  • Interesting...I googled it and apparently you do retain more water when the weather gets warmer. Likely not what my issue is...but knowing that I will be a few pounds heavier in the summer than I am in winter is still nice to know. www.scientificamerican.com/article/experts-body-wieght-ambient-temperature/

  • Good work Mandy! I love hearing stories like this, they are so encouraging. And since our brain's see sugar as a reward, I can imagine it would be awful trying to break that cycle.
  • Thanks so much for explaining this as I have always wondered how it all works.
  • I've always found that when I was exercising or exceptionally active my period would be lighter. The more sedentary I was the heavier. But that maybe is just me.
  • So happy to see I'm not the only one...congrats all! I know that slow and steady is a great way to go. I was feeling a bit down this week because a friend started keto and of course lost 8 lbs right away, but I still feel that going slowly down is the best path for me and it sounds like it is for all of you as well!
  • I hope you find some people and some support! I'm a parent of a type 1 so I can see how hard it would be. There is a great group of people over at tudiabetes.org ...I find alot of support there.

Now in saying…

  • I tend to blow my calories on snacks...usually when I'm at the cottage and not counting calories. So I've decided to allow myself only a certain number of snacking treats for the week...maybe 2 sweet (cookies etc) and two salty (chips etc) That way I can still have a snacking treat but not all the time and I really have to…
  • You could try menu planning..as in taking the time to plan out healthy meals and have all ingredents ready. That way you have meals to look forward to that can help you resist temptation. I find it way easier to be ok with being a little hungry at 11 if I know that I like what I'll be eating at noon for lunch. Then I play…
  • Pilates! Check out Blogilates on youtube. Pilates is especially great for core strength which will help with your abs and you can do it at home. Its helped with shrinking my stomach a ton.
  • Well I'm glad I'm not alone Embeekay! :) And thanks everyone for all your tips, they are great and will be implementing them. I do think that when we go to our cottage I will bring my scale and my weights - even just to remind myself that I can't take a vacation from being healthy. And when we have friends over, I will…
