  • After my last relationship ended, I had a realization that there are things about me that reduce the size of my dating pool. At first, this launched me into despair. But now, I'm glad for it. I will need nothing less than an open minded, kind, caring person. Nothing sad about that
  • This sounds like just the thing to get me back into a routine! I'm shooting for 80 miles.
  • Vegan here, everyone is welcome to add me
  • I would recommend a food scale. Measuring cups and spoons are not standardized and vary widely. Also, if you are eating back some of the calories you burn, understand that a lot of the estimates for calories burned are WAY off. I Would start with measuring, and then looking at how many calories you want to eat back, and…
  • 8 years is a long time, and at that point it takes a lot to walk away. I was in an awful relationship and one day after a fight I had this moment of clarity where I could see the rest of my life stretching before me, and I knew in that moment that nothing would ever change. It hadn't changed in 5 years, this is just who he…
  • Give yourself some credit, 20 minutes is awesome! When I first started the most I could do was 10 minutes on my stationary bike. I added 5 minutes every week and now I can peddle for hours! Not that I do, that's boring  It doesn't matter so much where you start, just slowly add time and you will be surprised how…
  • @shelleyrhoads that is more commonly referred to as ketoacidosis. Confusing for sure, but ketosis usually means what is being described in this thread.
  • I don't have much to add, other than to say that this community can be a great source of support

  • I'm a vegan, feel free to add!
  • Yes! This was an awesome documentary! Very practical and accessible fitness, especially for people with young kiddos.
  • Most of my back is tattooed, I've got legs like tree trunks and a BUTT. Wish it didn't take 31 years to feel like I am awesome!
  • Being a chef is a huge advantage, that's awesome! To be honest, I don't pay attention too much to the specific statistics, mostly because they vary widely based on who is funding the study. Is some sugar in the diet okay? I think we can all agree that it is. So how much is too much? The World Health Organization recommends…
  • I am a Zumba instructor and people will tell me that they have wanted to do my class for months before they actually do it, because they feel self-conscious. I felt the same way when I started! I don't have a dance background and tend to be a klutz. But 15 seconds into your first class you will see that it takes so much…
  • Do you like to cook? The further away you can get away from manufactured foods the better. Sugar is in most manufactured food because it just makes everything taste better. Breakfast tends to be the most sugar laden meal. I would look at what your usual meals are and ask yourself how to upgrade it. What is your usual…
  • Congrats on the weight loss so far! I am and ACE Certified Personal Trainer and I am loving working in the fitness industry. Good luck with your certification. As far as weightlifting, you can start now. The main thing is proper form. If you belong to a gym, sometimes they offer a free intro to weight lifting session. If…
  • Oh and LENTILS which I find are a great sub for ground beef. If you don't have a rice cooker, I highly suggest getting one. You can find them pretty cheap at Walmart. I can't cook rice without it. I also use my rice cooker to cook lentils!
  • I am a supplement free vegan. I try to use the rule of "a bean, a green, and a grain" to fill up my plate. Quinoa is a fantastic grain as it contains a good bit of protein. Peas and broccoli are a great veg source of protein. Chickpeas and other legumes are very versatile. There are obviously the mock meat products, but I…
  • Nothing wrong with walking in place! Another way to rack up the steps: check out the loads of Zumba videos on YouTube!
  • Sorry work and home has been stressful. That is tough, where is the break from stress? I stumbled upon the Headspace app months ago and it has been a game changer for me in the stress department. It teaches mindfulness in nice little 10 minute chunks. While it is good to focus on food, don't forget to take care of the…
  • I second TavistockToad. An actual program is great to inspire focus and purpose. Also, do you have a performance based goal? Something other than losing weight? Perhaps if you had some sort of race or meet or other type of similar goal it might energize your routine.
  • I'm a vegan. And I agree that it is not the weight loss silver bullet that a lot of people think it is! But it works for me and I love it. Everybody is welcome to send me a friend request
  • 8+ years here. I gained a lot of weight after I got sober. A lot of people do. But honestly, focus on sobriety for a while, you can't get fit if you're dead. Slow and steady. Congrats on your sobriety!
