  • If you are mainly sedentary you should probably put that. Keep in mind that if you are exercising most days you will be earning more calories to eat anyway. A lot of people don't worry about being at the exact same calorie goal each day but look at their weekly average. I am 5'6" and looking to lose 40lbs....well, 30 lbs…
  • I agree with the posters above. Input your stats and see what MFP gives you for calories. I have been at 1200 calories for the month of January and have lost 10 lbs. I am fairly inactive though I am working to change that. I am certainly not suffering with the food I am eating. I am very motivated so it hasn't been too…
  • I am coming up on 40 rapidly...shudder. I need to lose 40 lbs or so. My next weigh in is Monday and I'm hoping to be down 10 lbs.
  • Once your thyroid meds are working it becomes easier. I have been steady now for a few years. Generally you need your levels cheked every few months. You can't really speed up that process. Focus or your eating, exercise and how you are feeling.
  • I am busy too, I set my exercise goal at just 10 minutes a day. I can usually do a bit more but it varies. I figure once I get a routine down it will increase, as will my stamina. Chasing a little one around is going to keep you moving!
  • You can do it. But you don't have to do it alone. There are so many people on here that are encouraging and motivating. Get yourself a friend base and commit to a better you. I am working on losing 40 lbs. I can honestly say I have never felt better than I do right now and I only started 3 weeks(ish) ago. Check out the…
  • I will add you. It is hard to change your thinking. I try to look at it as 1 minor thing in an entire journey. Each meal or chance to workout is a chance to get back on track. You are allowed to go out to eat, or have a drink. The goal is to generally fit it into your calorie goal. Sometimes that won't be possible but you…
  • I use an app on my phone called "water drink reminder". It gives a little notification each hour to ask if you've had anything to drink. I alternate between plain water and some with a squirt of flavor. My computer at work is slow so when it thinks, I drink. Have worked up to 100 ounces or so a day. I include tea and…

  • I don't go to the gym, no time or money :) I do some free you tube workouts (Jillian Michaels and Tiffany Roth) and got some resistance bands to add strength training. I picked up a second hand exercise bike for $20 and I try to walk my dogs more. I set my goal at just 10 minutes of some kind of activity a day. I usually…

  • Are you reaching your protein target? I ask because I seem to have trouble with that. I bought a protein powder to help me out every now and again. I was using Vega which is vegetable protein and tastes like it...but I just got Quattro cookies and cream and was stunned at the difference. Hubby likes it too. Switching to…
  • @DENARELLA Add some friends. (add me if you want) It helps to see others pop up on your feed. Try and check in everyday. Once you get into the swing of tracking your food it gets easier. You can look at others with open diaries to get meal ideas. My goal is to exercise just 10 mins a day, to do something...anything.…
  • I had to eat GF for 1.5 years for other health reasons...so happy to be eating normally again. Anyone who doea it as a fad diet has a screw loose...IMHO
  • What are you eating? I eat 1200 cals and do fine but I am not particularly active. I eat lots of veggies and lean meat and weigh/measure everything. I also drink lots of water. You can also adjust your calories to lose weight at a slower rate. If you are miserable you have a greater chance of giving up.

  • Have you checked out the recipe for the protien cheesecake on here? It is fabulous. Under 200 cals for a slice depending on your specific ingredients.
  • You can add me as well.
  • @alid8333 You are going to get lots of opinions. You are under the care of a doctor so they are the one I would be listening to. If your doctor wants you to be active, do it. Your health will only improve. I don't get a lot of exercise as I am out of shape and starting slowly. I don't necessarily eat back those calories. I…
  • I am in love with a chef's salad. Full plate of romaine/greens, top with chopped deli ham, a chopped gala apple, cooked chopped egg whites, a chopped up cheese string, tomato/cucumber/carrot and 1-2 tbsp of berry balsamic salad dressing. It is so satisfying and I can usually barely finish it. Comes in around 330 cals. I…
  • I am aiming to lose about 40lbs. I am on here pretty much everyday. I am feeling disgustingly optimistic these day. The change in diet has greatly improved my mental well being. I turn 40 in 3 months or so and want to have a significant change to my shape by then...and be able to wear my wardrobe again. Slowly adding…
  • Have you checked your measurements? Sometimes the number on the scale doesn't move but the inches do.
  • Make sure you are drinking plenty of water as well. Sounds like you are making great positive changes. When your mental health is good the rest comes much easier. I am trying to lose weight for my physical health but I have seen positive changes in my mental health and feeling of well being since I have been focussed on…
  • I aim for 100 ounces. I use an app that asks me every hour if I have had anything to drink. I keep a 24 ounce water bottle at home and work that helps me be conscious of the amount too. I also found it hard to get started but feel really great now that it is becoming a regular thing.
  • The naturopath I saw recommended Vega. It can be pricey (not sure if that is normal or not, I don't know a lot) but I was able to get it at Costco. I like the vanilla one, I found the berry one disgusting. Oh, and FYI...if you blend a frozen banana with a tbsp. of cocoa powder, a tbsp. of natural nut/peanut butter and a…
  • I think it is important to enjoy what you eat so you could look at modifying how you cook and eat meals at home. Since I started (just a couple weeks ago) I absolutely ensure I prepare my breakfast and lunch for work the night before. One lunch I have been loving is a chef's salad. A large bed of lettuce, cooked egg…
  • I have been eating 1200 cals a day since I started. I am down about 6lbs in the first 12 days. Since it isn't a ton of food I make sure that I eat a lot of veggies and drink plenty of water. I am not suffering at all. However, I am currently fairly inactive and am just starting that slowly. I generally eat yogurt and…
  • I am fairly inactive though I am trying to improve. I am at an office job too. I am eating 1200 calories a day and have lost 6 lbs in 2 weeks. I eat a lot of veggies and drink at least 100 ounces a water a day. I had a salad for lunch today, greens with a little dressing and topped with cooked egg whites, ham, cheese and…
  • For me...I have to wait until I am motivated to do it. Turning 40 with a 40" waist was it for me. I am determined that is not going to happen. It did turn out for me that I had hypothyroidism...that meant low energy and the weight magically appears without even trying. Add a little depression in the mix and it is hard to…
  • @TyatKU My husband wouldn't eat veggies if I didn't put them on his plate. Stir fries are great and easy to prepare. I buy frozen mixed veg and it is so quick and easy. Add some lean protein and you are set. You do have to watch the sauce you use but a little goes a long way. If you use a prepared teriyaki or ginger/garlic…
  • Start small, add more whole foods to your diet. Eat fruits, veggies, whole grains and good fats. Measure and weigh your food if you are sticking to a calorie goal. I am eating 1200 calories a day and am fairly inactive. You are welcome to peek at my diary if you want. I am feeling really good eating well and drinking lots…
  • I am doing really well with my food but find it hard to exercise. I am adding in some free you tube videos, some time on an exercise bike and some resisitence with bands. I am quite out of shape so it doesn't take long for me to be out of breath. What do you do for exercise?
  • I am trying to do 40 lbs before I turn 40...also my belly is 40"...not good
