times by telling myself, "It's worth it. It's always worth it." And then I just deal with whatever it is.1 -
Hi, everyone!
You can do it, @MermaidPrincessRach!!
I've been bringing my lunch to work for the past five weeks (since I transitioned from meal replacement products to providing my own food), and I still kind of resent having to take the time. But packing it the night before isn't an option because I have a turkey sandwich every day and I hate cold bread, so every morning it is! I've been working from home this week, and it's been awesome to make my lunch at lunchtime.
One of the things I've discovered about myself on this journey is that I am very much an immediate gratification person. I've never been one to set long-term goals or work toward long-term benefits, either personally, professionally, or financially. I want something and I have the money right now? Get it, and if there's an emergency later I'll deal with it then. Same with food. It's never affected anyone but me, though, so I never had any motivation to change. At 45 I've finally started to mature in that area, in all aspects of my life, but it's still a struggle at times. So it can be hard to remember that I'm making better choices today so that I'm happier and healthier in 2 (or 3 or 4) months, not necessarily tomorrow. Especially when the results -- while there -- are barely noticeable day-to-day.2 -
You can do it @MermaidPrincessRach !!
I've been doing really well with my year end goal. I got below 200, right after Halloween and have kept below. I might jump up above for a day or two but then I'm mindful of what I eat and how much water I drink and I go back down. This has great way to enjoy the holiday season without going too far over board. Usually a day where I go crazy and eat too much or eat a lot of sweets turns into two days which then what is the point of weighing in that week. And if I'm not weighing in I might as well keep over indulging. This season I've been weighing in everyday (my scale is a digital one that goes to the tenth of a pound) so each day is a new day.2 -
Friday Fitness: I have been trying interval walking recently. Really, I'd like to be running, but that is too stenuous on me right now. I go out for my coffee stroll most mornings after I feed my kitties. And when I finish my coffee (don't want to spill my coffee ), about a thrid of the way around the block, then I do my intervals- 30sec fast walking, 30sec stroll... all the way home. My trip around the block is 0.7mile and it use to take me over 20min to complete but with speed walking intervals it is cut by about 4min so far.3
-
Great work @MermaidPrincessRach !
I've been taking advantage of my time off for the holidays to go for long walks with my dog. A week ago, a long walk on the beach left me exhausted, but today the same walk just felt good. Have to work on controlling my eating a bit when I come back though. Today I was starving by time I came home and just wanted to eat everything in sight. Cooked a couple of eggs and trying to convince myself to wait a bit until my stomach catches up with my brain.1 -
@Dalceridae --One thing I love about walking is how quickly we can build endurance. That's great that you are already reaping the benefits. What kind of dog do you have? My Gunner is a boxer/shepherd mix, and boy does he motivate me to get out for those walks--meaning he bugs the crap out of me until I take him. LOL
@rach-- intervals are perfect to improve your walking speed and endurance. When you are ready, you can use the same idea to start running. I used couch to 5k when I first started running, and I still do intervals when I'm trying to get to a faster pace. I don't really know much about the DASH diet--you'll have to keep us posted on how it goes for you.
@trinati2001 --I also try to weigh in every day b/c I find that when I neglect to do so, the pounds can creep back on. Also, research shows that people at a healthy weight are more likely to weigh themselves daily.
@Misnomer971 --I agree it can be so hard to stick with the program and wait for the results. I have that issue with running. With other forms of exercise, like weight lifting, the improvements come so quickly. I can increase my weights by a little bit weekly, but with running, it seems to take forever to increase my pace and endurance. Of course, then I get discouraged and slack off on my training. As a result, my 5k pace has been the same for the past few years.
AFM--Food has been good though I've been neglectful about logging. I really need to get back to that.
Friday Fitness:
This week has been pretty good. I skipped walking gunner yesterday b/c it was super windy, but I made it to the gym where I lifted and did a mile on the treadmill and another 10 minutes on the arc trainer. I already walked gunner today and will do the ab video tonight. I am definitely getting better at it, and I have even moved to the more difficult level for one of the exercises.

@skinnyjeanzbound I have a border collie/setter cross. She has sooooo much energy, so she loves the long walks.
Feeling very annoyed at myself. I had completed my food diary for today after dinner and hadn't eaten most of my exercise calories back (as I ate well above maintenance for several days during Christmas). I was watching a movie with my husband, and he opened a bag of my favourite crisps. I wasn't even hungry, but I ate at least half the bag I don't want to eat more than 50% of my exercise calories back as people say MFP overestimates, but there went my deficit for the day.

Popping in to say Happy New Year to everyone who posts to RobinEgg's Thread ... So, Happy New Year ... soon.
It was interesting @Dalceridae that you mentioned eating back just 50% of exercise calories ... I just happened to read something the other day that put another spin on why not to eat them all back ... because the calorie burn from the exercise includes your normal burn on top of the exercise activity burn, so if you eat back all your exercise calories you will be, in fact, eating back twice as much ... the calories of your normal burn are included in your BMR ... The doctor who explained it was much more eloquent than I am, but it made much sense to me when he explained it.1 -
GOODBYE 2016!!!
As ya'll might remember, my goal is to be below 300lbs on Jan1st. This morning I weighed 301.4 nail-biting suspense! Will I make it by my deadline?
What's everyone's plans for tonight? Party? Fireworks? Champgn? JGTB? (just go to bed) That's me! LOL I'm a morning person so I will be up bright and early New Year's Day. But for those staying up, I hear there will be a comet in the night sky!0 -
You can make it, @MermaidPrincessRach!
But you know what? Even if you don't, I think getting to 301 is a HUGE accomplishment!!
It's never mattered to me to be out on NYE: I usually just stay up to watch the ball drop, then go to bed. I may need to take a nap today in order to stay up tonight, though, because I played poker last night and didn't get home until 2:30am -- which, for me, is very late! I stayed up for a little while reading, then had to get up to put another blanket on the bed, so it was probably close to 3:30 by the time I fell asleep. My excellent dog didn't wake me up until 9:30 this morning, but I can definitely feel that I was out too late/didn't get enough sleep. Thank goodness I didn't also drink! LOL!
I don't usually do resolutions, but I actually have a few this year:- Get down to just one chin
- See my collarbones (I know they're in there!)
- Start dating again

Hi Everyone
I have already lost 100 lbs. but I have 100+ to go. I hit a 3 year plateau because of things that were going on in my life. I had 12 people die in those three years including my Mother, Bio Dad, Step Dad, 2 Uncles and an Aunt. So it's been a hard few years. But I know God has me. I have been getting help emotionally and I have a couple amazing friends that have been trying to help also. I have been back on track for the last couple months and know that it's all going to get better.
I wish everyone a Happy New Year and Good Luck to everyone in the coming year!2 -
@Abbaslove - my heaviest congratulations on the loss of the first 100lbs. That's FANTASTIC! And a 3yr plateau, under the circumstances, is perfectly understandable. Sounds like you didn't gain, despite all your losses, and that's pretty amazing. 2017 will be your year for getting the next 100lbs gone. We're rooting for you!
@Misnomer971 - I really like your goals for the coming year. You're right, those collarbones are in there, somewhere. Mine recently made an appearance, and at first I wasn't sure what I was looking at, lol. I'll always have multiple chins, however - they developed in utero. Oh well...
@MermaidPrincessRach - I fervently hope for you that when you wake up in the morning the scale will show less than 300lbs! But just in case it doesn't, don't let that derail you. The scale is an inanimate object and the numbers on it are just that - numbers. The numbers do not define us, nor the hard work you've already done. Keep on going in 2017, and keep striving toward your goals.
I've been sick for about 10 days with a nasty flu and head cold. It's been the gift that keeps on giving. But suddenly, this afternoon, I'm noticing that I'm coughing and sneezing much less, my head no longer hurts, my nose seems to drip much less, and praises be - I appear to finally be on the mend! Just in time to start the New Year! I've been really missing my daily exercise regime and can't wait to get back to it, as soon add I can breathe freely. Maybe tomorrow??? Oh please...!
Wishing all of you a very Happy New Year!1 -
Blessings and happiness and prosperity to all of you beautiful people :-)2

I MADE MY NEW YEAR'S GOAL!!!
299.2
2017 is going to be MY year!
According to the Chinese zodiac, I am a rooster. Chinese New Year starts on January 28th and 2017 is the year of the rooster.4 -
@MermaidPrincessRach Congrats! Awesome! Keep on going.
Happy new year to you all, may it be filled with blessings and joy....and pounds shed0 -
Congrats @MermaidPrincessRach ! that's a big milestone
I've really been enjoying all the long walks during my holiday break. I'll miss them when work starts up again, but I'll continue my lunch break walks in the park. I'm feeling very good as I've gotten back on track as far as my diet goes, and I've lost my Christmas weight and then some0 -

This year is sponsored by the letter P
Practice, practice, practice.
Practice positive reinforcement, personal accountability, healthy choices, moving more, experiencing emotions without food, and turning off the telly.
Best wishes to you as the new page is turned. X0 -
Well. I didn't make my year end goal of hitting 280. I got down to 282.8 but then I had unexpected visitors in the house resulting in less than stellar food choices. I am retaining water like a sponge and am up 3 pounds. Here's hoping that drops off quick!
Happy New Year, everyone!1 -
I'm back and appalled at the amount I gained since Thanksgving. Just totally went off and overboard. There's nothing to do but pick up the pieces and start acting like a responsible adult. The motto Practice, Practice, Practice can sure apply to me. Along with learning to discipline myself.
Back on plan, preparing foods in advance. Have bronchitis now but going to Costa Rica in 7 days, so need to get well. Will probably go work with weights later today. Short workout just to get started. Maybe walk in the pool which is inside
Best Wishes to everyone for a Happy and successful New Years.
Katrena0 -
Happy New Year to everyone! It's cold and rainy and I want to go out walking but the rain just won't go away and it's slated to keep on until Wed at least and by that time the artic blast will be here I think, so I'm going to have to make myself go out and walk at the mall or one of the big stores, if I'm going to get my steps in. And I just plain miss my walking, I love it so much!
I only have one resolution this year and that is to get to goal weight if I can and if not as close as I can. I did pretty good this year, even though I didn't get down to the weight I wanted to be at by the end of the year. I'm a lot healthier and happy for it, than I was this time last year!
@MermaidPrincessRach I'm so proud of you and pleased as punch that you made your goal.
@birgitkwood I'm missing seeing you around here but then I haven't been posting a lot either
So proud of everyone! Wishing you much success this year!
