The two issues of GMOs and world starvation are not related. People aren't starving to death because someone chooses to eat or not eat GMOs. There is no correlation.

I was responding to a prior poster using her terminology. The first sentence is her sentence verbatim. She was saying organic is a fad and that it will fade away. I agree she used the wrong terminology but was being polite.

No, I do understand how funding/research works in academia. I was a Grants Officer with unlimited authority. I oversaw billions in grant money going to academia for R&D. Before that as a college student, I wrote and submitted a grant request for CMU. You have an outsiders perspective, I have an insiders perspective.

Ok, I said that these detox diets tell people to abstain from caffeine, alcohol and fast food...as "toxins" I am asked what could possibly be toxic? So I answer the question with what the detox company would say... i thought it was a dumb question which is why I asked if they were serious.

I don't think I need a source to tell me that an apple has fewer toxins than a bottle of vodka...you might...but that is another story.

A notion that I did NOT espouse in any way. I was asked to list what could possibly be toxic about alcohol, caffeine and fast food. So I did. I never for a second said that we're all laden with toxins. It was all about what these products tell people (suckers) to do whilst taking their products.

Er, no I didn't claim there were any toxins "to be scared of." I said that it's no coincidence that these detox products require users to abstain from toxins such as alcohol, caffeine and fast food so that people think it is the product doing the detoxifying when it fact it is their own body catching up.

Lemurcat...when I said most states do this, I was referring to currently charging any sales tax on soda and candy bars. To me it doesn't matter whether it's a done via a surtax or by not exempting them from tax, it's still a tax currently being paid.

I'm allergic to the bleaching agents...both of flour and of dough. Benzoyl peroxide, calcium peroxide. I lived in US a total of 22yrs...so can still be a tad jealous as I remember seeing IHOPs and hearing how yummy their food is.
