What a great thread. I’d be really grateful for some advice: I get a bit overwhelmed by all the choice- what would you recommend for someone who wants to move from specific olympic weightlifting training to a programme that develops a more hybrid, versatile, leaner (and stronger), balanced fitness? I go to a gym that has…

I’m in Huddersfield 😁

In my first session this morning after a long break, I tried the app ‘Strong’. It’s okay- I can export the workout log to whatsapp and it’s easy to log everything. I’ve heard of trainerize and might try that. Thanks for the other tips.

Thank you everyone for your helpful and interesting replies. I’m an olympic weightlifter who had a coach and a team until logistics and the completion of a PhD hampered that. I’ve discussed the disadvantages of remote coaching and I’m fully aware- I listen to my body and I’m good with comms (and all the other essential…

Hi all, my 39th birthday is approaching and all I can feel is immense gratitude for my fit, fully-functioning, joyful body that enables me to do the sport I love. I’m increasingly aware of how lucky I am. This time next year, I’ll be setting off to Montreal to compete in the Olympic Weightlifting World Championships. I…

I compete, and my bodyweight category is 71%. I fluctuate around 70kg but as you can see, I need to recomp some fat for strength, while maintaining at just under 71kg. I don’t really know how to do it! Thanks for your feedback!
-
Unflexed front! Waist is 778mm / 30”2/8

Thanks for the feedback! I think it’s because I have fat distributed on backs of arms, back of thigh, lower tummy etc...The calliper sites were places where I have more fat, apart from the bicep. I guess pics are hard to use for estimates too- I should probably post a relaxed pic too for a better idea. Ha yes that wibbly…

Ahhhhhh I understand all that! I see lots of people finding it hard to accept reload and volume phases as necessary / essential. Sounds like you learnt the hard way :( Can you go back to it? With olympic Weightlifting its slightly different as you know- more focus on technique and less about constantly hitting big weights.…

Thank you- trying to get stronger and more powerful all the time!

Yeah I agree- I thought one pic of me out in the open was more than enough! Callipers said 31.65%

@sijomial I am always so, so grateful for your insight, wisdom, advice and information. You’re always spot on! I could do with you on my team! Thank you so much. You’re right! I think not troughing like a ravenous leopard (as I did yesterday) might help...! Do you think intake could make a difference at non-pro level?
-
Delighted to find this rich resource of recomping info and experience. Very grateful. I wish I had time to read all the posts- I’ll keep coming back. Meanwhile, if there’s anyone else in a similar position I’d love to hear from you. I’m a 5’3 olympic weightlifter in the UK. I have a coach who writes my programme (three…

Thank you! You go there?
-
Thanks for replying! I’ve no idea yet and that’s a very good question. I’m usually very happy to travel to a good gym, though! Which city are you in?

Olympic weightlifter in Huddersfield, originally from Oxfordshire. I maintain a bodyweight category for comps. Alexandra

Hello all, I’m an Olympic weightlifter in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. I used to run more but looking at some possible sprint training... Happy new year to everyone. Alexandra

Thank you so much! That’s very helpful.

Great thread, thank you. My sport is Olympic weightlifting and I compete in the 69kg bodyweight category. At the moment I’m at the top of this bodyweight category range, training at around 70kg and then making 69kg at comp weigh-ins by reducing salt and calories to 2000/2200 a few days before accordingly, but I’m not yet…
