Today is indeed a new day. One day of bad stuff won't hurt and more important - you know you did it, didn't like it and so you know not to do it again:) You logged which is a smart thing to do - you are not hiding from it:) Well done. Relax, learn from mistakes and improve. You can do it, you will do it:)

I get a stress indication from mine - but - I don't know if I am stressed and it's picking things up I don't know about or what... I personally like having a tight deadline and the stress that it puts me under - I see that as positive stress - it makes me achieve... So - should this be counted or not? For the rest of the…

You don't say how long you have held at... Holding could be due to any number of things - time of month, water, developing muscle at same time loosing fat... Are your clothes still getting bigger? Even if they stay the same its ok (see above). If they are getting tighter then possibly not so up the exercise? Main thing is…

The key is consistency:) Motivation and Willpower - these can really only come from yourself. You can use others as a source but it's really down to you and you alone to make the changes that you want. Maybe as an idea - post about your own motivations and battles with it. This will help. Post about how you looked at your…

If you've never come across the term - then read the source that it comes from. It's quite interesting and fairly new research. It goes some ways to explain the issue. You trust who you like. I have no problems with that in either way. Informed discussion and the ability to agree to disagree is something I hope we can at…

Why would be concerned about anything? We always thought that lots of sunlight was great for you until we realized that too much gives you cancer. Now, we know enough to put sun screen on or cover up. IF there is something that may affect my health, I think I need to be concerned to the point where I read about it and make…

Aspartame is just one sweetener. And to be fair, there is so much information and interpretation going on - there is no one definitive answer. Unfortunately. There are many other issue going on, besides the biochemical. Psychology plays a big part, sweet things make you want more sweet things etc. There is also what effect…

There is evidence that sweeteners do affect insulin. This is caused by certain parts of the structure mimicking intermediate metabolites (I'm not a biochemist and it's along time since I've done any). But - there are also some papers that refute this. So - you reads your information, you makes your informed choice.
-
You are correct - you cannot gain fat without calorie surplus (in general). No discussion there... Where there is confusion is that artificial sweeteners affect insulin levels. There is a mechanism that insulin resistance (type 2) is negatively affected by sweeteners and that puts weight on. There is also evidence that the…

I do not know the mechanism of your anorexia and I'm very sorry that you had to suffer that horrible disease. I have seen close up what it can do. How are you now? There are no calories in diet drinks (or very little) and so they will no on their own make you gain weight. But the sweeteners in them (according to evidence)…

60 pounds is good going, well done. Really. Looking through the papers etc there is confusion as I'm starting to see. There is a mechanism that sweeteners influence insulin levels. There is a mechanism whereby insulin can influence weight gain. The human body is amazing thing and very complicated. What works for some, may…

Aspartame is a common sweetener and whilst may not be in the diet soda you drink - it could well be in others and also used in any number of "diet" products. But I guess as it's not in your diet soda that doesn't make it relevant?
-
And as regards insulin causing weight gain - there is a mechanism and described in the many sources. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17924864 Provides a mechanism for this. This next one if from Mayo clinic and further describes the process: http://www.medscape.org/viewarticle/567888 I have deliberately avoided many of…

Did you read those posts in the 4 minutes it took to post this reply?

I knew this one was going to cause some flamage... Some information to another forum member that I wrote on account they took me to task about this previously because just "knew" that artificial sweeteners were not a problem. This is an interesting paper as it mentions specific sweeteners as increasing insulin levels in…

Yup - agreed - lots of evidence (i.e. real scientific papers) on this. Sweeteners (depending on which ones) do affect insulin levels. The others just keep you used to wanting sweet things (psychological) and make it that much harder... As suggested above - water is best and if you need something in it - a few slices of…

Good for you :) Breakfast certainly sets you up for the day and more than anything - helps you spread your calories through the day. Balance in all things:)

Jackie, good day and welcome... A good place to start is to fill in a little about your self in the profile. This will help you focus on what you want to achieve and more importantly, why. Hopefully those things that caused you to stop are not well behind you and you can push on with your goals. As above, don't give in.…

Leguminous veg (greens like sprouts and cabbage etc) do have a tendency to cause gas. Also, if in the past, you've been eating a lot of processed food and are now moving over to a more natural based diet, then your digestive system will change. The flora and fauna makeup will differ. Drink plenty water and make sure you…

Best way. Will be best money you spend. You only have one knee per leg. They don't replace easy and if you break 'em - they stay busted. Hopefully the medical person will be able to advise you quickly. Good luck and keep us posted.

Water is your friend much more than snacks:) Bananas and boiled eggs also:) I walk a lot (part of 10k steps a day). I do maybe 4km at lunch and in general around 9km a day. In the past I've walked 50km+ in a day with pack on my back. It may just be me but rarely have I needed food during these walks - just water. At the…

I liked my wine and pretty much like you - was having probably a bottle a day. I've also stopped with it. Maybe just one bottle now over the weekend (although as suggested above - abstinence is probably a better way to go). What to replace it with? Green tea. Lemon & Ginger in boiling water (I refuse to call that a tea…

On the subject of fermented foods and gut health - this published on the BBC site today: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-38800977 Rather interesting.

Lots of good points and discussion above... This may be useful for folks to read: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-38800977 From todays BBC:)

Hate to say it but try the doctor. This is probably diet related (not enough fat) but how can you be sure. Go to doctors and ask for advice just to be sure

I do a fair bit of hiking and backpacking. ALbeit in the Netherlands and well - it's not exactly high altitude or too excessive but I have done things like that in the past. One of the nicest foods I've fond for walking is something called Roggebrood. I think in the US it's called Rye or Black Bread? It's a really dense…

ANything with sugar added, anything with artificial sweeteners or anything advertised as Low-Fat/Low-Cal. Perhaps a better question to ask is: "What foods did you start eating?" In that case - a lot more veggies and natural produce.

Good question and thanks for the web site:) I'm in Oslo next week and that salad place is right around the corner from where I'm staying  But - back to an answer... THere are two ways I can think of: 1. If you know the total weight and the proportions of ingredients in the bowl then you can guess a little as to what…

If I use oil or butter to cook with then I add the weight of the product I use. So if I use say a knob of butter for frying some eggs (best way I think  ) then I will put down 15g. If all that ends up in the food or not, I'm not too worried about. Theory says it can't get more so I know I"m safe from that point...…
