  • lots of useful comments. Great that you are working on your health and fitness, don't let this 'hiccup' get you down or tempt you to stop. It is almost always an error measuring both calories in, and calories burned. An accurate digital scale is essential, as is a good HRM (heart rate monitor) both are not too costly, (I…
  • When a friend completes their daily record, if the diary is 'open' to friends, there will be a comment 'veiw diary' in blue next to it...
  • Always had an open diary, and friends are welcome to comment. If someone 'unfriends' you because of honest diary entries - they have a problem, not you. I once had a friend on here who lost over 300lbs. He said, for him, logging everything and sharing his diary was a great help...
  • Well done on your efforts so far. Great that you have a trainer helping. It is not unusual to lose quite a bit to begin with, especially having put all that weight on. You are going to feel a new person before long! Don't eat less than the minimum recommended though. I'm sure your weight loss will even out to around 2lb a…
  • Look at food with high calorific value, maybe? A few nuts or small helping of peanut butter can add up - assuming no nut allergies :p
  • Just stay with it! Be careful about what self-made 'experts' on here advise. Everyone gets a bit of a plateau now and then, it's not an exact science. Carry on, it sounds like you are doing the right things. You will progress ;)
  • OK, never confessed this one: a certain young woman was causing me a huge amount of stress, so I 'facilitated' her ability to conceive. She became pregnant, had a child and the trouble stopped. Instead of my stress levels being sky high, they dropped. I would imagine hers went up a bit...
  • There are so many 'experts' on here but few doctors. I know of several ways to get things moving but I'm not a doctor! I once had these symptoms and it transpired I had acute appendicitis. Not suggesting there is anything wrong, but why not have a medical check up and take professional advice on the best approach... Rgds,…
  • I think it depends how you can survive if you have a very physical job. Thinking 'old wives' years back work was far more physical and breakfast calories may have been more important. I often skip breakfast but for energy I drink a good quality filter coffee and ginger tea, not together! (root ginger grated and infused)…
  • Thanks for that thought. There are, as pointed out by others, many different ways to describe this practice. At the time I posted, the Muslim observance of Ramadan, was the nearest thing I could think of. Of course I meant no offence...

  • *BTW, the "magical food that supplies only kjs without any carb/protein/fat" is distilled alcohol (spirits/hard liquor, such as gin, vodka, whisk(e)y). [/quote] So we'll be slim alcoholics... :p
  • Hi, I'm out in the country a lot, and in the gym 3-5 days a week, averaging about 7000 exercise calories. Diary always open to friends. Current regime is loosely paleo based, with 1 fast day on a Monday, and 1 'reward' day Saturdays. Hate the term 'cheat'. Happy to share the journey... Rgds, David
  • You have great commitment and perseverance, an inspiration to the rest of us MFP hopefuls. Well done and thanks for sharing your success! Rgds, David
  • Hi, firstly congrats on your level of commitment and perseverance. I started almost exactly the same regime a few weeks ago. I'm 11lbs down towards a 30lbs target, so it's working...
  • Alcohol is not really a good idea as part of a weight loss programme, but I have one 'reward' day each week (dislike the term cheat) when I can have it if I want...
  • Hello, I hit 55 next April 21st - been back 6 weeks and 11lbs down on a 30lbs target. 'Friend me by all means! best regards, David
  • He needs to be told, if not by you, his management. You have a regime that works for you - full stop. He needs to back away...
  • I don't count them. Also, I dislike the term 'cheat' why not call it a reward day? I just decided, after a month being totally strict, that one reward day a week may be the best for long term progress. My regime becomes a punishment sentence without a reward on the horizon. Sure stepping on the scales and seeing…

  • This type of dog needs a lot of exercise. They are a working breed, and can be prone to misbehaviour if bored. Generally you should only have one toilet pad in the same place, eventually moving it outside. Small pups need to 'go' quite a lot but this will ease up as he grows. Has he been vaccinated..?
  • The most important thing about any exercise regime is that you enjoy it. If you don't, then it won't last. 95%+ of my cardio comes from walking with a bit of jogging here and there. I go to the gym for 45 minutes 3 times a week, mostly for the weights, strength/muscle development. Cardio alone can sometimes affect the…
  • I do a total food fast on Mondays, same day every week, so I have learned to accept it and mentally prepare also. I allow fluids obviously, but try sticking with water and green tea so as to detox a bit also... Feels good!
  • Blood Type Diet! Never heard such total baloney (excuse the meat-related pun) I'm an A- blood type and eat any lean meat as part of my diet. Lost 11lbs in the last five weeks on a lowish carb higher protein regime, but eat almost everything...

  • Well done! That's the most sensible attitude I have encountered for a while. At 54, it probably took me 20+ years of gradual weight gain (those lbs sneaking up) to get where I was at, when I re-joined MFP mid-December 2016, looking to finally erase those 30lbs that have appeared over time. I'm sure a long term switch of…
  • If I don't exercise, my limit for the last month has been 1250 cal. However, owning 2 Jack Russell Terriers gets me out at least twice a day, and I visit the gym 3 times a week for a light workout. I will eat back 25% or so exercise calories if I have done quite a bit or get cravings. Lost 7lbs in 4 weeks...
  • Hiking or walking is great exercise - gym is not mandatory. Any decent weight-loss approach needs to begin in the kitchen. Just my opinion, but diet is probably 80% or more of the key. Some cardio is healthy though so we all need to sacrifice a bit of time to it. I've just made my usual walks a bit longer, but use the gym…
  • Accurate measurement of calories consumed, and calories burned through exercise is critical. If you can afford one of the popular monitors, get one, they don't cost a lot. My Polar was £60. If you do this and maintain a consistent calorie defecit your weight will begin to drop. There's no clever science to this, just…
