^I agree with this. I would guess that a good percent of adults don't know much about this either. This woman's son needs to see a professional. By his mother's own admission, he is very thin, and worried about his weight. This is clearly an issue for this young boy, and probably something his mother realizes did not…

^Exactly right. And there are ALWAYS options for what, and how much, you eat. There are normal weight people in Urban areas, as well as every where else. People manage to make better choices for themselves and their families. It can be done if it is important to you.

Why isn't anyone, of any economic class, making better choices? Why isolate it to inner city populations? It isn't only poor people who are obese. What policies and changes do you think should be made?
-
I wouldn't call it exceptional, especially considering very little mass transit in the suburbs. Seriously? I lived in Mpls and either walked or bussed to get my groceries as I had no car then, and there was no light rail. There are busses and light rail in both cities with frequent schedules. Anyway, where are they getting…

If it seems too good to be true, it isn't. Waste of money. If a "magic" pill were the answer, everyone would be a normal weight.

I think that there are always choices that we all can make. Obesity is not limited to people in poverty. Taking control of our lives and making better choices. Portion control, CICO, moving more. Where there is will, there is a way. No matter what you eat, or where you get your food, you can not eat more calories than you…

Education is key, and the earlier children are taught, the better. There needs to be a consensus though, between the parents and school authorities, on how it is taught. This teacher is clearly out of line and you are right to be upset, and it is good that you are meeting with the principal and teacher. If it were my…

Took the words right out of my mouth. It is never easy kiddos (from 65 yo perspective)

Congratulations! You look fantastic!

I have seen these kinds of topics on here before. My question is, where does personal responsibility come into this? Everyone, rich, poor and in between should have personal responsibility, for themselves and their families. Packaged foods are labeled with serving sizes and calories per serving. Is it ok to overeat…

Wow! Beautiful!

Soups freeze well, and I think tastes better. I make large batches of steel cut oatmeal, and freeze it in individual containers. I find no difference in taste. I make eggs in muffin tins and freeze. They taste a little different and the texture can change a bit.
-
Are you on any medications? High BP?
-
OP, or you could spend less and buy bulk oatmeal and have enough for many, many, many breakfasts. Frozen berries don't go bad, neither do frozen veggies (you can even freeze fresh veggies and berries for later use). Eggs are pretty inexpensive as well. There are options, if you look for them, that are affordable and…

^This, me too!

Congratulations on all of your success! What a tribute to you to have your parents emulate your success by counting calories and trying to become healthier too! You are truly inspirational!

I am not sure, but it happens to me once in a while. When it happens, it always catches up with my Iphone entries and shows up on my PC. Sorry, I know this isn't much help.

Develop a thick skin. You need one on MFP.

^This And you absolutely can, and will, starve to death if you do not eat.

You get water from foods you eat and other liquids that you drink. If you are thirsty drink, that is your body telling you to hydrate. You may need extra hydration in hot weather, when you exercise etc.

I did say that they are USUALLY easier to peel. It definitely doesn't work every time. However, I neglected to say that after they are totally cool, I crack them gently all over the shell (as much as possible). The shells USUALLY come right off. I have tried baking eggs, but there is something about the way they taste and…

Don't care much for Pop Tarts. (one thing I can totally avoid) However, the toaster strudels are delicious.

Seriously, it is the freshness of the egg itself, not the color of the egg. The fresher the egg, the harder it is to peel. Try putting the eggs in cold water. Bring the water to a boil. Turn off the heat, cover and let the eggs sit for 10 minutes. Drain the eggs. Then put in ice water until cool. They are usually easier to…

Same way you do when it is -20F and wind chill makes it even worse, you walk, and dress for the weather if you want to get the steps in. Just think about all of the people that have to work out in the elements every day, and realize that it is doable if you want it.
-
Do it. Dress warm, especially if it is windy. DD & I did a 5k Thanksgiving Day 2015 that was -18 F with 8" of new snow the day before. It was great DD got a PR, I finished LOL.

Bless your heart sweetie. You have gone through a lot and come out a survivor. I am so sorry for what you have had to go through at such a young age. Stay strong!

Much less, because I am eating less. Very little junk or pre packaged food. Very little eating out. Cooking and prepping a lot more

Seriously? I am done. You know nothing about me. This is not about mathematics. I know many people in my age group that are eating, or have eaten 1200 to lose. It is not uncommon. Some of us do not fit into your mold. I do weigh my food. I have dropped my calories to 1200 and am losing weight, and this was my doctors…
