  • I'm old and have been lifting for eons. Had some life issues and a bad health scare last year and lost some weight and now I'm serious about getting fit again. Right now I work out six days/week. I do 45 min to an hour on an incline treadmill after each lifting session. Day 1: bench 5 sets, maxing at 155lbs; dumbbell curls…
  • Why was Helen Keller a terrible driver? . . . Because she was a woman. (Non Americans might have to use Google re Helen Keller)
  • The speed limit isn't the speed limit. There's a secret speed limit and it's about 7mph over the posted one. I drive the secret speed limit.
  • Hahaha perfect
  • My son graduates from his surgery residency at the end of June and he's invited us to the formal dinner celebration and I want to be able to shop for a nice dress to wear, so my goal is to be 170 by then. That's 38 pounds in 19 weeks. I'm lifting heavy and doing 45 to 60 minutes of hard cardio six days per week, and…
  • You can pick a number to lose each week but your body will decide. I don't agree that you'll necessarily lose muscle if you drop 2 to 2.5 pounds per week. I lift heavy (alternating days: arms/chest, shoulder/back, legs) and do 45 minutes to an hour of uphill treadmill 6 days/week. I'm on 1300 calories, eat six times/day…
  • Try logging your food here and looking at the nutritional info. Look at it as changing how you fuel your body and I think within a week of appropriate eating you'll feel much better, especially if you do some sort of exercise, even just going for a walk.
  • Hi. I'm 60/female but I can (and just did---I'm at the gym now) bench 155. Have you ever weight trained?
  • I do feel lucky. I healed without a massive abdominal surgery because my doc was willing to let me try another way. I didn't eat anything between March 1 and late May and even though I HATED the whole TPN regimen (and stayed on it an extra month hoping to avoid surgery) it was worth it. Before that I was never sick. You…
  • I appreciate the insights. Fortunately I don't have any insulin issues but I've heard to be prepared for gallstones. I eat 1300 cals/day plus enough to cover exercise, which for me is 500-700 cals/day when I'm on track Are you in Salt Lake County? If you ever need a pancreas doc the one I finally landed is AHmazing.
  • I wasn't a nondrinker but because I "admitted" drinking occasionally they concluded that I was a lush. (My son the doctor says they're taught to multiply your reported consumption by 3 or 4 because everyone lies, but I was honest.) Also I live in Utah, where a large part of the population practices a religion that doesn't…
  • Jodie, thanks for the heads up on different symptoms. Ronjsteele, mine was pretty severe too. My pancreas literally split and became infected. And yes, I was almost bullied about alcohol, which isn't something I ever abused. It could be that I had passed gallstones, but we never had a definitive answer. The closest we came…
  • Are y'all talking about true Olympic weightlifting, which is just snatch and clean & jerk?
  • I'm new. Great thread. Today Do: ~Stick to my eating plan. ~Drink more water. ~Weightlifting: leg press, leg curls, leg extensions, deadlifts. ~Log everything. ~Get eight hours of sleep. Today Don't: ~Touch that box of Valentine Godiva. ~Eat anything coworkers leave on the share table. ~Give up.
  • Talk to your doctor about all the health reasons for removing the excess skin. Call your insurer and make friendly with whoever takes your call. Be polite but clear about the harmful impacts to your health if this skin remains. [My son needs a ridiculously expensive monthly treatment for a year, and after explaining more…
  • Thank you! I'd seen some of that info but not as complete. Very helpful.
  • Twenty years ago I amped up my lifting and reached a weight that was exactly the same as my out of shape friend's. She was a size 14 and I was an 8. I guess I'll have to wait and see. :)
  • BMI seems to be based solely on height and weight. I assume that's why you'd say the upper range makes more sense for a muscular person?
  • Not a silly food or exercise thing, but the dumbest thing I was told was that I would become anorexic if I lost any more weight. That was after slowly losing 30 pounds (eating clean) so I was at 180.
