  • This isn't the best idea, but I got a recipe in my email this morning for bacon wrapped avocado. They are sliced into wedges, and wrapped in a piece of bacon then sprinkled with ancho chile powder, cumin & salt (I think I would omit the salt, as bacon is pretty salty, and use black pepper instead, but you could probably…
  • Fitbit gives you total calories burned and this includes calories burned through just being alive. You get credit on fitbit for actual minutes and it tells you how many calories that you burn during that activity. However, I think that, as with MFP, Fitbit does overestimate the calories burned during the activity, at least…
  • Laxative abuse can cause very serious health issues! You need to make your doctor aware of how long you have been taking them. Prescribing laxatives, when you have been taking them for years, is not the solution. Did you tell your doctor that prescribed them?
  • Get a second opinion from another doctor. This sounds like a lot of laxatives to me, and for 4 years? Find another doctor to get another opinion.
  • Starvation is a very real process and can lead to death. Your body does not stop losing weight at a certain point that would cause you to go into "starvation mode", where you would quit losing weight. Everyone has seen photos of starving people that look like skeletons with skin covering them. If your body is not getting…
  • No excuse for bad manners. None. It is inexcusable. It shows ignorance and lack of character. The breakdown of modern society, and very definitely, not at good thing.
  • You can do this by just taking it one day at a time. Try not to look at the big picture, it can look insurmountable. Break it up into manageable amounts for yourself. Weigh, measure and log everything you eat and drink. A year from now, you will be so glad you started when you did! Read the success stories here, and take…
  • I pre log my food for my evening meal each day when I am logging in my lunch. I know how many calories I have left for the day by then.
  • I am another person who weighs daily and a Happy Scale user.
  • LOL, I know the feeling! Glad to hear you are adjusting! I am looking forward to it (12/31/17), but have kind of mixed feelings as I work very long hours and am kind of wondering what on earth I will do with all the "extra" hours in the day.
  • Holy buckets, 41 is old? Then..............I am really, really old (65)!
  • I tweaked the recipe for the soup a bit, and really like it as a soup, but have never done the diet. The soup is flavorful and I put in a lot of veggies. Good way to get your veggies in.
  • I had an egg white McMuffin on Saturday. Went to the gym, had a lot of errands to run and was feeling very hungry after working out. Stayed within my calories for the day, and week, and this morning down -1.5 pounds for the week. Working the calories in to your daily allotment works.
  • I guess everything is open to interpretation. I don't consider any food a "cheat" food. My personal view is, all food in moderation, and staying within your calorie allotment for the day is not cheating, IMHO.
  • No cheat days/meals for me yet (day30), and I don't intend to have them. I am not saying never, cuz it may happen. I would just rather not have them. I won't beat myself up if they happen, but I have had too many cheat days, and starting over tomorrow days, to let this happen. I figure I would only be cheating myself of…
  • Well done! Thanks for sharing, the successes of others keep many of us going! Continued success to you!
  • Diet coke, but not every day, maybe 3 times per week. Sometimes it just hits the spot.
  • I use steel cut oats. It is always thick. 1 cup oats to 3 cups water. I pretty much think any oatmeal is thick when you cook it from scratch. For instant, use less liquid.
  • Agnostic (still a little hope inside, my hypocrisy knows no bounds) leaning towards atheism. But I definitely do not believe in organized religion.
  • I know that for me, when/if, I get to maintenance, I will have to keep on monitoring my weight and food intake. You are correct, the odds are staggeringly against most of us keeping the weight off, but like my father used to say, "can't never tried". All any of us can do, is try.
  • We don't know what OP is eating either (besides Ramen), but it is kind of logical to suppose that Op doesn't consider it healthy. Most of the comments have been very helpful, but that is just my opinion.
  • It is important to pass on family history, and your grandchildren will be thankful for your doing so. Good for you! You can do this. I am 65, on my 27th day here, have lost 12-1/2 pounds so far. If I can do this, anyone can! Best of luck to you!
  • There are a lot of recipes and web sites that you can use for getting recipes and tips for tight budgets. Are you making use of food shelves and/or food stamps? There are many ways you can save and eat "healthy" A lot of great tips and suggestions here OP.
  • It is actually cheaper for me. Buy in bulk, buy sale items, cook large quantities and divide into individual containers and freeze for later meals, no eating out at restaurants or fast food. Many of us have extremely busy lives, with a lot of demands on our time. If you want it bad enough, you can do this, and it will…
  • Wow!! Congratulations! You look fantastic!
  • That is my daily treat too, for staying within my calorie goal for the day, but I have 2 of them.
  • Look at you! Amazing! How proud of yourself you must be!
  • I checked out your link. I only saw 12 postings and a lot were the moderator. One thing they did say is that you should have it on your non-dominant wrist, which I do. BTW, I have not logged one step on my fit bit since my above posting @ 1:01, it is now 1:31. This is a moot point for me anyway, as I love it for the…
  • I work in an office. I have heard others say they get steps from hand movement, but I have not noticed this with mine. This was a concern of mine after I got the Force, that is why I wore them simultaneously. I just did an experiment and checked the steps before and after typing on my keyboard. No difference. However, I…
  • I actually had a One first, then a Force (discontinued), and now a Charge HR. I wore the One and the Force at the same time, and there was very little difference in step count between the 2 fitbits. Now I usually have my iphone in my pocket at the same time and the step counts are close as well. One thing it does not do…
