Today I am proud of myself for making it to week 3 of low carb. Not required to stop binge eating, but I find it helpful, and of course that also means 3 weeks of no empty family size cartons of ice-cream, corn-chip bags, or coming to in a drift of holiday candy wrappers. I also quit drinking a couple of weeks ago. It was…

Realizing there is hope for me, letting go of the past, and striving to live the happiest life possible. Forcing myself to socialize with people I have interests and passions in common with. Striving for goals that don't involve just losing weight. All of this was vital because I learned two years ago, when I hit my lowest…

I can eyeball it or mostly ignore it entirely (as long as I stay out of the cheese) on low carb until I hit the low 120s. Then I have to weigh and measure just like anyone else trying to lose weight with a tiny deficit.
-
Indeed. Another great reason to sharpen up my cooking skills. (And weighing/measuring skills!)

It's really fascinating, though. Especially the epigenetic interplay. Wish I knew more about it!
-
Then why are NSAIDs legal? Why is pseudo-ephedrine legal when that is what they make meth out of?
-
And then you ask how much of our behavior is genetic. And down the rabbit hole you go. Although I think environment matters more. And affects the epigenome, too. Which is why I hate seeing parents loading their kids up on low nutrient convenience foods and allowing them to sit around, play video games, and get obese.

More like pharma lobbyists not wanting competition from anything they can't patent. You can believe that or not. I do. Either way: It works? It gets banned.
-
I think that is true for virtually everyone. If young people today who maintain a lean body effortlessly and without thought are unicorns, middle-aged people who do so are surely flying unicorns!

Learn to cook from scratch, and then do it. Still working on it, I'm not the world's best, but I enjoy it now. And it destresses me. It's creative.

I assumed nothing. Unless of course they were all lying and secretly counting calories and working out to stay lean and then pretending to do so effortlessly. I have seen that video, though. It's good. My point is, they ate (or claimed to eat) to satiety, to use a technical term, and did not force exercise in order to burn…

Correlation is not causation, but it is possible you're worrying about your health when you don't need to be: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/could-a-few-extra-pounds-help-you-live-longer/ People who are slightly overweight but not obese—as defined by their body mass index (BMI)— tend to live longer than their…

Some worked very well. They got banned. Anything natural/herbal that works in the future? They'll ban it. Then what will you do? Regain the weight, that's what. You can speculate as to why these bans happen or not if you wish. It's just been my experience after decades of use; from ephedra to methylsynephrine. If it works?…

My point isn't that they're defying the laws of physics. They just don't think about what they put in their mouths vs what they burn off. Ever. Probably they do pig out sometimes and then skip meals or eat light. But they don't have to think about it. They don't struggle with hunger. They just do it. Of course many of…

If I saw her running a marathon I'd think nothing of it. A lot of dedicated runners have a gaunter look than even the leanest non-runners. And on some people, the baby face goes before the 'baby belly'!

I know a few people who eat whatever they want, whenever they want, and exercise as often or as rarely as they want, and they're lean and healthy as far as I can tell. I assume the differences are mostly genetic. Whether DNA or epigenetic or a combination of both. They're rare as unicorns these days, so I don't resent them…

Warning: Essay Incoming Let's assume the worst for a second: Let's assume that you really will require less food at goal weight than someone of the same weight who has never dieted. Well, so be it. Figure out what your maintenance requirements are when you hit goal and then eat nutritious foods that meet your intake needs…

Zero carb, zero calorie flavored/spicy teas exist. Some with caffeine. I like to drink those hot. Also black coffee. Takes getting used to, but beats caffeine withdrawal headaches, assuming caffeine is allowed by your doctor.

44 and checking in! Lost well over half my body-weight over the past few years, but always gaining and losing above where I want to be now. Just need to learn mature consistency, I think. That impulse kid in a candy-store nonsense has to go.

Boiled eggs and a pinch of salt keep well when on the go and fill me up.
