Thank you, @thisonetimeatthegym! Thank you for setting out your thoughts in such a clear way, and for providing the excerpts that you did, which were informative and eye-opening. Your analysis is rational and thoughtful, and you say what you think with directness and courage. I'm new here and I love all the funny posts on…

I'm so glad for this thread, because I was wondering about the phrase "stubborn pounds." I guess there is such a thing, and one can expect it to be harder near the end? (I want to get to 125 from 146.)
-
What are "little prayers"?
-
Oh thank you so much for these suggestions! The first 2 got me through yesterday, and these others are terrific tips too. The MFP community has many supportive people.
-
Ha ha! And I also ruled out "extra-terrestrial activity" -- one of the things I found when I went online to try to figure it out (didn't want to ask because it seemed like everyone else knew what it meant!)

What does ETA stand for?
-
What a wonderful thread this is. It's not easy to balance healthy & budget-friendly & tasty & fast, but some of these ideas make it sound like a lot of fun!

Yes, and speaking of what 'our elders' would think . . . Chesterton's quote would apply -- something to the effect that tradition is like a big democracy, where even those who have died get a vote about how to do things. He was a big fan of doing things traditionally (and monogamy) (and Catholicism) (and beer).

I'm new, so I don't know enough yet to say that the traditionalist voices are almost always in the minority at MFP. However, give me a few months, and I may say just that!
-
That's interesting -- thanks for fleshing out your position, and for sharing the background story too.
-
I didn't say that it wasn't.

There have been a handful, but definitely the minority. What I mean, in particular, is that most people, upon reading this thread, who hold a no-cohabitating preference would see OP's stated position (and the most-commonly expressed view), and would probably want to keep their unpopular views to themselves.
-
I can't help but wonder what prompted you to begin this interesting discussion in the first place. It seems like you already have your mind made up. And I see that most of the people on this thread support the idea of cohabitating first - so much so, that I doubt anyone with a contrary view would be prepared to say they're…

Yikes. Having children is most definitely NOT "replicating oneself." Each person is unique and irreplaceable. The bonds formed between generations is a very good thing.
-
I don't follow your meaning.

Hello RebekahAnn! Happy Advent to you too! I'm sure there are lots of Catholics on here (wild guess: 25% as baptized Catholics) but I think they're all shy. But I'm not and I love being Catholic, so feel free to send me a friend request!

This is too much of a leap. Overposting on one subject = insecurity? Some people like to write about one particular topic (let's say a favorite type of entertainment or food or hobby) and others like to write about several things. That does not mean that they lack mental or emotional health. That's illogical. (And I have…

I like the answers of the men who say they wouldn't, because anyone considering the question -- especially phrased as it is -- can see what the "right" answer is. It takes some courage to say what you really think. Having said that, many people find themselves dating (and marrying) people they didn't think were their type!

I've been using my scale! I think MFP would be close to impossible without it -- I didn't realize how essential it was. It's kind of fun, isn't it? Maybe the novelty will wear off, but for now, it's rather amusing. Tonight I added pasta, tared it and then added the cheese on top, so that I could enter both parts. It…

And as I recently learned, a cat is a grown *kitten* right? Or is it the other way around? Hmm . . .
-
Ha ha! Oops, I'm sorry! I thought you were serious! Oh man. Too funny.
-
Don't confuse directness with meanness. In many cases, people are expressing their true opinions, and that's not always a bad thing. But yes, sometimes people are mean-spirited. MFP people are no different than others, except perhaps hungrier.
-
I don't like tattoos.
-
On this box, under "Nutrition Facts" it says just "Per 60 g" so I need to know how many grams I ate. And I just purchased a scale! I bought it on Amazon.ca: "Smart Weigh GLS20 Digital Glass Top Kitchen Scale." I got it in white.

Thank you for the example, grmckenzie. It confirms what people are saying about cereal and scales and so on.
-
Tavistock Toad, I think you're right, and my calorie budget doesn't leave room for the extra 6 million!
-
"apparently testing the boundaries" -- too funny!
-
No food scale. I guess I may have to invest in one, if I want to do this properly.

I wish you the best, brookeleggett1
