Some sensible replies at last, thanks everyone for answering. Generally, I reckon my Polar HRM is not too far out, although, personally I am cautious of eating back more than about 50% to allow for a margin of error. Immediately assuming my calorie calculation is wrong, that I can't possibly burn 500cal in 2 dog walks - I…

Nothing wrong with carbs, did I say that? I just said carb cravings, leading to eating above my plan...

Polar FT4, and there is much debate over 'eating back' - if people choose to do so that's up to them...

We don't always walk, often jog cross-country. Twice a day, often wearing a 10kg weighted vest, which equates to weight lost so far. Calories measured via Polar FT4. So no, not 'estimating' anything.. and I would burn 500 calories an hour in the gym also - not difficult when working hard...

I don't like the term 'cheat'. If I am making progress I will have an occasional 'reward' day, when I don't log, and eat/drink whatever I want, fast food or otherwise... Have lost 21lbs since mid-December so it works for me. Maximum one such day per week...

It's not so much the carbs, but the calories. Some carbs are a lot higher in calories, root veg for example. I think the keto diet allows some green veg and salad items but is very low carb, as low as 5% and higher in protein, even higher in fats. Start by sticking within the calorie target MFP sets you, and within that,…

Tracking on here, with like-minded companions does work. Small breakthrough's like the jeans are a great morale booster, well done!!

Work on diet and exercise to lose a pound. When it's gone, do it again, they soon add up. Sometimes that's easier than looking at what may seem a big number. My initial target 3 months ago was to lose 30lb, and bit by bit I have shed 21lb so far. When I reach 30 I may have a few more to lose, will wait and see what the…

Plateau's happen - my last was 10 days, followed by 4lbs loss in a week. I usually change my routine some way, as I suspect the body gets too comfortable with the same thing. E.G. this week I bought a 10kg weighted vest, which is all the weight I lost in the past 12 weeks or so. Now I am training back at the weight when I…

Start by sticking with the daily calorie goal MFP gave you to achieve your target. Have a good look at what you are eating, and root out unhealthy habits. Try and do at least some exercise each day. Be cautious of self-proclaimed 'experts' with thousands of posts on the forums, who spend more time waffling here than…

I suspect there is something wrong with your calculations/measurements as regards a deficit. If you maintain a regular deficit you will lose weight. Weigh food with digital scale and use a reliable exercise monitor... good luck

A lot of advice suggests dividing your calories into 6 meals a day - ideal if you can make the time. As others said re remaining inside your daily limit..

Apple cider vinegar has some health benefits, and I take a tablespoon with water most days (good for arthritis for one). It does not affect weight loss. Green tea is a very good anti-oxidant, but I would be very cautious over using charcoal for several reasons, some outlined here. Be aware that being a member of MFP does…

After losing 18lb towards a 30+lb target, not eating back exercise calories, I decided to try it for a week. Calories eaten weighed on digital scale and taken from MFP, calories burned measured by Polar FT4 HRM. In a week I gained 5lbs. So, for me this does NOT work. My minimum daily burn is 500cal, and often is well over…

40lbs is achievable, but look at it as a lb at a time (small steps) My starting goal is 30lb and 18lb gone since mid-December. This is the right place to help focus on eating and exercise. Plenty here with the same or more to lose. I'm in if you are looking for company on the journey to better health and fitness... rgds,…

Halve the amount and make it with water, and have protein with it - eggs are good. I have oatbran or porridge with water every day, but have eggs, cheese or fish too

The water, above all might be the key. Dehydration causes nasty headaches. Well done!

Quite a target, but when do you see summer starting? Divide this into weeks, then divide weeks by 35 - is it doable? Most advice says 2lb a week should be the maximum safe loss, although I understand those who have become very overweight can lose quite a bit more to start. Why not set your MFP target at 2lbs a week and see…

The occasional day eating what you like is no disaster. Hating yourself over it makes no sense, just don't allow yourself to use it as an excuse for giving in and doing it the next day etc. Once a week is fine when losing as you are - consider it a reward for progress day not cheating. And if someone has a McDonalds on…

Fantastic achievement, well done! Imagine for a moment though If a guy posted that: "I've been trying to get into my GF's shorts ..pics.." I think the admins would lock the thread!

It is quite easy to gain weight faster by overdoing carbs though, which is why some go low-carb (no carb is difficult). Why not go for low (complex) carbs and higher protein for a bit and see how it goes. I just switched away from very low carbs as by evening I was 'climbing the walls' due to carb cravings, and often ended…

Will this 'lifting' be at a gym? Great advice and instruction available at most, and probably better than from people on here that you don't know. You could even join one short-term, then get your own weights, but personally I like getting out and seeing how others work out, plus it's a good social activity if you find a…

Invest in a treadmill. What's your definition of 'workout'? You could go for a few miles pushing a stroller - the little one will love it! Also, google 'plyometrics' for intensive workouts at home...

I have hypertension, and have a wrist monitor. Weight loss and exercise lower it, definitely. Although I am still on meds also. It is important to research and buy the right, accurate device. My BP is always high in the morning, and I was advised that's common, apparently, because your blood becomes thicker due to no fluid…
